Nothing Left to Say But Goodbye [21: Chocolate Kisses]
"Ugh!"
Silence.
"Ugh!"
Silence once more, followed by a slight sound of movement and finally, "Ugh!"
"Okay, what do you want?"
Chat Noir and Ladybug were sitting at the top of the Eiffel Tower waiting for the other holders to arrive. She was almost five months pregnant now and with only her parents, Alya and Luka knowing the full extent about the pregnancy and who the father was. The plan was to meet, bring them back to the apartment and reveal all; faces and everything.
To say Tom and Sabine were ecstatic would be an understatement, Tom's wording being something along the lines of 'my baby hit the jackpot.' When questioned further Tom did mention the fact Adrien was a superhero, NBA star, good at gaming and very handsome therefore their grandchild will have hit the genetic lottery... until Marinette had reminded him that the baby would also have some of her genes too.
They were now preparing for Paris' greatest sporting legend, who broke bones in pretty much every game they played; Sabine had mentioned how she had already started an emergency surgery fund.
Alya had screamed. Cried. Then screamed again. Then hugged Marinette; then had Adrien pull her off Marinette for squeezing her too hard, Adrien worrying that the reporter would pop the baby out of his wife right there and then (yes, he did know that was impossible but his anxieties were at an all time high.) Luka mentioned something about a new instrument rounding out their combined melody; and Adrien felt guilty that Nino didn't know anything.
Adrien had talked over everything with Marinette, yet there was nothing really to say. They were both extremely happy about the reveal and about who the other was, living in their own little bubble for the month after they found out she was pregnant so they could get used to each other in a complete way. Adrien was happy he could get her on bed rest for the month and, for once, she willingly accepted, after all her hot husband was going to be laying beside her.
She was feeling better than ever and was now looking after herself, including taking her prenatal vitamins which Adrien was in charge of forcing her to have; forced with love and the occasional threat, of course.
They hadn't found out the gender of the baby, wanting to keep it a surprise until the day of birth. After all, all the surprises they've had over the past year have been wonderful, and they were sure this one would be too.
They'd remained in the apartment feeling there was no immediate threat for them to move. Gabriel wouldn't have a reason to suspect them living there, not at the moment anyway. However, after speaking it through with Tom and Sabine, it was agreed they could purchase Roland's house which was yet to be put up for sale. Marinette's grandpa had recently moved to a new retirement complex in the centre of Paris, though getting him to move was a multi chapter story in itself, the guy almost having to be dragged from his home as he clung to the doorway. It was for his own safety though, and with Tom and Adrien's muscle power they managed to get him into his new apartment in a week. He wouldn't come out and blatantly admit it, but he was happy there, enjoying the way everyone agreed it was 'not how it's done'.
The day after Roland was out, Adrien moved contractors in; including the best security firm he knew (thank you Max Kanté) and in approximately three months their house will be ready for them, and their next new beginning will start, complete with a beautiful buttercup nursery complete with Adrien's baby blanket. It's amazing how quickly things get moving when you're rich and famous.
So here they are now, waiting to reveal to everyone else... and his wife groaning at him - not in the way he liked either.
"The baby's so hungry." Ladybug lay back on the cold rooftop, perching her hands on her (tiny) swollen stomach. She'd finally popped this week, and although the movements were not there for Adrien to feel just yet, she gave him great descriptions when it happened. He was highly jealous and even though Plagg teased him endlessly about it, Marinette didn't. She was kind and caring, and needy and, definitely, high maintenance. But who could blame her, she was growing a new member of the human race.
"The baby or you?" He asked back with a smirk.
"The baby," she cried dramatically, a hand going to her forehead. "Always the baby."
Chat leaned over and placed a gentle, loving kiss on his wife's forehead. "And what is the baby so hungry for?" He held himself up, hovering over her, his nose brushing along her neck and kissing her earring.
"Chocolate kisses," she said in a sultry voice.
Chat shot up and looked down at his wife slightly alarmed. "I - um - I thought, it was for the - I don't know if I feel comfortable with-"
Chat was interrupted from his stuttering by Ladybug's laugh. "Oh my God, not that you perv. I literally want chocolate kisses. You feral beast."
