Thank You For Loving Me [31: Always - Part 1]
3 Months Later...
Marinette sat in the hotel room, Emma napping in the bridal suite bed as she stroked through her soft and fluffy baby hair. The makeup artist and hair stylists would be arriving shortly and within the next two hours Marinette would be walking down the aisle ready to renew the vows she doesn't remember with her husband.
As she sat looking at her darling daughter sleeping, she couldn't help but reminisce over hers and Adrien's time together. It had been three months since he'd proposed and it had all seemed like a crazy rush. She hadn't wanted to wait, her love for both her husband and her daughter making her want to cement the life as quickly as possible; not that she didn't already feel like an Agreste, after all they had been over two years, but this time it was different. This time Marinette was walking down the aisle to the man who she adored, the man who was her hero and the man who accepted her with open arms; clumsiness and all.
Emma sighed in her sleep and Marinette couldn't help but smile. It was going to be a big day for the little cherub, so many people around and different stimulants, Marinette was worried it might be a little too much for the 15 month old. Luckily, she had the most supportive parents in the world, both offering to look after Emma so Marinette and Adrien could enjoy their night, and hopefully create more grand babies — Tom's words, not hers.
"Knock, knock," the door pushed open and Alya walked in rather dramatically on her tiptoes, hands out like she was the pink panther searching for crime.
"Hey," Marinette smiled back, her hand pulling away from her daughter. "Everything okay?" she asked. Alya had been a tremendous help with planning the wedding, she'd been by her side the whole way. Marinette knew her friend was still sour with Adrien after not being part of the proposal, the fiery woman bringing it up at any given opportunity.
"Everything's perfect and all spot on time at the moment." The reporter smiled.
"You've spent far too much time with Adrien this morning. How many times has he used that pun?"
"Too many to count," Alya laughed, moving forward a little more to look over at Emma. "How's my goddaughter doing? Is she ready to be the prettiest flower girl in the world?"
"As long as she doesn't eat them first." Marinette laughed, standing up so Alya could take her place. Emma was a fussy sleeper and the last thing they needed was the toddler throwing herself out the bed and having a big egg on her head before the photos. The toddler was a scruffy tyrant enough without the added bruises.
"Your papa has sorted that out. Adrien had the idea of rice paper instead of real petals so she can eat away. Tom's made about ten dozen so she's safe to munch away."
Marinette giggled. "Of course he has. If she's sick I hope they know they're dealing with her for the rest of the night. I have better things to be doing."
"Better things? Is that a new nickname?"
Marinette looked up to the balcony coming eye to eye with Paris' most attractive hero, bar herself of course.
"Get out you stray! I'm soon to be a married woman, this affair needs to stop."
Chat Noir walked in, swishing his hips as he walked, his tail flicking from side to side. "I think you should ditch the model and see what it's like to be with a real man."
Gasping in shock, Marinette placed one hand to her chest. "What would your wife think?"
"I don't know about his wife, but Adrien's wife's best friend wants you both to get out before you wake up this little Princess."
Chat Noir turned his head and Marinette could see him take in the scene of Alya on the bed beside a sleeping Emma.
"Oooppss..." he uttered, his hand coming up to scratch the back of his neck. "I didn't check the clock before I left. I forgot it was nap time."
"You're too excited," Alya said, standing from the bed. "I get it!" She turned her attention to Marinette before speaking again. "You have an hour before Juleka arrives to do your makeup, go and have some fun. I've got it covered here; plus it's not like you can be struck with bad luck, you're already married and you're not in the dress yet."
Looking between her husband and her best friend she smiled, lunging forward and taking Alya in her arms. "I promise I'll be back in time."
"I'm not holding my breath," Alya laughed before moving again to head back to the sleeping baby. "It's your wedding, you can be as late as you want. It's not like the groom's going to worry you're getting cold feet. You're already married, remember."
"Spots on," Ladybug replaced Marinette as she stretched out to join hands with her husband, "I promise I will be back as soon as possible."
"Don't make promises you can't keep." Alya winked as the two heroes quietly and inconspicuously exited the building.
