Chapter 56
WARNING: Really terrible writing, domestic abuse
Logan picked at the webbing in between his fingers. He'd never felt this isolated before, not even when he'd first been captured. "Patton, I really am sorry." He said. "I know you're not going to believe me. But I am."
Patton didn't say anything.
"Why are you ignoring me?" Logan asked. "I've apologised. I thought that's what you did if you did something amiss and recognised that." Patton didn't say anything else and Logan looked away, tracing one of his markings. "I would've thought you would've been someone to forgive. You were when I knew you before."
"You don't need to guilt trip me to-"
"I wasn't guilt tripping you." Logan said sharply. "And I'd appreciate it if you stopped accusing me of things I am not." Patton didn't say anything. "You never were good at giving the cold shoulder." Logan muttered.
"You never were good at accepting that someone didn't want to talk to you." Patton said. Logan shot him a side-long glance. He sighed.
"Perhaps I was too hopeful to think that you hadn't changed." He turned away from Patton. "Humans always change." He muttered.
There wasn't any noise in the brig for a while apart from the slow scratch of Patton's pencil. After a while, that stopped too.
"Logan, I'm sorry." Patton said quietly. "I treated you horribly and I'm really sorry."
"It's understandable." Logan said. "You were angry and upset and I was the only creature you could take your anger out on. Also, I'm the only one on this ship close to Remus. It makes sense but it's not right."
"I know. I'm sorry. Like, really, really sorry." He sounded sincere and Logan couldn't decipher any other layers of emotion in his voice that might suggest he was being false.
"Promise?" Logan asked quietly. He didn't turn around to look back at Patton but he guessed he was nodding.
"Promise."
"Hey, Patton!" Patton looked up and squealed. He scrambled up and hugged Logan tightly.
"You got out!" Patton said excitedly. He pulled back and his face fell. "Kiddo, what happened to your face?"
Logan's hand went to his cheek, where a little bruise was forming. "Uh, nothing. I fell over, that's all." Patton tilted his head and looked at Logan like he didn't believe him.
"Promise?" He asked. Logan nodded.
"Promise." He said quickly. Patton narrowed his eyes a little before he was apparently satisfied with Logan's lie and grinned.
"Good." Logan breathed a silent sigh of relief. "Because if anyone hurt you, I'd have to get Emile on their case."
"Why?" Logan didn't like the idea of Patton's older brother against his dad.
"Because they hurt someone I love."
Logan took a half-step back. "What?"
"Oh, Kiddo, sorry, did I make you uncomfortable?" Logan opened his mouth before shaking his head. He'd never confronted anyone about his own personal feelings, he wasn't going to start now. Not with his best friend. Best just to push those feelings down, keep them safe and hidden.
"You sure?" Logan nodded. Patton smiled in relief. "Okay, good. C'mon, we can go splashing about in the sea!"
It was better for everyone that way.
Holy shit this is a terrible chapter. I can't fucking write. I'm sorry.
Bye,
Blaize
