Guilt

"Where is she?" Tom's voice boomed and Chat could feel his legs shaking.

"That's not important at the moment."

"Don't get catty with me, and tell me where my daughter is."

"Tom!" Sabine walked over, placing herself between the two men currently fighting for alpha male dominance.

"Welcome, Chat Noir. I take it you're here about Marinette?" Sabine eyed the hero in front of her, it had been a while since she'd been this close to him in his outfit. He'd grown substantially over the years and she could understand her daughter's affection for him. He was beautiful.

"I'm not here for an argument, I am here to talk and to let you know who I am. I understand your worry, and I am sure I would respond the same way if it was my daughter." As elegant as always, Chat put his point across, keeping his eyes firmly on Sabine and trying to not show the tremors of fear from Tom's glare.

"You've got some nerve! After everything you did!" Tom was borderline explosive, and Chat felt more terrified than facing an akuma.

"I promise, Sir, I can explain everything if you'll let me. Marinette does not deserve the way you treated her."

"And you don't deserve Marinette! I've seen you being all fancy with other women, hand kisses and bating your eyelashes. I don't trust you with her, so I suggest you tell us where she is." Tom wasn't giving Chat a chance to speak. The man was on a roll and he was determined to be heard. "You've come over before pretending to love Marinette only to tell us you love someone else! How can she trust you a second time? You're just going to leave her again, but this time probably with a kid and a mortgage. Oh my poor Marinette."

"Tom, you need to stop speaking, you're making a fool out of yourself." Sabine held her husband's wrists, firstly to stop him from punching a superhero and secondly to try and stop him from appearing more of an idiot than he already was.

"A fool? The only fool I'll be is if I let this womaniser marry our daughter!"

"Sir, I have only ever had one previous relationship before your daughter and that was when I was fourteen." Chat Noir attempted to placate his future father-in-law only to fuel the fire more.

"So you're a player! Can't hold down a steady relationship. You've probably got children running around all over Paris and they have no idea who their father is." Tom just kept on going, there was no stopping him now. Sometimes you just needed a vent, and right now he was making the most of this opportunity.

"I promise you Sir, I have never gone that far in a relationship. I have loved your daughter for years, as I know she loves me too. We know each other outside the masks, we're best friends."

"You loved Ladybug! Not Marinette!" Tom shouted, the volume of the sentence shaking the photo frames on the bookcase.

"Marinette is Ladybug you big goon!" Sabine had had enough. How could Tom not see what an idiot he'd been?

The guilt flooded over him. Yes he had a right to be upset, but the reasoning was all wrong.

"She's - she's - oh!" Tom's shoulders slumped, all anger and tension leaving his body.

"He loves her and she loves him. It's been this way for years. Now, Adrien-"

"What?" Tom yelped, "he's not Adrien. Adrien is just a friend."

Chat couldn't help but wince. Still a running joke after all these years, Alya was particularly fond of it.

"I guess the cat's out the bag." A bright light appeared, making Tom and Sabine cover their faces. For the second time in a day they'd seen a superhero transform.

"Holy mackerel!" Tom screeched, "what are you going to tell me next? Alya and Nino are heroes too?"

Adrien shrugged at Tom and Sabine, causing the large male to turn ashen.

"I'll be sitting in there if you need me." Tom turned and made his way to the sofa and collapsed, leaving Adrien just inside the doorway with Sabine.

"Tea?" She suggested. Adrien nodded and followed her to the kitchen. The room was filled with Tom's rambling, obviously he was speaking some home truths to himself. The guilt of the situation taking over.

"How did you know?" Adrien asked, seating himself at their kitchen table. He'd done this many times, but being here as the fiancé of their daughter had a whole new meaning. He was quite sure if this didn't go well the wedding would be off.

"The day she overdosed, you were so caring and protective of her I knew there was more to it. You're soulmates Adrien, but I'm not going to stand here and say I'm happy about what the two of you have decided to do. You didn't know each other under the masks, and I'm guessing you've only just figured out who each other are too." Adrien knew he was having a telling off, it had been years, but here he was an almost twenty-three year old being told off by his mother in law.

"I'm sorry, I really am. We just made a deal when we were eighteen and it seems we both wanted to go through with it. If I had known she was Marinette I would have come straight here to ask for her hand in marriage. She's not wearing the ring yet, you see, I'm going to propose again. I wanted the ring on her hand not on the suit."

Sabine nodded, her face showing some sort of impressed expression. Perhaps this was going to go ok?

"But I love her and I intend to marry her, with or without your blessing."

Sabine stared at the young adult in front of her. She was fond of Adrien, the kid had been through a lot yet she could tell in this moment the love he had for their daughter was special. The love he had meant he was never going to leave her side. She turned around and began to make their tea, pulling cups from the cupboard and the teapot from the stove. She placed his cup beside him and let her hand linger on the handle. Marinette had brought this one especially for Adrien. Once she'd gotten comfortable around him, Adrien was a regular visitor. He'd hang out with Marinette, and also play games with them as a family. He was already part of the family, he already meant so much to them all.

Letting go of the handle, she grabbed her own and Tom's making it over to the sofa and settling beside her husband. He was still rambling, hands flinging around in some sort of in depth conversation with himself. Adrien sat opposite both of them on a foot rest and waited. One thing he'd learned from his media training, let them speak first. He took a drink out of his mug, one sugar, and little milk. Just the way he liked it.

"Tell me everything." Tom was first to speak, obviously he hadn't been there when he'd spoken to Sabine, so Adrien retold the story, starting from the grand age of thirteen and when they received their Miraculous'.

He explained how they met for the first time in both forms, how he vowed to love whoever was under the mask, the umbrella, the lucky charms, his love for Marinette equalling that to Ladybug, the proposal to propose, everything. Finally, he landed when he figured out it was Marinette, and how his life seemed to have completed in that moment. The happiness and joy of his heart after the complete disbelief had passed.

"So you're getting married?" Tom asked.

"Yes, in exactly ten days."

"And everything is what she wants?" Sabine chipped in.

"No expenses spared, well apart from the cake. We're still waiting to hear back from her favourite bakers about whether they can make it or not."

Tom and Sabine looked at each other in a silent conversation.

"We wouldn't miss it for the world."

Adrien smiled, unsure whether he should give them a hug or not. Sabine moved first though m, wrapping him into her arms.

"I'm really glad it's you." She said, before handing the hero off to her husband. Adrien held a hand out to shake Tom's only to be met with the man pulling him into a bear hug.

"Thank you." Adrien responded before sitting back down.

He looked over at the Dupain-Cheng's thinking how amazing it would be to say they're his family, and in only a few days that would be his new reality. He grabbed a pen and paper from their bookcase and wrote down an address.

"This is our home address. I have already added you to the welcome list and Marinette will be staying here whilst she heals, I will be moving in with her after the wedding. Her kwami is already making good progress and she should be out of the cast in a few days."

Tom took the paper from him and placed it in his trouser pocket. Adrien was sure they'd go straight there once he'd left. He'd make sure he took his time with buying the take out, and gathering additional supplies.

"I told her I would grab some things for her."

"I'll go and load up her suitcase." Sabine walked up into Marinette's room leaving the two men alone.

"Sir, whilst you're on your own I would like to ask you a question."

Tom smiled obviously knowing what was coming next.

"Please may I have your daughter's hand in marriage?"
