You Call It Madness, I Call It Love [11: Un coup de foudre - Part 2]

'You're a carousel'

Luka had transformed using Kaalki allowing Ladybug and Rena through the portal before moving their equipment back onto 'The Liberty' apparently it had all been cleared with Adrien and the glasses would be returned as soon as whatever this thing was had finished.

She looked over to Rena Rouge and her heart fluttered at the sight of all the roses. He was telling a story. Letting her know exactly when he felt a spark or a fire ignite for her, the yellow and red tip rose making her smile as she thought about the indication.

"Ok, so it's not actually the carousel we're looking for?" Rena asked, looking around the park. They'd headed straight there, Ladybug sure that's where the next clue would be.

"No, it'll be the statue. It's a big deal to both of us."

"I don't know why?" Rena said with a shrug, "we all have huge, monutenal, bronze statues of ourselves. It's such an ordinary thing."

"No need for the sarcasm," Ladybug laughed, moving towards the statue. She caught a glimpse of the boulargie and her parents (and Emma) glaring out the window. What was going on today? She would have understood if it was a big birthday, like she was turning 21 or 30, but she was 23. It all seemed very extra, but then again this was Chat Noir she was talking about.

Chat Noir's ideas with Adrien Agreste's money was a lethal combination.

"Girl, come here! You're not going to believe this!"

Ladybug left her spot looking around the back of the statue to where Rena was indicating. Ladybug looked up and gasped. Her husband was a complete ass! Which is where he'd so willingly stuck the next rose. Yes, that's right, her husband had a rose positioned between his bronzed butt cheeks.

She looked over at Rena who was holding back tears of laughter, Ladybug joining in as she climbed the statue and took the red and white rose from his bronzed buttocks. Red and white - unity.

Shaking her head she continued to look, finally finding the next clue.

'You're a wishing well.'

"Easy!" Ladybug said, jumping down and running to the fountain. The fountain where they'd hid from Gorilla andAdrien's crazy fans ten years ago.

Ironically, the fountain was drained once again. A folded pair of pyjamas sitting alone waiting for someone to come and collect them, someone she was most certain was her. Parkouring over the side like it was a 10 foot wall, she made her way to them and lifted them up. Woah, she wouldn't even get a leg in them these days.

"Where the hell did he find these?" She was shocked to say the least. She hadn't worn these since she was 15.

"Okay, I'm starting to get curious now," Rena said, bending beside Ladybug and lifting a hot pink rose, twirling it around in her fingers - thanks and appreciation.

"Right?" Ladybug said, holding the top in front of her body.

"Try all you want my friend, but you're not fitting in that." They both laughed, before doing the same with the bottoms. Rena slapped Ladybug on the tush before handing her the card which had been attached to the rose.

'And you light me up, when you ring my bell'

"The Eiffel Tower," Rena squealed before Ladybug could even begin to think what the clue could have been. "It's so obvious. 'Light me up' is the Eiffel Tower, and also the place you've rang his bell the most. I know because I made a compilation of them last month, and I also now know you don't follow my blog anymore because you would have known too."

"I have a one year old, it's not as simple as just watching an hour-long video anymore, especially when it's about me." They began to move in tandem towards the Iron-Lady.

"No, that's true. Yet, you're fine watching cats doing funny things clip shows, and don't try and deny it, I've seen your phone's history."

Ladybug stopped, her mouth hanging open as she looked at her friend. "You don't know how annoying that is!" she shouted after her friend.

The fox laughed in the distance as she continued on her way to the location.

Kicking the speed up a notch, Ladybug landed beside Rena in a matter of seconds, both looking around the area and considering where he would leave it. A consideration which was cut short as Ladybug saw Myléne standing under the monument holding something in her hand; a lavender rose with envelope, and a key.

Lavender - enchantment and splendour; a budding romance.

"Hey, Ladybug," Myléne ran over to her friends, dropping them both a wink. "I have been asked to pass these onto you."

The smaller girl was pretty much bouncing from foot to foot, only making Ladybug more and more curious as to what her partner was planning.

"Thanks," she said curiously, taking the rose and handing it to Alya, then reaching out for the envelope and key.

Without warning, Myléne launched herself into Ladybug's arms, the bounce continuing and taking the heroine with her.

"I'll see you both later."