•••••
Chat Noir pressed her up against the chimney as his lips found hers in a deep, passionate kiss. He truly loved his daughter, he did, but having alone time with his Lady was still special and he craved it.
"I love you so much." The same words kept leaving his mouth as his lips kept reacquainting themselves with his wife, the hot action fighting hard against the chill of autumn.
"I love you too," she breathed out, "almost as much as I love my fiancé."
"Well, he is quite the catch!"
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer again, her lips firmly sealing themselves to his, sucking the oxygen out of his lungs and sending him light headed.
"Do you ever regret it?" she asked him, her head pressing firmly against his, her hands spread and fanning over his face. A tight grasp to keep him close.
She'd asked him the same question time and time again and his answer had always been 'no' until today.
"Yes," he whispered, causing her to reel back in shock.
"Excuse me?" she questioned, and he couldn't help but grin at her, a little snicker leaving his lips as she smacked his arm one, twice, three times.
"Sometimes I wonder why I married you!" she growled, Chat grabbing hold of her waist once more and pushing her into the chimney once again, his lips locking onto hers.
"I think it was my exceptional dress sense, my comedic timing and my ass. But the reason I said yes was because I wish this was our first wedding. A wedding with our family and friends, and one we can remember." He punctuated the sentence once more with a deep meaningful kiss; his body pushing into hers as he pressed past her lips in a search for a deeper exploration.
She sighed as he separated once again, his smile growing as her eyes fluttered open from their closed position.
"Hi," he grinned, her own smile sending a hurricane of emotions down to his stomach.
"Hey yourself, hot stuff."
He puffed his chest out and let one arm unravel around her so he could flex his muscles. "You've gotta admit, M'Lady, I rock the dad bod."
She smacked him in the abs with the back of her hand, the loud 'thadunk' making them both laugh.
"Yeah, such a dad bod, Mr twenty-eight pack."
"I know you think you're insulting me, but I'm proud of these." He poked himself in the stomach, a smug grin on his face. "I know my wife is too. She was licking —"
She slammed a hand over his mouth, restricting the next words from leaving.
"You finish that sentence and you'll be standing at that altar alone."
Digging his fingers into her ribs, she squealed and removed her hand from his mouth.
"Don't worry, Bugaboo, you see I have a back up plan."
"Oh, really? Pray tell?" She crossed her arms, sticking one hip out to the side as she stared him down.
"If you don't marry me, I'm marrying Luka." He watched as her eyebrows lifted and her mouth opened into an 'o', before one of her eyebrows lifted.
"I can take him in a fight."
They started laughing as Chat Noir pulled her closer into his body and cupped her jaw, his lips pulling hers to him like a magnet as her arms pushed over his chest and looped around his neck, adding to a kiss filled with teeth, tongue and longing.
"Is that your yo-yo or are you just happy to see me?"
A vibration continued on his thigh, Ladybug groaning and she reached down to grab her communicator.
"I hope it's not about Emma," she uttered, flicking it open and frowning at the name. "It's Nino." Pressing the green button, she held the yo-yo to her ear and said her greetings.
Chat watched as she nodded once, twice, three times which was followed by a deep sigh. Whatever was happening Nino wasn't even giving her a chance to respond. She kept opening and closing her mouth to no avail. He stretched out, grabbing the yo-yo from her hands and placed it to his own ear.
"Hey dude, what's happening?"
"The priest has just called, he's come down with food poisoning. They're saying it's too late to send anyone else. Sorry, man."
"Nino, it's okay...we're heading back now. We'll figure something out." Shutting down the yo-yo and handing it back to his wife, she gave him that knowing look. The look which said she was thinking the same as him.
"Luka?" he asked.
Her smile was devilious and he wished they could skip the ceremony and go straight to the evening entertainment. "Well, did say you wanted Luka to marry you."
•••••
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?"
"I'm surprisingly nervous considering I'm already married to the man."
Marinette stood side by side with her father as Emma stomped around squealing and playing 'peep po' with Alya. Her daughter looked beautiful, and even though her hair was perfect when Rose had put a little clip five minutes earlier, it now looked scruffy and very much her. Wild and carefree—just like her father.
