Chapter 15 Wand Pros and Cons
Chole's POV:
Chole thinks she put the wand to use once. Now, I must make sure to warn her about the pros and cons of the wand since over usage could be dangerous. She knows because it was a mistake with another fairy once when she forgot to warn them.
She makes her way over to the back door and slips in through the dog door. She thinks it strange there is one here since she never sees a pet anywhere.
Adrien's POV:
"Who is there?" Adrien asks as Chole trips on the hardwood floor.
"It is me, so chill," Chole remarks.
Adrien sees who it is and frowns. He thinks what brings her here. He does not question her about her presence in his brother's home though.
"Chole, what brings you here?" Marinette asks.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Adrien questions with surprise evident on his face.
Marinette's POV:
Marinette smiles when she sees the fairy in yellow again. She thinks it is been a while since we last spoke.
"Chole, what brings you here?" She asks.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Adrien questions with surprise evident on his face.
"Yes, I mean we are both fairies,"Marinette points out the obvious.
"Adrien, I need to speak to Marinette in private," Chole remarks.
"Whatever you have to say to her, I am sure she is okay with my hearing it as well," Adrien says.
"Adrien, it is alright, you go tidy up the kitchen," She responds.
Marinette watches Adrien stand up and work on cleaning the dishes. She smiles as she thinks about adorable he is with his protective personality and all. She wonders if he has always been this way.
Chole's POV:
"Marinette, I see you have put the wand to use today," She states.
"Yes, but it was an emergency, I assure you," Marinette protests.
"I know and I am proud of you for remembering the rules," Chole replies.
Chole realizes she has Marinette's attention now, so she might as well tell her what she came her to explain all along. She think the thing is how do I tell her? It is not like it is an easy thing to mention such matters. Not when it is Marinette's life on the line as it is as seen with the near miss with the shadows earlier that day.
"The thing is, Marinette, the wand has its perks," Chole mentions.
Chole sees Marinette's eyebrows raise in question to the remark. She laughs, but then goes onto to explain the rest about the item itself.
"The wand is not to be taken lightly. It has what is known as its pros and cons," Chole explains.
Marinette's POV:
"Pros and Cons, why that is the sillest thing, any one has ever said," Marinette remarks.
"Yes, well it is true, so you must be careful!" Chole blurts out.
"I know I must never use it for just anything that is what all fairies are told in fairy school," Marinette answers with a roll of the eyes.
"It is more to it than that child," Chole tells her.
"Child, I am way older than that and you know it," Marinette objects to the comment.
Marinette can tell she might have made the older fairy ticked off with her at the statement with the way she shakes her head in disapproval.
Chole's POV:
"The pros of the wand are the positive qualities of it such as follows: you can use it for protection-which you already know- you can use it for the good of others, and you can use it on occasion to change the style of your hair and outfit," Chole begins to explain.
" The other good things about it is that it can be used to help out it times of crisis. As in to do a memory swipe if something horrid should befall another person or fairy, to fix broken relationships, and so on," Chole explains.
Chole can tell Marinette appears to be listening more now than she was previous to her scolding her.
Chole continues with the explanation, "The cons on the other hand are the negative qualities of it such as follows: To much usage can lead to illness and in some cases even death for the fairy who keeps it. "
" If it falls into the wrong hands it can be given the sort of usage that is to horrid for words, if you do not recharge it then it can explode, it can disingrate over time if improperly handled, and last of all, it can divide people if the fairy or person who has it is impure of heart," Chole reminds her.
Chole can tell all these things are something Marinette either has not heard before or did not think about prior to now. She believes it to be true by the look on the dear girl's face.
Marinette's POV:
"I understand now why you felt a need to share all this with me, and I will be careful with it I promise," Marinette tells Chole.
She sees Chole's tears in her eyes and wonders what could have brought that on anyway. It is not as if she has a reason to worry is there?
"Chole fairy, why are tears in your eyes?" Marinette asks.
"Child, it is because someone dear to us both did not know the things you know now," Chole states sadly.
"What? My cousin, then she did not die from a broken heart like my uncle says did she?" Marinette inquires. She finds it hard to seek the answers to the truth behind this as she knows it must be worse then she initially thought it to be.
"No, her heart was not broken by the one she was in love with at all," Chole responds.
"Then, what my I ask, happened to her?" Marinette blurts out.
"The cousin you speak about was one of my fairies I was given the privilege to give a miraculous and wand too in the past. She was so good about being careful that I forgot to tell her all the pros and cons about her wand," Chole says sadly.
" Then, later when I went to warn her it was to late. She was to far gone to stop the tragedy from her life," Chole goes onto to say.
"I see," Marinette says with tears in her eyes now as well.
Chole's POV:
"I am sorry, Marinette. I know I can not bring her back, but I could not let the same thing happen to you. See, your cousin's death was all due to overusage of the wand. It was on account of the fact she found out the boy she loved was about to propose. She was not to know, but found out by accident." Chole tells her.
" The only trouble was her father. It seems he never did approve of the lad. So, he did all he could to try to separate them. Yet, she sought the love of her life out. She sneaked out to see him anyway," Chole whispers.
" She would put a protection around them everytime to assure no one would disturb them. She did recharge the wand, but over time it begin to dissolve, then one day it was gone forever," Chole states this time around.
"The day the wand ran out was the same day her love proposed. She said yes, but was so ill, she could not survive to see the marriage through. She knew it and so did he. She secretly married him anyway to live out her last days happy. Then, later your uncle blamed everything on both himself, the wand, the other fairies, and the humans," Chole remarks.
"Is this why my uncle did not want me to continue to see Adrien?" Marinette inquires with a sad face.
Chole responds, "Yes, but my dear you need not worry. I believe all will be well with you and him."
She sees the doubtful look Marinette gives her.
Chole states,"Trust me, I know because you still wear the miraculous and the only ones who know your secret are you,me, and the one you hold a strong love for which is how it should be anyway."
Marinette's POV:
"Here, take it with you, for I am can not keep something so powerful," Marinette says as she holds out the wand.
"I am sorry, but that is not how it works," Chole says with a small smile.
"Yes, I forgot, in that case, recharge!" Marinette calls out and with that the wand glows a blue color, and starts to charge up.
Marinette drops it since it gets hot when it recharges.
"Ouch, that hurts!" Marinette yells at her hand receives a small burn mark on it.
Marinette looks at it the wand as it turns green, then gray, and back to its original color. She picks it up and hides it back in her special hiding spot. She figures this way she can ensure it never gets in the wrong hands.
Adrien's POV:
Adrien finishes up with the dishes, then puts some ice on Marinette's hand and gently rubs it over the burn mark. He feels her flitch a bit at his touch so he whispers, "Mari, it is alright it might sting a little, but trust me I know what I am doing."
He removes the ice a few minutes later and sees the mark is gone. He thinks wow it is good as new. He is glad he made the discovery of his healing gift years ago. It is not something he uses often since it tends to freak people out.
Besides if he did how would he keep the fairies from being in danger?
"Mari, I do not know what she told you, but you need not worry. The pillows are gone, but that is no reason to cry," Adrien tells her. He gently rubs her back as he speaks to calm her down.
*Author's note: Will Marinette be safe as Chole believes or will she find herself in danger no matter what she does? What about Adrien?