He visibly relaxed, glad she didn't mean what he had thought. He sat up, coughing once or twice to get out of his thoughts and back with his wife. His wife wanted literal kisses made from chocolate, chocolate kisses.
"Do you want me to go now? Or can you wait?" He asked.
"Hummm..." She placed her hand on her rounded belly and rubbed it in circles. "Now, because Maman is craving chocolate and if Maman ain't happy, nobody's happy." She smiled at him sweetly, one that changed her from an Angel to the devil and he knew he had no choice but to go.
"Fine," he moved his head down her body, ending with it near her belly so he could place a kiss to his unborn child. "You and Maman have already got me wrapped around your little finger."
He looked up to the gazed eyes of his wife, a rather unattractive sniff coming from her as she wiped the edge of her mask. "Sorry," she sniffed again, "it's just the hormones."
"Love you, Bugaboo."
"Love you too, Minou. Now go get Maman her snacks."
He pressed one last kiss on his wife, this time to her lips before standing and stretching. Popping his shoulders in the motion.
"So it is for you then, not the baby." He winked. "Don't start the fun until I arrive back," he said, unlatching his baton and preparing to set off in search of his Lady's contraband. He didn't know why she couldn't just wait until they arrived back at the apartment, where boxes upon boxes of the damn things were waiting. He was Amazon's favourite customer at the moment, and his Prime membership was getting a hammering all so his Ladybug could get her chocolate kisses.
Heading towards the corner store he knew sold them, he decided to go in as Chat Noir. It took too much time to drop the transformation and then wait for Plagg to whine before eating then whining again before transforming. It was easier to just stay as he was; get the kisses and head back. He was needy at the moment and hated leaving her, his protection level hitting an all time high.
The public were yet to know about the development of Adrien Agreste's love life; his contracts were still going through and he didn't need that publicity at the moment. With France being the 4th biggest basketball league in the world, he had to make sure his press dealings didn't interfere with what would hopefully be a great deal.
He landed down and walked into the store, greeting those who passed him with a salute and a smile. He made his way to the confectionary aisle before finding the kisses and grabbing four packs. He headed to the counter to get rung up and pay, but just as he unzipped his pocket to grab his cash a voice sounded behind him, turning his insides to ice.
"I'll get those, it's the least I can do."
Whipping his head around he came face to face with the one man he never wanted to see again. The one man who single handedly destroyed his childhood...luckily for Adrien his adulthood had come with an extra added bonus no thanks to his father.
"Absolutely not," Chat Noir said, handing over the money and taking the kisses. He knew everyone in the store was looking, after all this was Monarch out and powerless side by side with a Chat Noir who had recently been labelled as 'unhinged'.
Making his way out the store, Chat could hear the sound of footsteps following him down the pavement knowing full well who it would be behind him.
He turned into the closest alleyway and waited for his father to round the corner. Facing the entrance, he crossed his arms over his chest trying his hardest to steady his ever increasing nervousness. It had been two months and he'd managed to avoid this. He supposed it couldn't last forever.
"Why are you following me? I thought you would have realised by now that we're done. You're nothing to me anymore."
"Adrien," Gabriel tried to say, Chat Noir hissing in his fathers direction.
"Don't you dare call me by my name."
"You're still my son!" Gabriel shouted.
The two men froze as they stared into each other's eyes. Chat wouldn't give in, he would not back down to this man. Never again. It didn't just matter to him; he had a wife to look after and a baby on the way. He wasn't a teen wanting to win the affection of his absent father anymore, he was Adrien Chat Noir Agreste, and he was a badass.
"I will never be your son again, you gave up that right the moment you started terrorising Paris and going after my wife!" He stepped forward, finger raised and pointing into Gabriel's chest. The man no longer looked like the power villian of Paris, but the pathetic old man who'd lost everything.
"It's all her fault! Don't you understand that. The Ladybug who you adore is the reason your mother is six feet under. "
A sudden 'thwip' sound pulled his attention upwards, his wife falling from the sky and landing in front of him; his arm wrapping around her protectively as she stood facing him.
"Are you okay? You've been gone longer than I thought. The others are heading over to the apartment now."
"Ladybug," she jumped, turning around to come face to face with her joint winner for 'most hated person' (Lila Rossi also securely in that number one spot). "Aren't you going to give your father in law a hug?" Gabriel opened his arms out towards Ladybug, a shiver pulsating down his spine from the look in his father's eyes. The hatred was there and it was pure, terrifyingly evil.
