10-The Truth

About a week has passed by and nothing eventful has happened in the least. I wondered if Maple was even telling the truth about me seeing her sister again.

In the last few weeks, I have successfully done a few missions for Lord Death. I've also mastered the use of two new elements of magic. Fire and ice.

It was a late Friday night, I was sitting outside of Gallows Mansion under a tree behind the house. With the twins in weapon form, I practiced with a little magic.

Drake's gem color was red while Drew's gem color was a light blue, almost white color. A small flame floated over one palm while a shard of ice floated over the other. I'm really getting the hang of using two kinds of magic at once.

Kid's pov

I had just gotten a call from my father asking me to meet him in the Death Room. Since Liz and Patty had already gone to bed, I went out the back to see Luna sitting under a tree, practicing her magic.

I approached her and said, "Luna, my father has summoned me so I'll be back later."

She looked up at me. "Okay. See ya."

I summoned Beelzebub and took off toward the DWMA. Upon arriving, I had a strange feeling. I quickly dismissed it and went inside, heading straight to the Death Room.

"Hello, father. You summoned me?"

"Hey there, Kiddo! There's someone here I'd like for you to meet."

I looked over at the woman standing before me, narrowing my eyes slightly. I could immediately tell she wasn't a regular human, but instead, she was a witch.

Luna's pov

After Kid had flown away on his flying skateboard, I had melted the ice shard and let the flame disperse. Before I could get up, Drake suddenly spoke.

"Wait, I feel some kind of magic. Something I haven't felt before."

Drew then said, "I feel it too. Let's see if we can use it."

I watched as their gem colors slowly turned pitch black. I examined them for a moment.

"What kind of magic is this?"

Drew answered me. "We don't know."

"Just try using it, Lulu."

I sighed. "Alright, I just hope it's nothing dangerous."

I held my hands out and watched as the shadows around me gathered in one spot. I gasped as they formed a shape that emerged from the ground.

Now standing in front of me was a large wolf made from shadows with glowing red eyes (in the pic). I was afraid as it slowly approached me.

It suddenly nuzzled against me, causing me to sigh in relief. I stood up and looked at my twin weapons.

"Dark magic? How'd you guys learn to harness dark magic?"

I heard Drake answer me. "I don't know, we just kind of...felt it. How'd you learn to use it so quickly?"

I glanced back at the shadow wolf. "I have no idea. It just comes naturally, I guess. We've got to tell Lord Death about this."

The wolf allowed me to sit on its back. How handy, I can create my own transportation now. I held on and guided it as it ran through the empty streets.

Coming to a dead end, the wolf jumped up to the roof of a building before making its way down to the streets again. This was actually really fun, nothing can stop us.

Arriving in front of the DWMA, I climbed off the wolf and watched as its body slowly disappeared, returning to the shadows.

As soon as I went inside, I caught a familiar scent. Sniffing the air, the twins both ask me, "Something wrong?"

I shook my head. "I thought I smelt something...familiar, but I must be mistaken."

They didn't question me any further as I walked down the empty halls. The scent only got stronger as I got closer and closer to the Death Room.

No, it can't be. She can't really be here, can she? As soon as I entered the Death Room, all eyes were on me, Lord Death, Spirit, Kid...and her.

My eyes went straight to the witch who was the cause of all my problems. I sent a glare at her as I spoke.

"You! What are you doing here, Oakley?!"

She smirked. "Hello, Luna. I got your message so I decided to come see you for myself."

Lord Death then interrupted, "Ah, so you know each other. Oakley here is requesting for our protection while she's here in Death City. She has already agreed not to cause any problems."

My eyes widened and I couldn't help but yell as I pointed to the witch. "What?! She can't be trusted! Please, Lord Death, you can't let her stay here!"

"Aww, what's the matter, Luna? Not willing to forgive me?"

I glared at her as a low growl erupted from my throat. "Forgive you?! How could I ever forgive you after everything you've done?!"

She gave me a fake sad face while the others simply watched our argument. "I really am sorry, why can't you just forgive and forget?"

"Shut up, Oakley!"

With that being said, I lunged at her. She quickly got away from me before speaking again.

"Come now, Luna. The past is in the past."

"You're right, the past is the past. But right now is the present, and I will rip your soul out of your worthless body!"

I ran toward her, swiping at her as she dodged. I finally had enough and grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the ground.

I growled. "Now undo what you did to me!"

She smirked as my grip around her neck tightened. "I told you before, I can't. I place curses, not cure them."

