Chapter 1
~Virgil's PoV~
Beep. Beep. Bee-
I slammed my hand down on my alarm clock with a groan. Today my father was driving me to a summer camp. I really don't wanna go, I would much rather stay inside all summer, watching conspiracy theories and listening to music. But dad says that "I can't stay inside all summer" and, "I need to get out more", so to make sure I do, he's sending me to a summer camp. Insert sarcastic 'yay' here.
"Virgil! Come down here, we have to leave!" my dad yelled from downstairs. I scowled and grabbed my phone and headphones. I trudged downstairs slowly, my dad shoved a warm bagel into my hand and started walking out the door.
"I already packed your stuff into the car, you can eat in the car, c'mon" he called over his shoulder, getting into the car. I followed and sat in the back. I propped the pillow dad put in the back against the window and rested against it, draping a blanket over myself.
My dad and I weren't always like this, before my mom died we barely tolerated each other. It's strange that her death didn't drive us even more apart, instead, it drew us together. She had only died a few months ago. My mom had dark brown hair, which I had gotten from her, though I had dyed the top of it a dark purple. She had a slightly chubby frame and had the gentlest green eyes. She also had freckles, I got them too, but you can't see them unless you look really closely. I got my brown eyes from my father. I missed mom so much. She would always give me a hug when I went to school and when I came back. Whenever I came back dinner would be ready, not takeout, home cooked dinner. I missed her so much...
I shook off the thoughts of my late mother and pulled out the pamphlet that had all the information about the camp.
Camp Sanders
Camp Sanders has a place for everyone! Whether you like sports, chess, arts and crafts, or music, Camp Sanders has an activity for you!
Huh okay, I doubt they have a 'stay inside and watch youtube all day' activity though...
Activities
Activities include:
Swimming
Soccer
Trivia
Painting
Guess the lyrics
And many, many more!
'Guess the lyrics' sounds okay I guess...
Rules
1. No bullying or teasing allowed, regardless of race, sex, gender identity, or sexuality
2. You must be in your cabin by curfew
So... not that many rules, okay. But wow, my dad is practically signing me up for a Pride Camp. Maybe coming out wasn't so bad...
I read about the founder, Thomas Sanders, he created the camp to make everyone feel accepted. He's apparently gay himself, and really good at working through issues. He sounds pretty nice.
I put on my headphones and looked out the window, looking at the scenery passing by with The Greatest Showman soundtrack playing in the background.
~Time Skip~
The car slowed to a stop, we had arrived at the camp. A woman with dark skin and darker hair in a bun ran down as I stepped out of the car and got my stuff together. She talked to my dad a bit.
"Hey there!" she grinned, turning to talk to me, "I'm Jakie Hopin! Here, fill out this real quick," she said, handing me a paper. I looked at it.
Name:
Preferred Pronouns:
Sexuality:
Other:
I quickly filled it out, 'Virgil Ansia', 'He/Him/His', 'Gay'. I didn't fill out 'Other'. I handed the paper back to Jackie, she read it and smiled.
"Nice to have you on board, Virgil!" she said with a soft smile, then she turned to my dad, "We'll take good care of him, sir," she promised, putting the paper I gave her in a file. She started walking away and I started to follow her.
"I love you, son" my dad called, I rolled my eyes.
"Love ya too, dad!" I called over my shoulder.
I walked after Jackie as she dug around through the file, pulling out a sheet of paper and handing it to me.
"Those are your cabin arrangments," she hummed.
Cabin #: 19
Cabin mates: Roman Prince, Logan Cogn, Patton Paterson
Huh, they sound interesting- "Madison! Come here for a sec, will ya?" Jackie suddenly called to someone behind me. I jumped up slightly at the sudden noise and looked behind me. A girl who looked a lot like Jackie was jogging up, she had very floofy hair in two pigtails. She reached us and smiled at me before looking at Jackie.
"Yea? This better be important, 19's hosting a little 'get together' and I don't wanna miss it," she muttered to Jackie. Jackie simply smiled, a slightly annoyed look in her eyes. Wait, did she say 19? As in, Cabin 19? I don't do well in social situations, and now my cabin mates were hosting a party?