Before Ladybug could question what the smaller girl meant, Myléne had turned and walked away, leaving Ladybug and Rena to stare at the key and the card.

"So far we've seen Kagami, Kitty Section, Myléne...how do you not know what this is about?" Ladybug asked Rena, twisting the key in between her fingers.

"Because for once your idiotic husband has left me out the loop."

"That means it's something you might have spilled then," Ladybug opened the envelope and pulled out her next clue.

"Why does everyone think I'm crap at keeping secrets? I've known your identity the longest, I'm a brilliant secret keeper, it's Nino that's shit." Rena crossed her arms over herself and glared at her friend.

"Well, I don't know then. Your guess is as good as mine." She looked at the words written on the card and then at the key.

"What does it say?" Rena asked, moving closer to look over Ladybug's shoulder.

"You're a mystery, you're from outer space. You're every minute of my everyday."

"And a key? No idea."

Ladybug looked backwards and forwards between the two, her super Ladybug sight not as effective as it was pre-Emma. It could be the moon, but then again why would they go to the moon? Maybe it was the space station, after all they went there when Sass had reset time and that was out of space, but then again why would she need a key?

She studied the key from different angles and suddenly the penny dropped, it was a key to their apartment. Their first home together, where it was a mystery and they spent every minute of everyday together.

Without explaining to Rena, she took off in the direction of their old apartment, her best friend struggling to keep up with her.

"How many of these do you think he's set up? It looks like it's going to rain and I'm not in the mood for getting wet." The complaining noise of Rena came up behind Ladybug as they landed on her old secluded balcony.

The apartment was vacant again, neither let or sold, just sitting there as a possible home for Emma in the future. A part of their family, a legacy to not be forgotten. Using the key, Ladybug opened the door to find the place covered in yellow roses. She prayed he wouldn't be making her clear all this mess up once she'd finally found him, clean up was totally on him and his little cronies.

"Yellow roses?" Rena asked, Ladybug lifting one to her nose and smiling.

"The first colour I willingly accepted from him. It means friendship, but also new beginnings. Kitty's really done his homework." She walked around the apartment, her hands grazing the surfaces of their furniture, memories striking her with each touch.

She stopped in the kitchen noticing the box of Malted Milk Balls with a post it note attached to it. Looking between the two objects she licked her lips. Did she carry on this bizarre treasure hunt or eat the chocolates? Her foot began to tap against the floor, not quite sure which way to go. She was quite hungry after all, they'd been all over the place; and whatever he was planning wouldn't disappear, she was sure of it.

Tapping her gloved finger against the countertop she made an executive decision...Malted Milk Balls. Ripping the top off the bag, the startling realisation hit her that it was empty.

Dammit!

Inside, instead of an array of delicious chocolatey milk treats, there was another 'Post It' note. Now this was just mean! On her birthday as well!

M'Lady...the treat lies at the close.

"Who does he think he is? Dumbledore?" Ladybug huffed, taking the 'post it' from the front of the box and reading it over.

'And I can't believe, that I'm your man

And I get to kiss you baby just because I can'

Kiss you just because I can...

Kiss...

Kiss...

Dark Cupid.

"We need to go to the fountain where I kissed him. The Dark Cupid attack." Ladybug flew out the window heading straight for the direction of the fountain only to be stopped by Rena blocking her way.

"Wait! It says he can kiss you when he wants. You forced him to kiss you during Dark Cupid, it can't be there."

They both stopped on a random rooftop, looking out toward the many locations it could possibly be...since their companionship kicked up a notch he'd kissed her pretty much everywhere, including outer space.

Then it struck her at the same time as Rena, both

turning their eyes to look at the other before speaking in sync. "Oblivio."

Bounding off towards the top of Montparnasse Tower neither were surprised to see the pink rose encased like a prop from 'Beauty and the Beast' a little throwback to Weredad included. Ladybug laughed as she headed over towards it, lifting the glass from the rose and offering it out to Alya.

Grace, gentleness, admiration, perfect happiness.

"I'm perfectly happy too, My Kitty," Ladybug said, causing Rena to heave behind her.

"You're married now, you shouldn't be this mushy."

"Green's not your colour my friend."

"Green? I'm not jealous! I think you're both insane."

"Insanely in love," Ladybug said with a sigh, taking what seemed like a screwed up piece of paper from under the rose.

