For a tale do I tell

in a long ago once
lived a man
a fellow of no consequence
sun- scorched wind- worn
he toiled from morn
longer
in the long winter's dark

he fought in the war
to end all wars
never spoke
of ill consequence

he loved a woman
and loved her children
toil
manifested his heart 
never hard word
ever was heard
from this man of no consequence

a neighbour of gold
a friend in the cold
and never too old
to laugh
with eyes that spoke
that lighted the world

 
in the long ago once
lived a man youth- bold
loved a man with a heart
of manifest consequence
