Clown

"Hey, Marinette, wait up." Adrien jogged down the corridor to catch up with his petite friend.

"Adrien? Is everything ok?"

"Yeah, everything's fine." He stood staring at her smiling.

"O-K?" She replied, tilting her head in curiosity. "Is there something you need?"

Adrien blinked, removing himself from the trance he was in. Why was he staring at her like a complete idiot?

"Oh, sorry. Yeah," he placed his hand behind his neck in the nervous twitch she'd grown so fond of all those years ago. She was head over heels in love with Chat, but a part of her would always love Adrien, only as a good friend, of course.

Marinette raised her eyebrows, edging Adrien to continue. What was up with him today?

"Nathalie's given me these," he held up two tickets.

Reading the name of the event, Marinette gasped and dropped the files she was holding, snatching the tickets out of Adrien's hands. He began to laugh at her reaction. He knew she'd love it.

"Cirque du Soleil! Where did you get these? They've been sold out for months, if not years!"

"Do you want them?" He asked.

"Oh, Adrien!" She dived into him, wrapping her arms around his neck and placing a kiss on his cheek. "Yes, please! Are you sure you don't mind?"

Her reaction took him off guard, and his face began to glow with a warm, pink tinge. After a couple of seconds of just standing there like a statue, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his body.

"I couldn't make the date, I have plans already, but I knew it was something you always wanted to see."

He placed his face in her hair and couldn't help but feel comforted by the familiar scent. Too familiar, his mind plagued him.

"Oh that's a shame. This is meant to be amazing."

"Yeah, I really wanted to see it too. But my friend and I have planned to do something on the same night and it's their choice, unfortunately." Adrien explained, as Marinette studied the date on the tickets.

Two nights from now was her and Chat's date night. Luckily, it was her turn to choose what they were doing and this was perfect.

Cirque du Soleil was about to have two very famous visitors.

"Get out of town," Chat shouted, a little louder than intended.

"Do you want to go?" Ladybug asked, a wide grin spreading across her face. Her eyes sparkling like the lights currently dancing around on the Eiffel Tower

"Hell yes!!! I was almost going but I could only get tickets for tonight and didn't want to cancel our date." He wrapped Ladybug up in his arms, when suddenly a thought came into his head. He wondered if he'd see Marinette? Would she have brought someone with her? She'd never mentioned anything but he was sure she had a boyfriend. After all, who wouldn't want Marinette? He suddenly felt a little uncomfortable, if Marinette did have a boyfriend why hadn't they met him yet? What if he wasn't good enough?

"Let's go then Chaton," joining hands, they made their way to the venue. Ladybug pulling a thoughtful cat behind her.

As they landed in front of the entrance, hushed voices could be heard all around them.

What are Ladybug and Chat Noir doing here?

Are they on a date?

Is Papillon here?

I hope they're sitting next to us, I have a great idea to help them fight akumas.

After the shock of seeing the two heroes wore off, the crowds began to panic. Could there be an akuma nearby? As people began to scramble around, Chat extended his baton, placing himself on top of the pole.

"Everyone, please listen. There's no akuma here. Myself and M'Lady are here for the same reason as all of you, we just want to enjoy a night out at the circus. A night of acrobatics and clowns. Ignore us, and have a wonderful evening."

The crowd, which had stopped to listen, breathed a collective sigh of relief, as did Ladybug. Lowering down next to her, Chat offered his elbow which she took without hesitation.

"To the circus?" He announced.

"To the circus." She replied.

The seats Adrien had given her were good, she'd checked before leaving her apartment. However, as soon as they were spotted, an arena manager escorted them to ringside. They could have been in the rafters, for all she cared, and she'd have been excited, but this was incredible she couldn't control herself. She'd wanted to see this for years, she couldn't believe Adrien had remembered. Sitting down, she let out a little happy noise and did a little dance. Chat smiled as he noticed her cute quirk.