Screwed up piece of paper? Before even looking at the words he'd carefully chosen she knew exactly where she needed to go. The paper representing the beginning of their partnership.

'Whatever comes our way, oh we'll see it through

And you know that's what our love can do'

"Parc des Princes, where we fought our first akuma."

"Oh yes," Rena smiled, "how could we ever forget!"

Again the two set off for the venue Chat had left his next rose and, maybe, the last? Ladybug began to wonder how much of her day was going to be spent running around Paris, and most of all she was wondering what was going to be at the end of all this, because if she was doing all this for a bouquet of mismatched roses she wasn't going to be well pleased.

They reached the stadium to see a shipping container situated in the centre and she couldn't hold back the snort that left her mouth. He really was something else.

"What's he telling you? He wants to ship you off?" Rena landed on top of the container and bent over the edge to look inside, unfortunately the door was securely closed and locked.

"It was the first time we came face to face without the masks, our eyes were closed but he proved how much he trusted me and allowed me to trust him."

"So you weren't tempted to peek?"

Ladybug shrugged as she walked around the side to the door and pulled it open. "Not really. We both knew what we needed to do."

"Just think, if you'd cracked those bluebells open just a teeny tiny slither you and Buttercup could have been making out in a shipping container."

"And what a delightful experience that would have been. I've always wanted to make out with my husband in a shipping container." Ladybug rolled her eyes as her response came with a thick coating of sarcasm.

"He wasn't your husband at the time though. He was a hot model who you were obsessed with." Rena grunted, her hold alongside Ladybug's pulling the bar and opening the container, only for a large (and ridiculous) amount of deep red, burgundy and light pink rose petals to fall out in a river of expense.

Unselfconscious beauty, sweetness and friendship.

Walking around the container she tried to work out where he would have placed the end prize. She scanned the top, bottom and sides before finally reaching the tiny compartment; the compartment where she'd placed their 'Miraculous'.

Pulling the drawer down, a long cuboid box was situated inside wrapped in the prettiest pink paper she'd ever seen, complete with bow on top. Taking it out, she sat down cross legged, box perched perfectly on her lap, her fingers trailing along the box and stroking over the bow.

"Are you going to open it?" Rena said, sitting beside Ladybug and staring at the box intently. "I wonder if it's your birthday present?"

"Do you seriously have no clue about what he's doing?" Ladybug asked curiously.

"I swear on Nino's life," Rena said, "I haven't got a clue."

Nodding, Ladybug slipped one finger under the fold and lifted the sellotape holding it together. She unfolded the paper carefully, not wanting to make a tear in the material; flattening it down until the box was unveiled.

The white box had the next words written on it:

'And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times

It's you, it's you, you make me sing

You're every line, you're every word, you're everything'

The last lines of the song.

Opening the box, she tipped the object out, pushing the thick emotion down in her throat as it threatened to overtake her; in her lap lay his umbrella.

•••••

Adrien stood at the top of the steps at Collège Françoise DuPont, eyes permanently fixated on his watch. Luka had arrived with the rest of Kitty Section about 30 minutes ago so Marinette had to be close to completing the trail. The movement of bodies scurrying around the area had him double checking that everything was in the right place.

He was nervous, unbelievably nervous, though he wasn't quite sure why? Maybe it's because he was finally about to do what he'd dreamed of doing since he was 13.

Looking up into the sky, he could see the rain clouds coming over and it would be just his luck for the heavens to open just when he was about to give her the present. Maybe the rain was a lucky omen? She'd fallen in love with him twice in the rain after all?

A large hand clamped down on his shoulder, and he turned his eyes to look directly into those of his father in law, the wonderful guy who'd been more a father to him in the past couple of years than his own had in the 23 years of his life.

"You look a little pale, son, don't tell me you're nervous." Tom stood alongside him, his presence there a reassuring one as his mind raced through a whole abundance of doubt.

"Ha..." Adrien laughed, "not nervous, just terrified."

The big guy laughed, pulling Adrien into a hug as the faint sound of 'papa' could be heard on repeat. Small, wobbly legs brought his daughter over to him, as she stumbled and walked like a cowboy into his waiting arms.

"Hey little Princess, do you think Maman will like the surprise?"

"Webo!" Adrien laughed.