Her little white dress mirrored Marinette's, and the blush pink accessories matched the tie and pocket square Adrien would be wearing. She couldn't wait to get down the aisle and officially become an Agreste, feeling as though her name would finally truly match her husband and daughter. Ladybug had married her dream man, now it was time for Marinette to marry hers.
"Myself and your Maman, we both just want you to know we're really proud of both of you. Not only with the Ladybug and Chat Noir thing, but the way you got married and both took ownership of it - being brave enough to try and make it work. Your Maman and I were really worried, Marinette, you didn't even know who he was and yet you put enough trust in him that this would be your happily ever after, finding out he was Adrien was the reward you both deserved for everything you've been through and matured with. You're both wonderful, successful people and the best parents to Emma. I'm honoured to have you as my daughter."
Moving forward, Marinette wrapped her arms around her father and squeezed him tightly to her, just like she did when she was a young girl and thought she could pick him up.
"I know this hasn't been easy for you and Maman, but thank you so much for supporting me, for supporting us. You have no idea what it means to both of us—especially Adrien."
"Are you ready Mrs Agreste?" Kagami's head appeared around the door as she made her way to her position in front of Alya and Emma.
Marinette nodded and took a deep breath. Her father met her cheek with one last gentle kiss before lowering her veil. This was it. She was about to marry Adrien Agreste in front of their friends and family, no Elvis impersonator in sight.
•••••
Adrien thought the Elvis impersonator might have been a little too much, but he wanted their song, the song from the night she told him she loved him, playing in the background, and who better than their singer from 'The Chapel 'O' Love'in Vegas.
Chat Noir had teleported the guy in and kitted him out with a 'Fu'sions designs top of the range suit, one he could keep and take home. The one condition the guy had was that his wife could come too and they got to spend a week in Paris; with all their expenses paid, plus flights home, they jumped at the chance. It just so happened Elvis' wife was a Céline Dion impersonator. It was too good to be true.
As Elvis began to croon some of his mega hits, in between Céline belting out a love song or two, Adrien took a deep breath. How could he still be nervous when they were already married, and had a child? It wasn't like she was just going to leave him there and then.
"You ready, dude?"
Nino greeted him with their usual display of brotherhood which included fist bumps and hand slaps.
"As ready as I'll ever be. Have you got the ring?"
"Safely in my pocket." Nino tapped the side of this dinner jacket and pointed towards the door. "I think they're ready."
Adrien turned his head noticing Kagami and Luka saying their goodbyes before Luka started making his way down the aisle towards himself and Nino, the latter preparing to swap positions.
Nino made his way up the aisle to complete his first assignment, reappearing with Sabine on his arm as he made his way back down the aisle and leading her to her seat, the woman looking the most happy and excited he'd ever seen; the beautiful dress designed and made by Marinette pulling her Chinese heritage to front and centre. She looked stunning.
"Ready?" their newly ordained friend asked.
Adrien nodded and turned his head to face the doorway. They'd agreed he could look at Emma but then had to turn away. She wanted a photograph of his first look, so it was agreed Nino would inform Adrien when she was halfway down so he could turn then.
The tears had already started to form and his chest clenched, his hand nervously playing with the ring sitting on his right hand, his left remaining empty.
All of a sudden the doors were opened, Emma appearing in the doorway with Alya, and that was it. A stream of tears flowed down his face faster than the water caressed the Seine, as his baby girl walked forward, unsteadily, holding the basket of flower petals - her godmother beside her.
Emma was dressed in a beautiful white dress with a pink sash delicately wrapping around her waist and segregating the dress into two halves. The top; long sleeves and lace, the skirt surrounding her tiny legs with layer upon layer of underskirt made her look even more adorable than ever. He noticed how her hair was already a complete mess, causing another round of tears to flow. His Princess was a scruffy kid and he adored her all the more for it. Even wearing the most beautiful of outfits Marinette had made her, she still looked a complete mess most of the time.
She sat down in the middle of the aisle, dumping her basket down and attempted to take her shoes off, the sound of laughter ricocheting over the music as Emma proceeded to take the basket and tip it upside down, grabbing a handful of petals and shoving them in her mouth.
