Chapter 35

WARNING: Slight sexism but it gets shut down pretty quickly

"Hey Kiddo." Patton said, poking his head up through a trap door.

Logan didn't say anything as Paton managed to pull himself up through the trapdoor. "How did you get from there to there?"

"Oh, it's actually really cool." Patton said, leaning against the wall of the brig. "Rose modified this ship when our crew got a lot bigger and she added another level. So this used to actually be the deck but it's just the holding cells now. And we all live in the bottom level of the ship and there's trapdoors up to here just in case there's like a mutiny or something." Patton reeled all this off as if it was common knowledge.

"Wow." Patton nodded, grinning.

"Yeah. That's one of the reasons we all trust Captain Rose so much. There's nothing she can't do."

"Huh. That's odd." Logan said.

"What's odd?"

"Well, from my research and what I can remember from..." He trailed off. "I've always thought that human women are weaker than men but I suppose that's not the case, is it?"

Patton shook his head. "It's not the case. And you really shouldn't go around saying stuff like that, Kiddo. People'll think you're sexist.

"Sexist?" Logan repeated.

"When you oppress one group of people because of their biological sex." Patton explained. Logan nodded a little in understanding.

Logan looked up as another gust of wind screamed and howled around the ship.

"I hope Rose is alright." Patton muttered.

"You mean she's out there?" Logan asked.

"Yeah. I know it's not a good idea on her part but-"

"It's really not. She could get seriously hurt. Oh God, I hope he's not too angry."

"He?" Patton asked.

"Roman. Remus' brother and Crown Prince. Royalty are descended from Poseidon and can control the seas and skies to some extent." Logan pushed his glasses up his nose. "Though by the severity of the storm itself, I'm guessing either Remus has finally learned how to harness his powers or Roman's really angry."

"Does Roman usually get angry?" Logan shook his head.

"Not usually. But he can. And I can tell you without much inference power that realising he's going to lose his brother is enough to make him angry." Logan looked up at the ceiling of the brig. "He always was one for flare." He mumbled.

"What sorry?"

"Roman was always one for flare." Logan explained. "All the wind howling around the ship. That's how I can tell it's not just a normal storm."

Patton bit the inside of his lip. "Rose'll be alright, right?"

As if an answer, another gust of wind screeched around the ship, seeping through the cracks in the planks. The rain sounded like it had turn to little bullets in the air.

Logan didn't answer.

"Logan?" He looked at Patton. "Rose'll be alright, won't she?"

Logan hesitated before answering. "If she's as good a captain as you say, I think she'll be okay. But the storm will need to let up some time if you want to be absolutely sure of her safety."

Patton bit the inside of his cheek, knotting his hands together. "Oh cheese and crackers." He muttered.

I don't know what this is but I hate it and I don't know why.
Bye,
Blaize
