A Magical Snowflake

A Magical Snowflake

I remember last night; when it was Christmas Eve, and how I stood on the front porch watching the snow fall, thinking about all the things that happened during this year. How fast time goes by-It's really amazing now that I think about it. You see, most people live from one day to the next; so much happens in just one week, or month...and later on, a lot of times we forget those little things. Time sure flies differently for everyone. "And now, it's time for another year to begin." I hummed to myself while turning away from watching a snowflake land at my small pear tree just ahead. The sight was a little unusual to me; it had a sort of bluish tint to it. It was very beautiful...special, even.

Now it's Christmas morning, 7am. I rise and stretch, then head downstairs to grab my cup of coffee. The neighbors' children are loud with excitement as they open their presents. I smile in surprise. Well I wonder what they got! When I'm finished stirring my coffee, I decide to put some whipped cream on it and then step outside for a breath of fresh winter air. Not but a second later, my neighbor's child Billy bursts out of his family's house in his pajamas, holding a toy airplane up in the air. He quickly glances at me and smiles wide. "GOOD MORNING! MERRY CHRISTMAS!" I raise my mug at him, smiling back. "Merry Christmas Billy." He bows his head at me and continues playing with his airplane. I chuckle at the bright, joyful glint in his eyes. He finally got that toy airplane he's asked for all year. Contently, I take a deep breath and look at my pear tree. Something catches my attention right then; the snowflake-it's still there, and think I saw it flash a few small sparkles. "What's this? How odd..." I gently set my mug down on the porch handrail and walk to it. Carefully taking it in my warm hands, I realize after a moment...it doesn't melt-Nor does it fall apart. I look deeper into it. A sort of excitement builds up inside me as I see within the sparkles, different things happening in my life-great, truly amazing things; I can see dreams I've had for a long time coming true, I can hear genuine, cheerful laughs, and I feel warmth and completion filling my heart and soul. I blink in astonishment; the small flake is carried away by a sudden breeze. My eyes follow it as I slowly stand and brush off the snow. I have just seen something utterly miraculous... No wonder why I thought it was unusual! What a magical Christmas this is!