She then kicked me off her and jumped back away from me. I glared at her.

"Quit running and fight me, coward!"

I stalked toward her as she said, "Very well. Wolf wolf, wolf spike!"

A bunch of small spikes appeared around her and flew toward me. I continued walking toward her, deflecting the spikes as they came toward me.

I grabbed one that flew toward my face and crushed it in my clawed hands. I smirked upon seeing the scared look on Oakley's face.

"As you can see, I've gotten a lot stronger since the last time we met."

She quickly grabbed something and yelled, "Stop!"

I stopped, eyes widening upon seeing what she held in her hand. She brought the small whistle closer to her mouth and smirked.

"I'd watch my step if I were you, Luna. Wouldn't want these reapers to see what you really are, now would we?"

I glanced back at the others, seeing a look of confusion on Spirit and Kid's faces. I clenched my fists in frustration.

"Better watch that temper too, Luna. You know what'll happen if you let it out."

I couldn't stop myself from charging at her. She quickly blew the whistle, causing me to stop and hold my ears in pain.

"Luna!"

The worried voices of my weapons were drowned out by the whistle. When she stopped, I heard Kid say something.

"I didn't hear anything."

Oakley practically answered him. "That's because this is a dog whistle."

My eyes grew wide as I heard Kid and Spirit both gasp. No, this can't be happening. I felt tears well up in my eyes as Oakley gave a wicked grin.

"Run along now, Luna. Go hide yourself from the world."

I held my arms and glared at her through watery eyes. I finally turned and began leaving the Death Room.

"Luna!"

Kid's voice rang out as I heard his footsteps catching up to me. "Luna, are you okay?"

Feeling his hand touch my shoulder, I instantly turned and snapped at him.

"Don't touch me!"

I froze upon seeing the hurt look on his face as he retracted his hand. I turned away and ran.

"Luna, wait!"

I ignored his desperate call and ran all the way back home to Gallows Mansion. The twins slipped off my hands as I muttered to them.

"I need some time alone."

I went to my room, shutting and locking the door. I couldn't stop the tears from falling and allowed my body to change form.

I'm so scared, what will Kid say? He'll probably abandon me, just like everyone else.

Kid's pov

I watched as she ran away from me. Just what is going on here? There's just one thing I know for sure, this Oakley witch can't be trusted. I believe what Luna told my father.

I turned back around upon hearing Oakley's voice, "So, do we have a deal, Lord Death?"

I looked to my father as he glanced at me and Spirit. Spirit had the same distrustful look as I did.

My father replied, "Sorry, but I cannot accept your deal. Now I'm going to have to ask you to leave Death City."

"Hmph, fine."

She walked past me and quietly left, just as my father had asked. I looked down at the ground, thinking of Luna's reaction.

I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see my father.

"Seeing Luna's reaction has confirmed my suspicions. You should go find her, I have a feeling your questions will soon be answered."

I nodded. "Thank you, father."

I rushed outside, summoning Beelzebub and flying back home. I have so many questions, hopefully Luna will answer them now.

Entering Gallows Mansion, I was immediately greeted by the twins.

"Where's Luna?"

Drake pointed his thumb behind him. "She's up in her room, but she wants to be left alone."

I sighed in relief. "Good. Maybe you two can tell me, how did Luna know that witch? What is she hiding?"

They looked at each other before Drew said, "Like we've said before, we can't tell. If you want to know, you'll have to get it out of Luna."

"Alright, I will."

I headed upstairs with the twins following. I stopped in front of Luna's door, giving a slight knock.

Luna's pov

My ears perked up as I heard a knock on my door and saw the doorknob jiggle. They were soon followed by a voice.

"Luna, please let me in."

I quickly recognized Kid's voice. "No! Go away! I don't want to see anyone!"

"Luna, if you don't open the door, I'll be forced to break it down."

I got up in a panic, nudging the window open before jumping out. Landing on my feet, I heard a crash, signalling that Kid really did break the door down.

I ran as fast as I could away from the mansion. Not looking back, I continued down streets until I got to the forested area near the DWMA.

I slowed down as I made my way to a small pond. I panted and looked up at the starry sky between the trees.

I sat in front of the pond, looking at my human reflection in the water. Tears fell down my face as I curled my tail around my feet. Kid will find me, knowing him, he won't give up until he does.

Kid's pov

Breaking down Luna's door, I looked around at the empty room. My eyes went straight to the open window as I rushed over, looking out to see if I could still see her.

