Chapter 8

A canopy of light passed through the solitary window in the room, falling on the children sleeping on the cot. Rather, it was the cry of a white heart-shaped face owl with a white chest with small brown spots. The owl stared at them from it's position, flapping it's tiny wings and flying away when it was satisfied at waking up it's hosts.

Madhav shook his sister awake, who yawned and sat up. Slowly, the events of the previous day dawned upon them.

"We have lots of work to do." Medhavi reminded him. "Do you think we could get brushes or something?" She added.

"I believe so. The bag you took was our usual traveling bag. Maa always leaves an extra pair each in case we forgets." Madhav assured her.

"We need food too." Medhavi told him when he returned from the bathroom. "We need to make this place livable after that. We've got great work to do today."

Madhav nodded at her. "I'll go around the house, check if there are any eatables growing, and anything else we need." He replied.

"I'll check for something like a broom to clean this place a little bit." Medhavi replied.

They set out to work. Madhav stepped outside the house, taking in everything. Now that it was day time, everything was much clearer. There was a slight mango tree on the front and a few other fruit trees nearby. There were enough leaves too. That will do for today. He made a vessel from the larger leaves and collected fruits lying around in it.

He walked further when a small piece of paper caught his sight. He picked it up, dusting it. It was a letter. He read the address nearly dropped it out of shock. Staring at him were the words,

'Mr M Kalakaat
Abandoned House, Street 44
12 Copper Nickels
Surrey
374926'

As soon as he got out of his initial shock he carefully placed the vessel on the ground and looked around, whether there was another letter. Surely enough, there was another one, with the Hogwarts seal plastered on it.

"Dii!" He yelled at the top of his voice.

"Dii, get over here it's important." He yelled again.

"Quit screaming like a banshee, Madhu! I'm coming." shouted Medhavi from inside.

After a few minutes, she arrived, panting slightly.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Our Hogwarts letter!" Madhav told her excitedly. It was the dream of every Potterhead to get a Hogwarts letter after all. If only the circumstances were different.

His sister's face bloomed into a brilliant smile.

"Guess we're going there after all. We could use the galleons uncle gave yesterday. We'll go to Diagon Alley in the evening." She chirped.

Madhav nodded, beaming. His first Hogwarts letter. His own Hogwarts letter.

They sat down to eat their food with a brilliant smile, dreamily, almost bouncing on their seats. The journey had begun.