"Why are you here? Why are you near him?" She stepped forward heading towards Gabriel Agreste, anger lacing her voice as determination took over.
"So you finally revealed yourselves? Bravo!" Gabriel started to slowly clap and it was at that moment crowds began to gather at the end of the alleyway, phones out and ready to gather what they guessed was a moment to sell to the press.
"What do you want?" Chat Noir stepped forward, blocking his father from getting anywhere near his wife. Venom! The only word to describe what was in Gabriel's eyes.
"I want to make amends." Gabriel said, his fists clenching at his sides, Chat feeling his blood pressure rising ready to snap.
"No! You don't get to make amends. You have no idea what you put Adrien through, what you put us through." Ladybug said, her voice hard and authoritative as she looped an arm around her husband's waist.
"You have no right to tell me who I can and can't talk to Bug!" Gabriel stepped forward, his hand fumbling in his pocket, his approach dead set on getting to Ladybug. "How dare you!" He pulled his arm out his pocket and moved it back, a build to something, only for Chat to notice the glint of light reflecting from the object. He had a knife in his hand.
"No! Cataclysm!" Calling on his power he pushed his hand forward simultaneously with Gabriel lowering the knife only for it to dissolve into ash, and crumble from Gabriel's hand.
"What is wrong with you?" Chat Noir shouted, "she's pregnant."
The gasped sounds richoted around the alleyway, as Chat suddenly remembered the crowds which had gathered, majority with now one of the biggest pieces of news Paris had had since they revealed they were married almost 10 months previous.
He couldn't help it. The anger at the situation just built up and he unwillingly let it out.
"Kitty," his Lady's voice sounded behind him, smooth and reassuring as her hand placed delicately onto his arm, bringing him back to her. "We should go, I don't want this looking bad on you." She didn't sound angry and for that he was thankful.
Chat Noir turned to look at her, noticing her face as ashen and her hand was protectively placed over her stomach. He moved towards her, pulling her into his chest and pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
"I promise you won't get away with this. Every person here has evidence of you attacking my pregnant wife! You'll be locked away for good this time, Gabriel, and I hope I can be there when they throw away the key."
Moving forward to the weak old man he used to call his father, his voice turned to ice. A tone threatening and anything but friendly. "You dare to come near us and I won't be responsible for what happens to you."
He held Ladybug tightly to his body, grabbing the baton from his lower back and launching them into the night sky; away from his father and finally free of the shackles restraining him from living life to its fullest.
•••••
Ladybug didn't know how to feel.
She was furious that Gabriel even had the decency to think about talking to Adrien, yet follow him and corner him. It was unacceptable in her eyes.
Then, Gabriel had tried to hurt her; her own father in law and their child's grandparent. She didn't know whether he wanted to inflict more damage than just hurt, an option she didn't ever want to consider.
Chat Noir had outed their news to about 30 nosey Parker's with iPhones and she was quite sure that #Babybugcats will be trending on Twitter right at this moment. Though the delivery of the news wasn't exactly preplanned, she was glad for the secret to be out. She was just about done with not being open, even if Alya was going to kill her for not giving the exclusive to the 'The Ladyblog'.
But most of all she was relieved. Relieved that Adrien had finally got to tell his father exactly how he felt, that after all these years Gabriel Agreste had firmly been put in his place.
Landing on their secluded balcony, they made their way into the apartment, Ladybug's baby brain well and truly kicking in as she stalked into the lounge area, Chat behind her and forgetting what she'd gone to originally get him for.
"I can't believe he had the decency to do that!" she screeched, moving into the kitchen and grabbing a glass to fill at the sink with water. She lifted it to her mouth and downed half a glass before going for seconds.
"I mean, I understand he's pissed off at us, we're not exactly happy with him either. But to attack me whilst I'm pregnant with his grandchild! I'm telling you now Adrien, I hate him. Your fathers a douch-" hands suddenly grabbed her shoulders and turned her sharply to look into the lounge.
Ladybug watched as Rena stood with a palm over her face, Carapace was gawking, King Monkey handed over a bundle of cash to Bunnyx and Viperion decided now would be the time to start strumming on his lyre; what was that? Perfect by Ed Sheeran?