'Webo' was Emma's chosen word of the week, neither him or Marinette having a clue what it meant. Emma obviously did though as she repeated it with vigour, shaking her head chaotically side to side.

He pressed a sloppy kiss to Emma's cheek, making sure it made a noise and made her laugh, before dropping her onto her feet and allowing her to toddle off to whoever she wanted to play with next, today's choice – Uncle Kim.

"Come here, Sugar Plum Fairy." The swimmer said, bending down on one knee to more her height.

Adrien watched his friend fawn over his daughter, grabbing her and lifting her high in the air, causing her to let out a scream and a giggle.

His friends were amazing with Emma, and he couldn't be more grateful to have them in his life. Emma had so many fantastic honorary Aunts and Uncles, he was quite sure no child had ever been so lucky. The way they'd all embraced her, and the way she loved them back had made everything so much easier; the most amazing support system he ever could have imagined.

Sabine stepped forward and pulled Adrien down into an embrace, kissing him on the cheek. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice breaking as she spoke, the obvious glistening of tears appearing in her eyes. "Thank you," she said again, "for being the best thing that ever happened to our daughter. We love you so much, Adrien."

He felt his own resolve break as the first, of what he was sure would turn into a tsunami of tears trickled not so elegantly down his face.

"Sorry," his mother in law said, taking a tissue and wiping underneath his eyes.

Adrien laughed, pressing his own lips to his mother-in-law's cheek. "It's okay," he sniffed, "I'm just so thankful to you and Tom for accepting me."

"You're our daughter's hero, there's no one more perfect." Sabine tapped him affectionately on his cheek before moving away.

"I won't take offence by that," a voice said behind them, Sabine clutching the newcomer in a quick side hug and a pat on his cheek, before continuing over to Tom.

"Ha," Nino said to Luka, "she didn't even deny it. Burn!"

Luka rolled his eyes and Adrien noticed him looking over in the direction of Kagami, a Kagami who wasn't smiling as scarily as usual. It was a lot softer and rather attractive.

"She won't bite you know," Adrien said, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at his friend.

"Her melody seems a lot happier recently," Luka said, his eyes still placed on the beauty talking to Alix. Kagami turned her head and waved, Luka diverting his attention elsewhere with a little blush fawning his cheeks.

"I think that might have something to do with a musician who has been giving her some special attention." Adrien smirked, all of them turning back to Kagami and noticing a slight red taking over her own cheeks. "You know the snake and dragon are very compatible right?" He continued only for Luka to smile widely.

"So I've heard, Snake Noir." Luka patted Adrien on the shoulder before moving in the direction of Kagami. "Good luck, man."

"Adrien, get ready." Nino pointed into the distance where they saw a trail of red and orange heading towards Parc des Princes. The last clue. It was time.

"Everyone!" Adrien announced, "thank you all for coming. If you'd like to head over to the Grand Hotel, Sabrina has set up a suite for us all. I'll bring Marinette over as soon as possible."

Everyone sounded their 'good luck' as they headed off in the direction of the hotel, excited chatter following in the wind and leaving only Adrien and Nino on the steps, with Wayzz and Plagg.

They'd decorated the staircase with red rose petals, placing candles up the steps to the top; to the place where Marinette had taken his umbrella and their relationship had begun. He took a deep breath and nodded to Nino, his best friend knowing exactly what he needed to do.

Both moved away and hid, waiting for the arrival of Adrien's bride to be (again). No, it wasn't the wedding today. He wouldn't do that to her, but he did have his mother's ring in his pocket alongside his Lady's wedding band, but only one would be adorning her finger today.

Adrien stood behind a pillar, waiting for the correct time to appear and surprise his wife; Nino, ready to play his part in it too.

He heard them before he saw them, the giggling sound of two girls rounding the corner, and he couldn't help the little peak around the stone object. She had detransformed and she was breathtaking, her pale pink sundress fitting her perfectly and framing every curve. He took a deep breath, placing a hand in his pocket and encompassing it around the ring. He just had to wait for her to come up the steps.

"Red roses!" He heard her high pitched excited tone, followed by the pounding sound of feet running up the steps. Looking towards where Nino was standing, he saw his friend give him two thumbs up.

It was time.

