Chapter 10 Marinette's Difficult Choice

            Marinette's  POV:

Marinette looks at her uncle in surprise. She can not believe he ask her to do such a thing.   How could he expect her to just forget Adrien?  It is impossible to forget his smile, his kindness to her, and the way his arms felt around her when he hugged her.  She can not just give that all up.

She also can not stop being a fairy since that is who she was meant to be.  She sighs unsure what to say or do right now. She feels as if either choice is hard.

"I -I  can not decide just yet," Marinette tells him.

"Marinette, there is nothing to decide, just hand over the miraculous now," Her uncle remarks.

Marinette refuses to speak to him while he is like this. She puts the earrings back in her ears, then flies out the window in disgust.  She walks the rest of the way back to her house once the wings fold up and go back into hiding mode.  She sobs the entire way.

She unlocks the door, enters the house, and closes the front door. She locks it back before she goes to the sofa and places her head down on it.  She can not stop the sorrow that flows through her mind and heart at the decision she is forced to make.

    Marinette's Uncle's  POV:

He stands there in shock that his niece should just walk off like this.  He can not believe she did not hand over the earrings.    It almost as if she has the same stubbornness as his daughter who passed away.  He considers his son dead to him because he has not heard anything from his son in years since the boy got married and he and his wife had children of their own.  This is why he claims Marinette as his sole family left.

He never told Marinette the truth about her boy cousin.  It is not like she needs to know.  What good what it do since the lad practically turned his back on the family anyway?   It is not like he knows how to contact him or where to find him.

He thought for sure Marinette would understand.  It seems he was mistaken about her.   Ugh, what was with his misreading his own relatives least of all the girls?

"Marinette, it is for your good," He says more to himself now that she went back to her home.

"I  just want what is best for you," He remarks.

The grief-stricken man breaks down as it dawns on him he might have ruined things between himself and Marinette as he did with his daughter years ago.   He never knew she would react this way.  He only wants to keep her safe.

    Adrien's  POV:

Adrien has no idea what took place since the time Marinette went to speak to her uncle. He only knows that he hopes things went well for her.  He sighs as he thinks about her.  He looks at his ring and sees it still glows the same colors as before red and some other shade that is hard to make out.

He wishes he could find a way to make things work for him and her.  How?  He practically knows nothing about her except she is kind, beautiful, and has an uncle. Aside from this and her cousin's death, he knows nothing.  He wonders what Chole, the fairy guardian could have meant.

Is it possible he has not met all the fairies yet?  If so, then why can not he sense the presence of them except for the one who gave him his ring in the first place?  Why does he seem so drawn to Marinette when she just appears out of nowhere?

"Luka, have you ever been in love?"  Adrien longs to ask his older brother.  Only he does not because Luka is not home until late and he thinks Adrien is asleep. Truth be told Adrien did sleep for a few hours but woke up Marinette on his mind.

   Back to Marinette...

     Marinette's POV:

Marinette looks up from her sofa and sees her left hand glows. She screams since this is the first time she has seen such a thing.  She did not know she had powers until now.

She stands up and holds her left hand towards the back living room wall. She sees a circle glow up on the wall.  Inside the circle is a heart and the words,  "Be true to your heart."

Marinette blushes as she understands clearly what this means.  The thing is how can she be true to her heart.  She is not even sure of anything.  She is afraid to lose Adrien, but also afraid to show him her wings or powers now that she knows she has them.

She closes her eyes and thinks of something sweet to eat. She opens them and sees a box in her hand.

"Whoa, how did I do this?" She asks herself.

She opens the box and sees a few pieces of chocolate. She eats them, then throws the box away. She tests out her newfound powers on the furniture and the sofa glows bright blue.  She watches in amazement as it flips over and changes colors.

"Cool, now anytime I want to switch colors I can use my a flick of my hand," Marinette states.

      Chole's POV:
Chole rushes to Marinette's place when she realizes there is something important she has not told her. She only hopes she is not too late. She knocks on the door.

"Marinette let me inside, it is me, Chole," She says.

Marinette hides one hand behind her back as she answers the door with the other hand.   "Yes?"  Marinette asks.

"Let me in now," Chole demands.

Marinette shrugs her shoulders but the other girl in yellow enter her home. She smiles as she says,  "It is not much, but it is mine. Please, have a seat."

"Thanks, Marinette, but I came here to discuss something urgent with you,"  Chole remarks.

"Urgent, what is it?"  Marinette asks.

"Show me your hands, girl," Chole tells her.

Marinette shows them to which Chole gasps.  "Oh, dear me, this is horrible," Chole says.

"Horrible, what do you mean?"  Marinette asks.

  Marinette's POV:

Marinette thinks I invite this familiar girl inside my home. She asks the weirdest thing of me, but I still do it. She tells me it is horrible.  Whatever could she mean anyway?

"Horrible, what do you mean?"  Marinette asks.

"Well, one of your hands is blue and the other purple," Chole remarks.

"Yes, I can see that so," Marinette blurts out.