"That's my girl," Nino said, dropping Emma a quick wave.
The small girl must have noticed the movement and attempted to stand only to trip twice over the layers of fabric around her waist. Alya rushed forward, grabbing Emma and placing her back onto her feet allowing the young one to try and run forward into the arms of her papa.
"Pa-pa! Pa-pa!" she yelled, stumbling over twice more before reaching the front, Alya on her tail.
Adrien scooped her up in his arms and placed a kiss to her cheek, his daughter laughing in response, before he turned them away from the door.
This was it. This was the moment. Nino turned his head to look at the door, giving Adrien the commentary that Kagami had just made it down to her place beside Alya.
Only one remained.
"Do you want me to have her?" Alya asked, arms out and reaching for Emma.
"No," Adrien said, "I'll keep her here for this bit."
Alya smiled and nodded before settling beside Kagami; Adrien's attention being drawn to Luka's gasp.
•••••
Marinette could hear the laughter and knew straight away Emma had done something. The squealed 'pa-pa' and awwww sound only cementing the fact in her head. She was smiling. So, so much, yet tears still made their way out of her eyes trying to ruin the wonderful creation Juleka had spent a good part of an hour on. She took a deep breath, her lip wobbling a little as she let it out, looking up to her papa for support.
The big man was crying too, maybe more than she was, and that's when she realised exactly how glad she was that Adrien had proposed again. She was glad her parents had gotten a chance to be part of this, her heart understanding how they must have felt that day she returned home from Vegas with an impressive ring on her finger; a ring she had missed since the day he stole it from her. Her thoughts of how she would feel if it was Emma stabbed her deep in her heart, but they were here now and she was sure it was going to be perfect.
She heard the song start up and let out an emotional laugh. Her husband was such a sap.
'Wise men say, only fools rush in.
But I can't help falling in love with you.'
They started the walk, Marinette clutching tightly onto her pink and white rose bouquet, the flowers surrounded by a blanket of gyp as they walked forward and over Emma's dumping of petals.
'Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?'
"Mama! Mama!"
She looked forward and noticed the back of Adrien's head as Emma pointed and attempted to crawl over her papa's shoulder. Marinette took her gaze from Emma's to Nino's, the smile on his face causing another stream of tears to leave her eyes, catching Luka's soft look only intensifying her emotions. They both looked at her as though she was an Angel, as if she was the first and most beautiful bride they'd ever seen, Alya and Kagami's own smiles and tears supporting the boy's theory. But nothing could prepare her for when Adrien turned his head.
'Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be'
He'd always looked at her with such passion and dedication that she never thought he could look more in love with her...that was until today. An uncontrollable noise left her mouth as she continued walking alongside her father, Adrien's face being the beacon of light to guide her.
As she watched her husband cry, aggressively wiping his tears and pressing kisses into Emma's hair, she could honestly say she'd never felt so powerful. No magical suit or lucky charm could match the way he made her feel, the way he always made her feel.
Nino slammed a hand down on Adrien's shoulder, giving him a little shake as he wiped his own tears away; his own smile enough to brighten the room, yet so overpowered by her charming husband's.
Marinette turned her head in greeting to those on the sides; her Nona, her Grandpère, her many collège friends and fellow heroes; a joyful and grateful smile spilling out to each and every one of them.
Sabine stood wiping her own tears away and reached for her granddaughter, biscuits and treats in hand ready to keep the small child occupied and out of mischief at least for the next few minutes. Her face met Marinette's and the older woman smiled with awe; another set of tears left Marinette's eyes before she settled back on her husband.
He'd watched her every movement, she could feel him looking her over, she could feel the warmth in her heart and the joy in her soul.
Finally, she'd arrived, Tom lifting her veil over her head and pressing a practiced kiss to her cheek. Adrien brushed profusely at the tears still cascading down his cheeks, his thumb and forefinger brushed the stray droplets away.
I love you, he mouthed before taking a tissue from Nino and sorting himself out.
They'd banned the press from this event; Alix taking the photographs and Alya writing an article which would be pushed on the TVi website — heavily edited, of course.