Adrien stepped out from behind the column and took a deep breath before positioning himself down on one knee. Marinette was looking over to the side where he'd left a rather over the top display of red roses, her attention firmly on the perfect red petals. He looked down the staircase and caught eyes with Alya, the woman opening her mouth only to be restricted by Nino moving in on his girlfriend and clasping a hand over it, stopping her from shouting out to Marinette.

As Alya was literally dragged away by Nino, thunder crashed in the background and raindrops started to fall on him, his wife turning around and meeting his eye.

She opened the umbrella she had in hand and scurried over to him.

"What are you doing? You're going to get soaked," she laughed, holding the umbrella over both of them.

"Hey. I just wanted you to know that I was only trying to take the chewing gum off your seat. I swear. I've never been to school before. I've never had friends. It's all sort of new to me," he said, his smile increasing as he took out his mother's engagement ring and held it up to Marinette, before looking up at the umbrella. "You've kept it all this time?"

She smiled back at him, recognition playing in her eyes as the pitter patter of raindrops fell against the supple material of the umbrella.

"Oh yeah, it's just sorry- I mean sorry you're right this is your embrace- I mean umbrella you let me kiss- keep, keep I can finally gaze- I mean give... it back."

"You're gonna need it to get through all this."

"We've got an umbrella," she whispered to him, "why don't we use it? We could walk home, what do you say?" Her last words were coming out as choked sobs, her hand over her mouth as once again thunder roared in the background.

He stood to his full height, hitting his head on the umbrella as he stood, both laughing as she lifted it higher. The perfect timing of their perfect umbrella, as it closed tightly around them, trapping them both inside. Adrien looked to his wife, attempting to bring the ring up between their bodies.

"This damn umbrella hates us," Adrien laughed, taking Marinette's trembling hand in his own. "I'm glad you found me, not just today but the first time we met ten years ago. I'm glad you became my protector and my best friend, I'm glad we got drunk, sang karaoke and ended up married..."

"Even though you had to break up with America's sweetheart?" she laughed.

"I got the world's sweetheart instead." They smiled at each other and he took another deep breath. "You took the proposal away from me, so I wanted a redo."

"It was very extra."

"What did you expect? A nice dinner and a ring in a champagne glass?"

"That's not my ring Kitty." Her smile told him she knew exactly who's ring it was. He twisted it between his fingers, placing his other hand around her back; pulling her in closer and keeping them both out of the rain.

"Your ring won't be back until the wedding day."

"How do you know I'll say yes?" she teased, and he was quite sure if he was in suit she would have flicked his bell.

"Ladybug Dupain-Cheng, Marinette Agreste, MultiNoir, will you please marry me again so Nino gets to deliver his best man speech?"

"Anything for Nino," she responded, moving forward and kissing her husband with all her might. Using her other hand she stretched between them and opened the umbrella, lips still intertwined and the sounds of cheers from their best friends.

Adrien moved back onto one knee and held onto her hand, threading the resized ring onto her finger and kissing her knuckles gently.

"I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too." He stood once more, this time taking the umbrella from her hands to hold up higher and kissed her. Passionately and deeply.

They were suddenly hit with the impact of two other bodies as Nino and Alya collided with them. The core four holding onto each other tightly, laughing and giggling.

"This is the best birthday ever," Marinette said, placing a hand against Adrien's cheek and moving in for another kiss.

"Keeping it from Alya was the hardest part," Adrien laughed, digging an elbow into their friend's ribs.

"I don't know if I'll ever forgive you for that, Agreste."

They started laughing again, Marinette taking the bouquet's (multi coloured and red) from her friend.

"Now, it's time to celebrate."

"What do you suggest, Kitty?" she locked her arm through this husband/fiancé/partner/best friend's arm and they made their way down the steps and away from the school.

Adrien smiled at Marinette before looking at Nino and dropping him a wink.

"The parties are just beginning."

They made their way into the Grand Hotel where Sabrina had done an amazing job of throwing a combined birthday and engagement party. The balloons, banners and table wear all reflecting her favourite pink.

To say Marinette was shocked would be an understatement, taking their daughter straight into her arms they began to make their rounds. Words of congratulations and love spread between them and their friends as the Akuma class partied into the night in celebration of Marinette's birthday and the love birds second engagement - and, of course, they ate their weight in Marinette's promised Malted Milk Balls.