Her eyes trailed from one face to another, seeing the shock and general uncomfortableness within the room only to sigh and call off her transformation.
"Hi everyone," she waved, "I'm Marinette Agreste and I'm Ladybug. Oh, and I'm also 20 weeks pregnant with Adrien's baby." She held one hand, directing attention to her husband, who was still suited, and placed the second on the petite bump showing through her maternity dress.
Silence encompassed the room, as Marinette saw the news sink in before Pigella, Purple Tigress, Polymouse and Vespira screamed and began to run over to her; Ryuko and Rena hanging behind. Before they could get close enough, Chat Noir stepped between them.
"If you want to hug my wife you're not doing it in your supersuits. No super strength near my baby."
The girls all squealed again, detransformed and ran to Marinette, wrapping her in their arms.
"I can't believe after everything, you two still ended up together. It's so romantic!" Rose squealed, jumping up and down holding Marinette's hands. She looked over at Chat Noir and smiled, his own in response and taking her breath away with it.
I love you, she mouthed, only for him to mouth the same back. She really was completely besotted.
A sudden roar came from near the sofa as all the guys ran towards Chat patting him on the back and shaking his hand. She was quite sure Carapace had grabbed his head and pressed a loud sloppy kiss on his cheek.
Everyone called off their transformations as congratulations and extra long hugs were shared between the group. The guys tenderly pressed kisses to her cheeks and took her into their arms, finally ending with the couple once again reunited with each other.
"How long have you known?" Luka asked, taking a seat at the breakfast bar as the others moved onto the sofa and floor.
"Just over a month," Marinette said, holding her hand up for Adrien to finally give her her damn chocolate kisses...it'd taken him long enough.
She thanked him with a kiss on the cheek, as he slotted in behind her on their lazy boy chair.
"That's crazy! So, you just decide to get married and have a baby without knowing who the other was?" Zoé asked, Adrien shrugging in response.
"When you've been through what we have, seeing a face is a low priority."
"But she could have been Chloé!" Adrien snorted at Myléne's exasperation.
"Yeah right. Everyone knew Chloé was once Queen Bee and almost wins for most akumatized person in the city, Mr Ramier only beating her a couple of times." He replied, unwrapping a chocolate for Marinette and placing it in her mouth.
"I think this is really sweet, everyone knows how mad you were for each other in Collège. I'm just amazed you're the first ones married though, and at only 21. My bet was always on Ivan and Myléne." Alya said, standing to grab a banana from the fruit bowl.
"We thought you and Nino," Ivan responded, only for everyone to start throwing in their pennies worth. Alix looked at her friends with a smug look on her face and prepared herself to add her own comments.
"No! You don't get a say in this! You knew!" Nino said, pointing at their tattoo'd friend, stopping her from speaking, only for Kim to gasp and try to grab his money back. He'd obviously forgotten what Alix's Miraculous was.
"I don't know what you mean?" she said innocently, only for an uproar to take place in the room, Kim finally returning to his seat, cash in hand.
Luka stood up and placed his fingers in his mouth to whistle, everyone stopping their chatter to turn and face him, a wide grin stretching his face in a very un-Luka way.
"I think I can speak for everyone here, when I say you two deserve all the happiness in the world. Not only do you put your lives on the line for us, but you do it with the person you love and cherish most in the world. I'm proud to call you both my friends. So I would like to raise a Hersey's Chocolate kiss," he began to throw them out around the room, "not only to the marriage of our wonderful saviours, but also to our best friends, and the little bundle of joy they're about to bring into the world." The resounding noise of cheers vibrated around the room, followed by the crinkling of foil.
A lot of grumbling sounds took over the joy and laughter, as people spat the chocolate back into the wrappers and ventured to the bin. Adrien laughed before taking his own and popping it straight into his wife's mouth, kissing her deeply once she'd finished eating. The lingering taste of the chocolate on her lips was the only time he could stomach the taste himself, the added flavour of Marinette the only thing appealing about it.
"And one more thing," Luka said, "I'm calling 'Godfather'." Before anyone else could respond, Nino launched himself over the sofa and towards Luka.
Apparently, Adrien and Marinette's first born was going to be a very tetchy conversation between their friends.
