Chapter 24

Logan knocked on the glass a little, making Patton jump.

"Are you alright, Patton?"

"Hm? Oh, yeah, I'm fine." Patton smiled at Logan but it wasn't a normal Patton smile.

"What's wrong?"

Patton laughed a little. "Nothing gets past you, huh?"

"On the contrary, a lot of things get past me. Like very fast fish." Patton giggled. "Oh, you mean- as a metaphor, I see." Logan said quickly. "Um, I suppose I have a sharp mind, yes. Anyway, what's up? You seem sad."

"What's up?" Patton repeated. He grinned mischievously. "The sky." Patton giggled into his hands.

"And you say I am the one who takes things too literally." Patton giggled again, grinning at Logan. "Puns aside, I really do want to know what's wrong, Patton. You don't have to tell me, of course, but I want to help."

Patton shrugged. "How are you going to do that?" He asked.

Logan opened his mouth but nothing he could say sprang to mind. "I don't know." He said eventually. "But I remember Remus' therapist once said that a problem share is a problem halved so," Logan shrugged, "maybe talking to me would take some of the burden off your shoulders?" Patton wasn't really listening and was smiling sadly at the ground. "Patton? Are you okay?"

"Hm? Oh, sorry. Um, just got lost in thought." He smiled a little. "You know, my brother used to say something like that. 'A problem shared is a problem halved'. Of course, that was before," Patton looked at Logan and something seemed to shy away in his face, "nevermind."

Logan tilted his head at Patton but didn't press the subject.

"I, um, talked to Remus earlier today." Patton said after a while. "Is he... always like that?"

"Well, depends on what you mean." Logan straightened his glasses. "If you mean energetic, over-excited, slightly mad and sometimes rather funny, then yes. He is always like that."

Patton shook his head slightly.

"No?" Logan asked. "Then how was he?"

"He was mean." Patton said simply. "Mean and blunt and just... sad more than anything."

"Sad?" Logan repeated, confused. Then, something dawned on his face and melted away some of the confusion. "Oh no. Oh no, this is bad."

"What's wrong?"

"I need to see him." Logan said, not answering the question. "I need to see him as soon as I can."

"You know that's not going to be allowed, Kiddo."

"But it's important."

"How?"

"He- um, it's complicated." Logan said, suddenly changing tact.

"Wh- Kiddo, you can't just demand something against the rules and then not give a reason."

"He could be dangerous."

"So could you." Patton said, closing his sketchbook. "You have to at least give me a reason, Kiddo."

"I can't."

"Why not?" The question was accusing, it seemed more hurt than anything.

Logan bit his lip. "I can't give you an exact reason," he said slowly, "but Remus could be dangerous. More dangerous than he already is."

"Kiddo, you're not making any sense."

"You said you know things about mermaid's right?" Logan snapped. "Then you just have to trust me when I say that I am not lying and that if you do not help me, someone is in real danger."

"What? Who?"

"I don't know." Logan confessed. He met Patton's gaze. "But I think that whoever they are, they might die."

I don't know what this is so just... here *dumps a half-formed, half-baked plot point in front of you* Um, enjoy.
Bye,
Blaize