I turned, heading back out of the room. I looked at the twins and said, "I'm going after her."

They both smiled and Drew replied, "If anyone can get through to her, it's you."

I gave a small smile before rushing out of the house. She can't be far, I'll use my soul perception to track her.

Sure enough, I found her soul. It was slightly different, but I could still tell it was her. I followed it down streets until I came close to the DWMA.

I followed her soul into the forested area near the academy. She was just a short distance away now.

Coming into a clearing, I saw a white and black wolf. My eyes grew wide as I realized it was Luna. With her back to me, she gazed up at the sky.

"Luna?"

Her head lowered as I heard her sigh. "I was hoping you'd never see me like this, Kid."

Luna's pov

I listened to his approaching footsteps until he was right beside me. He sat down as I turned my head away.

"Please, Luna, tell me what happened to you in the past. Tell me who that witch was. Tell me why you're like this now."

I sighed and glanced at him. "I can't really hide it anymore. Okay, I'll tell you everything."

I looked back up at the sky as I began my story. "It all started when I was little. I grew up on the streets of a small town surrounded by woods. My parents were killed by witches when I was just a baby, but the townspeople took care of me. Everyone was so kind, they were like family to me."

I looked at Kid. "Our town was often attacked by kishin and witches, but we always pulled through. But one day, I was kidnapped by a witch. That witch...was Oakley. She placed a curse on me, a curse that turns me into a beast if my emotions are too unstable. When I get too angry or upset, I transform."

Kid slowly nodded in understanding. "After placing a curse on me, she set me free. I returned to the town to see almost everything was destroyed. The survivors found me, but when they saw what Oakley did to me, they turned on me. They thought I had joined Oakley and blamed me for what had happened."

I used a paw to wipe a stray tear from my face. "Calling me a monster, they chased me out of the town. I was alone, without a home, and the people I trusted abandoned me. Oakley was the only one still there, taunting me. I promised that one day, I would get my revenge on Oakley for doing this to me."

"What did you do then?"

"The only thing a little girl could do. I tried to find a place I could call home. But everywhere I went, I couldn't find a place that accepted me with my flaw. I couldn't escape the fear and hate of those who knew, so I stopped letting my emotions out and hid myself from people."

I could see the look of sadness on Kid's face. "Soon after, I found Drake and Drew. Being orphans like me, they didn't have a home either. They asked to be my partners, they were the only ones who accepted me, the only ones I could trust. They even agreed to help me take down Oakley."

I looked at Kid with a sad smile. "And that about sums up my past. Every time I did manage to find Oakley, she would always slip out of my grasp. I'll never forgive her for what she did to me, and now, she's been asking me to join her. Of course I always refuse."

I looked down at my reflection sadly. "She turned me into a monster."

Kid's reflection appeared beside mine. "Luna, you're not a monster. Just because you change on the outside doesn't mean you change on the inside. See, even your reflection knows that."

I looked at him in surprise as he gave me a gentle smile. "Besides, you're still almost perfectly symmetrical."

"Kid, I..."

I turned my head away, unable to speak. I suddenly felt his hand on my head, gently stroking my fur.

"It's okay, you don't have to be afraid anymore. You can rest easy now."

Without warning, he pushed my head down on his leg as he continued stroking my head. A small smile spread across my lips as I closed my eyes.

For some reason, I feel so comfortable and safe with him here. I feel like a weight had just lifted off my shoulders as I grew tired. I felt myself beginning to doze off.

Kid's pov

After a short while, I realized Luna had fallen asleep. I smiled to myself. She finally told me. I finally understand her.

I retracted my hand from her head when I noticed her body changing. In an instant, she was back to her human self. She looked so peaceful for once.

Not wanting to wake her, I slowly shifted and lifted her into my arms bridal style. I carried her back to Gallows Mansion.

The twins were still up, they must've been really worried about her. I took Luna to her room, laying her in her bed before quietly leaving.

I looked at the twins as Drake asked, "So, do you...know?"

I nodded, "She explained everything to me."

Drew tilted his head slightly. "And...you still accept her?"

"Of course. I would never turn my back on her."

They both smiled. "Good."

"It's late, we should all get some rest. Goodnight, you two."

"Night, Kid."

I headed to my room, still thinking of Luna. Hopefully Luna will be okay with telling the others, she has no reason to hide anymore. I drifted to sleep, happy with the way things turned out tonight.
