Chapter 16 (Finale)

Re-cap:

I smiled softly. Roman wrapped his arms around me and nuzzled my cheek, making me blush.

We looked at each other. And we kissed again. Somehow, it gets better every time.

~Virgil's PoV~

It's been a week, it was now the last day of camp. I was honestly really sad. Since I was moving in with Thomas, and even if I wasn't, I won't be able to see Roman until next summer. That made me really sad.

It was noon, and since it was the last day, we got to do whatever we wanted. I haven't seen Roman at all today. Which was, really disheartening.

Maybe he's thinking about breaking up? Or avoiding me?

I shook those thoughts out of my head and walked over to Thomas' office, I wanted to talk a little bit.

I knocked on the door and waited, a little.

"Come in!" I heard. I opened the door and walked in, "Oh, good morning Virgil! Are you done packing up all your stuff?" Thomas asked. I nodded and sat down in one of the chairs in his office, looking at my feet. "Virgil, is something wrong?"

"No! Well, ye- I mean, no, maybe?" I stuttered, not really knowing what I wanted to say. Should I tell Thomas about Roman and me? He didn't really know... At the same time, I don't want Roman getting into trouble. Should I make something up? Or tell the truth? Ugh!

Thomas put a hand on my shoulder, "It's okay, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to," he said softly, almost father-like. At least, what I would assume is father-like, my dad hardly talked to me at all before mom's death, and after that, his voice was full of grief.

I sighed, "I just, I don't know how I'll handle going back to the house or go to his-"  I paused, I knew the word I was about to say next would come out broken and wavery. No matter how hard I wanted to prevent it, it would come out weak.

"His funeral?" Thomas asked softly, sitting down next to me. I felt tears in my eyes and nodded, looking at my shoes once more. We sat in silence after that, it wasn't awkward, actually, rather comfortable.

"Hey, Thomas? What will it be like living with you?" I asked quietly. I almost thought he didn't hear me.

"Well, you'll meet my other adopted son, who's a year younger than you. I think you two will get along. I don't have a husband, if you're wondering, though I do have a lot of good friends that you'll see a lot," I could tell he was smiling, both at the mention of his son and friends and looking up at his face only confirmed this. I smiled a little bit, only a little.

"This will be the first time since I was five spending a holiday with more than just my mom and dad then?" I asked, slightly louder than the previous question. Thomas grinned and nodded.

"Yea! My friends Joan, Talyn, Valarie, and Terence (A/N: :( everyone pay your respects to Terence, I'm gonna miss him) are quite the common figures,"

I nodded thoughtfully and got up, "I'll be going now," I said.

"Okay! Have fun!" he yelled after me as I shut the door. I felt a little bit better, but there was a nagging voice in my head, reminding me of Roman. I shook my head and headed over to the cabin.

~Time Skip~

It was 6 o'clock in the afternoon now, and I still haven't seen Roman. Or Logan, or Patton, or the girls, no one really. I was really sad. I heard knocking at the door and someone opening the door.

'H-Hello?" a timid voice called out, Evan.

"I'm here," I called from on the loft (and Roman's bed) I got up and climbed down the ladder.

"H-Have y-you s-s-seen the others?" he asked timidly. So they're doing this to him too? I shook my head. "D-Do you wanna c-c-c-come with me to f-find them?" he asked again. I smiled.

"Sure, let's go,"

And go we did, we went through all the cabins, no one. Not even Teagan J.

Eventually, Evan and I started walking over to the place where we usually held our bonfires. Maybe we didn't get a memo that there would be a bonfire? As we stepped onto the sight, a pair of hands obstructed my vision. I yelped and this person chuckled. Roman.

"Roman! Where have you been?!" I asked, and I couldn't help the slight anger in my voice.

"I promise it'll all make sense soon, just put this on," he said, putting his hands away and giving me a blindfold. I looked at him suspiciously but tied it around my eyes anyways. He wasted no time in picking me up, I heard a squeal beside me and knew Evan was getting picked up by someone too, probably Connor.

Roman carried me for a little while until he came to a slow stop. He set me down gently and stopped my hands from taking off the blindfold.

"Let me do it please," he said, I nodded and put my hands down. I felt his hands against my hair, resting just over the blindfold, After a few seconds, I felt him untying the knot. He took the blindfold away.

"SURPRISE!!" everyone was there. Patton, Logan, Rich, Jake, Jeremy, Michael, the girls, everyone. We were on the beach. But it was different.

For starters, there were blankets thrown all over it, with little picknick baskets. There was a make-shift bonfire in front of the dock, which looked very hard to make. Along the dock there were candles, and on the dock were little circular tables with makeshift table covers made out of thin blankets. On the tables, there were also candles. In the water, there were a few beach balls and other toys. But the most brilliant thing of all was the sunset, there were clouds in the sky, which reflected an iridescent pink underbelly to the much darker blue cloud above. The water was streaked magnificently with all sorts of colors, shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, lilac, purple, blue. Everything was so beautiful.

I put my hands over my mouth, eyes tearing up. It was so beautiful. Roman picked me up bridal style again and moved my hands away from my mouth, kissing me. A lot of 'awes' were heard, and a very loud 'get some!' from Pepper.

By now tears were streaming down my face. Roman pulled away, but I grabbed his face and smashed our lips together once more. I could feel Roman's surprise, but I didn't care.

We pulled away, only to be met with a giant group hug. I laughed and wiped the tears from my eyes when we all pulled away from the hug (which was after around ten minutes) I looked at Evan, why smiled sheepishly.

"T-They told me to s-set you u-up,"

I grinned and hugged him, he seemed surprised but hugged back. When we pulled away Connor pulled Evan towards him and growled at me. I put my hands up in mock surrender and walked away backwards, bumping right into Roman and into his arms.

I looked up at him, "Is this why I haven't seen anyone all day?"

"Yea, but let's not dwell on that now and party!" he grinned, running off, I laughed and followed him.

We all had a lot of fun. There was food, music, dancing, volleyball, swimming, basically everything you could ever think of!

Roman and I also sat on the dock, right where we confessed and kissed for the first time. I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder. He responded by wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I looked up at him and grinned, he grinned back.

I started this summer, thinking it was going to be a nightmare, but it turned out to be a dream.