The room was full of heroes and villains— Nathalie sitting in the front row alongside Gorilla. Nobody was missing the absence of Gabriel Agreste, the once important part of Adrien's life, now forgotten and disposed of.
"Everyone please take a seat," Luka began, the sound of rustling behind her indicating everyone had begun to settle in. Turning to Alya, Marinette held out her bouquet before cupping her hands together and placing them at the front of her dress. "You are the donut of each other's lives—"
"Really? 'The Donut'?" Marinette laughed, looking at her friend.
"Listen, you gave me this job an hour and half ago, I'm running on song lyrics here. Anyway," he coughed and looked between the two lovers and out into the congregation. "Thank you all for coming today to celebrate the love between Marinette Dupain-Cheng —"
"Agreste. Marinette Agreste." Marinette corrected.
"Fine, Marinette Agreste and Adrien Agreste. Unfortunately none of us were around for the first time, and to make sure Nino got to deliver his much anticipated best man speech, here we are for Round number two."
Snickering sounded around the venue as Marinette and Adrien looked to Nino, both smiling as their friend wiggled his eyebrows.
"Everyone here, myself most certainly included, has been involved in the 'will they, won't they' love story of Marinette and Adrien; the most infuriating, yet romantic love story of our time. I remember back when we were teens and I knew how much Marinette loved and idolised a certain blonde hair model writing in her diary how Adrien Agreste would become her husband and they'd have a house, three kids and a hamster. That was also around the time I discovered both their secrets, on the same day...a mental breakdown ensued and continued right up to the moment I found out Marinette was pregnant with Emma and finally, finally they revealed themselves.
Even if their love story has been a long and winding road, one thing is for sure, people who are meant to be together always find their way in the end; just as these two did. Adrien's dream was a lady in red, Marinette's a lost boy in need of love; that was the dream ten years ago, and today we all get to witness that dream come true. Okay, Adrien."
Marinette was quite sure there wasn't a dry eye in the house, she was also sure nobody could have delivered a more perfect service for them. Whoever had poisoned their vicar deserved a gift basket.
"Marinette," Adrien began, stretching forward and taking her hands in both of his. His thumb nervously played along her knuckles. "I've loved you since the first time you stood up to Hawkmoth and threatened to kick his ass. I fell deeply in love with you the day you tried to drown me in the swimming pool and walk me home under the world's most malfunctioning umbrella. I tried many times to be your boyfriend—I never thought we'd skip that step and go straight to marriage, but I wouldn't want it any other way."
He turned behind him to Nino, taking her ring from his best man's hand. "And this ring and these words are just simply a way to show the rest of the world what has been in my heart since the day you fell from the sky and tangled me in your yo-yo. You're an Angel, M'Lady, but most importantly you're my Angel, you've gotten me through my darkest times and loved me without wanting anything in return. I love you...Marinette Dupain-Cheng-Ladybug-Agreste. I always have, and ... I always will."
He slowly pushed the ring onto her finger, her hands gripping tightly once it was back in its rightful place, though this time it had a partner in crime; her engagement ring; her 'something old' for the ceremony belonging to Adrien's mother. Marinette took a deep breath, taking Adrien's ring from Kagami and prepared to put it back in its rightful place.
"Adrien Agreste...We've been through so much together." Her voice was a whisper, but she knew any louder would be rattled with sobs, because she was barely holding herself together right now, her heart bursting with emotions unknown. She screwed her lips together before letting a deep breath out. "And despite how confused I've been or lost I might have gotten, there was always you; finding me and saving me."
Breathing out, she took Adrien's left hand and slipped the ring onto his finger; bringing his hand into her chest and holding it tightly between both of hers. "You deserve to be loved and adored. You deserve a real family and the life you dreamed of, so that's what we're going to give you, me and Emma." Marinette held back a sob as she attempted to finish her vows, but the emotion running through her was so pure, so absolute, she just couldn't hold back the tears. "We're going to adore you, Adrien Agreste, and make every single one of your dreams come true. I am so incredibly in love with you, My Kitty, and I always will be."