"What's causing the happy hip shake?" Chat asked, as he took the seat next to her and called over one of the concession vendors.

"I'm just so excited to be here. The seats I had were very good, but this is incredible."

"So how did you get the tickets then, LB? They've been sold out for months, did you use your Miraculous' lucky charm, or just your purr-tty face?"

Ladybug burst out laughing.

"How do you think this stuff up, Kitty?" These moments when he was clowning around always made her laugh, and when there was no akuma attempting to attack them, he was all the more fun.

"I've got a lot of skills."

"Oh, really? Please tell me more." She smiled widely at him and wiggled her eyebrows. Leaning into her ear, his hot breath sent a shiver down her spine.

"I'd be better off showing you."

Ladybug let off a tiny squeal as Chat moved back into his seat guffawing.

"Chat, you can't say things like that out in public?" She hissed, smacking his incredibly hard bicep.

"Why not? No one can hear me, and you are my fiancée after all." Ladybug's face went red, quickly she turned her head to look away. "Are you ok? Ladybug?"

She turned back and looked over at her blonde haired, green eyed partner. He'd aged amazingly well, growing into his height and bulking out. His hair was shorter, tamer and his jawline was incredible. It was her favourite part of him to touch.

"I'm still getting used to us I suppose."

Chat's heart dropped, he'd pushed too much. It was too much too quickly and she was going to leave him.

"I know what you're thinking and stop it. I do not regret this and we're not moving at a speed I'm uncomfortable with. It's just ..." she looked down at her hands.

"Just?"

"You know?"

"No I don't, that's why I'm asking." The popcorn vendor finally made it over, handing Chat a box and telling him it was on 'the house'. Of course, Chat being the wonderful human he is, not only shoved the money for the popcorn at the vendor but also added a rather generous tip.

"Stop flashing your money around." Ladybug said, as the lights began to dim.

"I will when you tell me what's wrong."

Ladybug caught the movements of two trapeze artists wrapped around each other as they swung from one end of the arena to another. They were beautiful. Fluid, soft, in sync. He threw her and caught her, so much trust between these two people. She looked to her own partner next to her to find he was staring, not at the trapeze but at her. Her trust in this male was beyond anything. She thought back to the two artists currently pulling 'oh's and 'ah's from the crowd knowing they always managed similar reactions from the crowds watching them fight akumas. Why was she scared to tell Chat what he wanted to know?

Reaching out she took his hand in her own, giving it a quick squeeze before leaning into his ear.

"I wish I could kiss you right now," she said.

"Only a couple of months to go and you can kiss me anywhere at any time."

"I can't wait to marry you, you mean everything to me. It's all just so new, I still can't quite get my head around it. I'm happy though, the happiest I've ever been."

They both sat smiling at each other, comfortable in their close proximity. But it wouldn't last forever. Suddenly the lights in the arena hit full beam as a giant clown landed in the middle of the stage.

People around them began to scurry, as the clown reached out and grabbed a man with headphones on.

"I am Chuckless the Clown, and I am here to prove why you shouldn't have fired me. I am the greatest clown in all of France." As Chuckless came to the end of his speech, he pressed a pump, causing a waterfall to cascade from the flower on his breast pocket. As it landed on a group of unsuspecting tourists, they became a spray of confetti, spreading across the ground.

"This isn't good." Chat announced as they stood up ready to take action. He was quite sure that at some point this evening he was going to become a cheap imitation of a party popper.

"Keep a lookout for where the akuma might be, and try not to get hit." With that Ladybug was gone. Swinging her yo-yo and heading towards the now vacant trapeze.

As Chat went to launch himself, he froze. Turning around he looked for the seats allocated to his civilian self and where Marinette should be sitting. A bolt of fear shot through him as an explosion of confetti appeared from the exact seats he was looking for. The stakes had risen and there was no way this akuma was going to win; after all he needed to save his Princess.