"So, it means if you do not figure out what to do soon something will happen to you,"  Chole answers.

Marinette looks at her visitor as if she has lost her mind.  She thinks who is she to tell me something will happen based upon my indecision.  Like what could happen anyway?

"I can see you do not understand," Chole says kindly.

"Yes, you could say as much,"  Marinette responds.

      Chole's  POV:

"It means if you do not either remove the earrings to hand them to your uncle or go to Adrien soon then you will turn into ice,"  Chole says.

"This has only taken place once before that I am aware of and it nearly broke the person,"  She says.

"Ice,  but how can I turn to ice?"  Marinette asks.

"It is because you love so much and have so much to give that the difficult choice you are given makes your heart harden. You must choose soon, or you will be ice.  First, it will be your heart that turns ice-cold, then the rest of you,"  Chole tells her.

"That is just it, how can I betray my uncle when he is the only family I have left?  Yet, I c-can not leave Adrien," Marinette says as her arms begin to glow the same colors as her hands.

"Oh, dear me, child, it is happening already, but not in the way I believe it to take place," Chole says in sheer terror.

"What do you mean?" Marinette asks as her lips turn bluish-purple, and she feels cold.

"I have no time to lose, I must get you to him," Chole says.

       Marinette's  POV:

Marinette's eyes close as she feels as if she is already completely frozen.

Chole grabs her up to take her to safety. She knows it will break the young fairy, but it is the only thing she can do. She flies fast towards the village. She bursts through the door though it might seem risky to some, and towards the room of the only one who can save Marinette.

She lays her on the floor and says,  "Quick Adrien, kiss her before it is too late!"

Marinette's eyes open as Chole flies away into the night.  She feels weak, cold, and frightened.

"Mari, what happened to you?" Adrien asks in fear.

           "A-Adrien, I-I am s-sorry,"  Marinette mutters.

"I am sorry, I could not decide in enough time," Marinette blurts out weakly.

  Adrien's  POV:

Adrien hears Marinette's voice crack and sees her chin turn the same color as her hands, arms, and lips which are all strange colors now.  He climbs off his bed, walks over to her, bends down, and says,  "Do not go, I -I..."

He holds her in his arms as the tears fall down his cheeks to kiss her lips. He never thought his kiss would be this way.  He close by with her almost turned into ice.  He closes his eyes as he feels her become colder than she was at first.

"Mari, please do not freeze, I  need you," Adrien pleads with her.

Adrien kisses her again and touches her ears to try to stop the freezing process.  He feels her ears which started to become ice thaw out at his touch. He sees the earrings and pulls away.

"Oh, my goodness, you are.."  Adrien faints.

   Marinette's  POV:

Marinette feels her body grow warm and looks up in surprise. She sees Adrien is passed out. She thinks what happened to him?  She examines her arms and hands.  The glowing stopped and everything is normal.

"How?  How can this be?"  Marinette asks.

She reaches over and places her hands on Adrien's face.

"I  made my decision and it is true and sure," Marinette says.

"Be true to the heart,"  Marinette sings.

Marinette stops the singing for a moment and stares into his eyes. She kisses him slowly on the mouth. She feels him come too and does not let him go.

She pulls away after he kisses her in return.

"A-Adrien, I can not do what he wants," Marinette tells him.

   Adrien's  POV:

Adrien looks at her in surprise glad she is alive.  He is still in shock at what he believes to be true.

      "He, who?" Adrien asks.

"My uncle, he says I have to give him the earrings to be safe, but it is not true," Marinette states.

"Mari, do not disobey him because of me,"  Adrien says sadly.

"He is your family and..." Adrien starts to say when he feels warm lips brush against his once more.

"Adrien, I can not leave you," Marinette confesses.

Adrien can not believe his ears Marinette loves him.  He smiles and remarks, "Marinette, I love you."

"I know and I love you," Marinette confesses.

    Marinette's POV:

"I love you, Adrien," Marinette says.

"I will never leave you," She remarks.

Marinette has no plans to ever let her uncle take the miraculous. She can not when it brought her love. She feels without it she will die. She brushes a few tears away from Adrien's eyes, then her own eyes.

"I am not who you think though," Marinette speaks softly now.

Adrien closes the door and watches as she removes the jewelry and his eyes widen. It is then, he knows the stories are true there is a snow fairy, and she right in the room with him.

"I know it is too much, but I just had to tell you," Marinette remarks.

  Adrien's  POV:

Adrien locks the door so no one else will see anything that they are not supposed to see. He smiles, then removes his ring.  He is glad that for once he can show someone the real him without fear.

Marinette's eyes widen now as she takes it all in. She can not believe it. Adrien is a fairy.

"Adrien, you are fairy too?"  Marinette says in surprise.

Adrien laughs, "Yes, I have been since I was born."

Adrien hugs Marinette in relief that they are both fairies. This means they can be together after all. He kisses her and both their wings glow.

Then, he slips the ring back on when he hears a knock at the door.  Marinette puts the earrings back in at the same time.

        Marinette hides under the bed...
