A/N: Oops! Had to go back and fix something I screwed up. I called Allie's brother and the cute waiter both David. The cute waitress is now James. Sorry about that!

"I'm moving. My dad lost his job in the cuts at Wod and he did everything he possibly could to get a job here but it's not possible. There's just nothing. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to scare you until I knew we had to move. St. Louis. We're moving to St. Louis." I stared at her in shock. This can't be happening, I thought. But it was.

Once I had my voice again, I asked the first question that came to my mind, "how soon?"

"A few weeks after the end of the school year."

"Oh," I said hoarsely. I felt like crying but the tears wouldn't come. I felt like I was in shock. I finally processed that Maya had left and watched her walk into the bathroom. It was then I thought to look over to James to see if he'd heard. By his expression I knew he had.

I gestured for him to come over. "You should tell her. Not now though," I added quickly. He blushed.

"What's the point? She'll be gone in less than a month."

I gave him a sad smile. "Yeah, I know, but you never know what might happen. She hasn't told me outright she likes you but when I bring you up she blushes. There's no harm in trying." I saw Maya walk out of the bathroom and I tilted my head in her direction and he left.

Maya sat back down a moment later and I looked at her. She's so beautiful even now after she's been crying, I thought. Why can't she see it? "I don't know what to say Maya. I hate to make light of something serious, but I'm determined to make you smile so I'll say it anyways. I'll just kidnap you until college. That'll be perfect."

She smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. I stood up and moved over to her side of the table and gave her a hug. She started crying again and then I lost it. We stayed like that for a long time. Us clinging to each other like its the last time we'd see each other until we reached heaven.

And then my cellphone rang and ruined it. I picked it up and gave a shaky, "Hello?"

"Allie?" my mom said in a frazzled voice. "I need you to come home right now. Grandma is in the hospital and I can't find anyone to watch David."

"Great Grandma Zeet?" I inwardly panicked for a moment that she was going to say it wasn't.

"Yes. She fell again and my mom is out of town. I have to go."

"Ok. See you in ten." I look at Maya and the look on her face breaks my heart. "I have to go. I'm so sorry." I gave her one last hug and she gave me a shaky smile.

"It's ok," she said but looking in her eyes I know it's not. I shot James a look. He nodded almost imperceptibly and headed over there. Time to go home and babysit. I made a face as I walk away.

I got into the car and turned the key. Nothing. I sighed and tried again because this car is old and it started. I pulled out of the parking lot and that's the last thing I remember.
