The winter break ended two weeks ago, Remus and Ava told Athena about the promise ring. Ava' life was finally looking up until that morning.

It was a Tuesday morning when the event happened, that caused Ava unimaginable pain. In the afternoon, she was hiding away in the Mauraders dorm with Remus on his bed, sobbing into his chest. Remus was up in his dorm with Ava for over three hours before she finally fell asleep.

Remus couldn't imagine what she was going through, he abandoned the rest of his homework and cuddled Ava as she slept.

Ava was walking along the edge of the lake alone because Remus was in class. She, was just nearing the area Ava and her mother usually meets, but something was off, Athena wasn't at the edge of the lake where her daughter usually meets her.

Ava waited for a few minutes before she grew worried, she decided that she would try the house. Ava went to the house in hopes of finding her mum but was unsuccessful, she was on her way back up to the surface when she finally saw her, but instead of swimming, she was just floating.

Ava swam over and grabbed her mum and went up to the surface when she broke the surface of the water she knew something wasn't right. Her mother was limp and cold to the touch. When Ava got to the edge of the lake and was able to turn her mum, she noticed three things. One she had a big gash that went nearly through her stomach, two she wasn't breathing and three her eyes were glassed over, and she was staring blankly at her.

That's when the tears started to flow down Ava' cheeks, that when she knew her mother was dead. The woman who cared for her was gone.

Ava was sitting hugging her mother for hours before Remus, James, Sirius and Lily (they befriended Peter and he got moved to Slytherin) came outside when he saw her he dropped his bag and started to run from confused friends. They didn't realise what he was doing until they saw Ava curled over her mother's dead body.

It took Remus a while before he could pry Ava from her mum's body, but eventually, she gave up and just let him. While Remus did this, Sirius ran up to Dumbledore to tell him about the body, by the time Sirius arrived back at the lake Ava was dried off and sobbing into Remus' chest.

Athena' body was re-located, and Ava was promised a funeral for her mum, but it still didn't take the pain away, her mum was dead, the only family member she had left, and the worst thing was they couldn't find out who killed her.

Ava was asleep for two hours before she woke up the boy's dorm, with three snoring boys occupying three of the four beds. Ava couldn't help the few tears that slipped down her cheeks as she wriggled out of Remus' grip and walked over to the window, where she could see the full moon. The full moon was, her mum's favourite moon phase, it was like this when her mother gave Ava her ring.

She remembered it like it was yesterday when in reality it was years ago.

Ava was seven years old when her mother finally agreed to take her up to the surface to see the full moon. They were there for hours before Athena hugged her daughter, she then took off her mother's ring and made it into a necklace (because Ava' fingers would be too small, but now she wears it like a ring) and gave it to Ava.

When she gave it to her, she whispered: "This was my mother's ring, she gave it to me when I was your age, and I haven't taken it off since, but now it's your turn to wear it" as she put the necklace over Ava' head.

"With the necklace, my mother also said that if you ever are alone in the world, you can rely on the moon to be there for you, never forget that". Athena said before they both dove under the water and swam home.

Ava was brought back to reality when a hand touched her shoulder, she turned her head slightly, to see James standing beside her.

"How are you?" James asked as he sat beside Ava and brought her into a hug.

"As good as I can be," Ava replied, she rested her head on James' shoulder while looking at the moon. "This was my mother's favourite thing, the full moon" Ava said, as she brought more memories of her mum to the surface.

"She's always looking over you Ava, and just remember she didn't want to leave you, some sick person took her from you," James said, Ava was just about to thank him when she heard a very sleepy Remus call her.

"Ava," Remus mumbled as he tried to find her, Ava thanked James before walking over and letting Remus engulf her into a big warm hug.

When Ava woke up, she no longer was engulfed by Remus' hug, but instead, she was laying on the bed as Remus sat on the window cill looking over the Black Lake.

"Morning" Ava mumbled as she tumbled out of bed and shuffled her way over to Remus and sat on his lap.

"Morning" Remus said as he caressed her cheek lovingly then kissed her nose before moving Ava onto the window cill and standing up. He walked over to his bed and grabbed a bag from underneath it "I got you something," he said as he handed the bag to Ava.

"You didn't have to," Ava said while looking in the bag. Inside the bag was some chocolates, well a lot of chocolate, sweets, DVDs and a DVD player. Ava looked up at Remus, she held up a DVD and the player and had a confused face.

Remus chuckled then came and hugged her "its a DVD and that is a DVD player, and that plays the DVD," he said, earning an equally confused face-off of Ava.

"I'm staying here with you all day and were going to watch movies and eat junk food, to help you feel better," he said as he took the DVD player off of Ava and started to plug it in.

Ava, was lucky to have Remus, he was willing to skip school just to be with her. Remus was faithful to his words and skipped school to eat sweets and chocolate while they watched movies.