I took deep breaths and tried my hardest to look like I was completely unaffected.
"Well, Virgil here is going to be their new cabin mate, so you might as well take him there," Jackie reasoned. The girl's attitude changed, she looked at me and smiled.
"So you're the infamous lucky one who's rooming with 19 eh? Nice to meet you! I'm Madison, but call me Maddy, follow me," she grinned, turning heel and walking away, I followed her. She impatiently started up a conversation. "So Virgil, Virge, can I call you Virge?" she asked.
"Yea, sure," I shrugged.
Maddy grinned, "Okay, well then. Let me tell you about your cabin mates, let's see. Roman has a very big personality and is a theater kid. Logan is super smart but he's really good at roasting. Patton is the embodiment of sunshine, and even though he says that he's the dad friend we have all adopted him as our son and put him under our protection, so no one messes with him, even the Asshole Club," she rambled on
" 'Asshole Club'?" I asked, starting to get worried. Maddy nodded.
"Yea lemme tell you about them. There's George King the third, he likes to be called King George, but we call him K.G. he's the leader of the group. Charles Lee is basically K.G.'s right-hand man. There's James Reynolds, literally speaks in grunts. Then there's Ram Sweeny and Kurt Kelly, the muscles of the group, total dumbasses, and totally gay for each other even though they won't admit it" Maddy smirked as she ended the last sentence, "They basically are just assholes to everyone, but stick with us and they won't give you as much trouble," she smiled sweetly.
I nodded at her, smiling softly. I didn't like to show emotion, not at all, but Maddy was just so laid back and easy to get along to.
We suddenly stopped in front of a cabin, it looked pretty nice from the outside, for a cabin. Maddy knocked on the door.
The door opened to reveal a boy my age in a blue shirt and a gray hoodie tied around his neck. He grinned when he saw Maddy. "Hey Maddy!" he exclaimed, then he looked at me, and his grin became wider, which I didn't even think was possible. "Who's this?" he asked.
Maddy answered for me, thank god, "This is Virgil, he is your fourth cabin mate," she said, Patton smiled and pulled me inside. I looked around, it had a very homey feel. The main room had a couch, a T.V. with a stand, and a small table that could fit four people. I could see the kitchen from here, it was a pretty standard kitchen, stove, fridge, sink, cabinets, microwave, etc. There were also two doors leading away from the kitchen, one to the left, and one straight forward.
There was also a loft with a ladder coming down from it. "My friend Logan and I will be sleeping in that room," he said, pointing to the door straight across the kitchen, "That's the bathroom," he said, pointing to the left of the kitchen, "And you and Roman will be sleeping on the loft. Go unpack your things, call me when you're done- I'm Patton by the way," he grinned. I nodded and climbed up the loft.
When I got up there, there were two beds, one in the corner of the loft and the other close to the ladder. I picked the bed in the corner and put my purple striped pillow down, also laying across the bed my black fuzzy blanket. I then put all my clothes into the dresser closest to my bed, there was another one for the 'Roman' guy.
"Hey there..." a voice said from behind me just as I finished unpacking, I jumped up slightly and turned around to be met with a chest. I looked up to see a guy with a perfect jawline and the top of his light brown hair died a purple a few shades lighter than mine.
"Hello," I replied, no emotion present in my voice. I stepped back a bit, as he was way to close for comfort.
"I'm Roman, I'm guessing you're Emo Nightmare?" he said, voice full of snark. I rolled my eyes.
"It's Virgil, Romano,"
He feigned being insulted, turning around swiftly, I rolled my eyes and sat on my bad, plugging in my headphones.
This was going to be an interesting summer.
~Author's Note~
Heyo! So this is my second Prinxiety book! I hope you'll enjoy this one!
I gotta say, writing a human Prinxiety au is much easier than a normal one. Maybe that's just me but eh.
So I have a few things planned already, like, major plot things, but if you guys have any suggestions, please comment! Because I need some filler and fluff ideas, ya know?
ALSO credit to @Ash_Ibarra for giving me Virgil's last name! Thank you!
