Chapter Thirteen: It's Time to Party
Hermione and Draco sat awkwardly in their practice room, flipping through sheets of music. Draco glanced over at the piano, where Hermione quietly sorted pieces. She didn't meet his eye. He sighed and looked back down at the piece he was holding. Hermione glanced over as he sighed, her heart twisting guiltily. She hated this silence between them, although she knew it was all her fault. She had turned him down, through song nonetheless. How was she supposed to get him back now?
He probably never wants to speak with me again, she assumed.
She searched her head, trying to focus her thoughts on something else. The rest of Gryffindor House was having a party tonight, to celebrate their success at the Ministry. She knew that Harry and Ginny would force her to go. Rumor had it that some people from other houses were even being let in. Hermione sighed. The last thing she wanted to do right now was go to a party. All she really wanted was to have things between her and Draco back the way they were. Before she had screwed everything up. Draco started to hum softly, but in the silent room it was easy to hear him. Hermione's eyes widened as she recognized the song. It was Come What may, from Moulin Rouge. She wasn't sure why, but it felt to her that if he was humming that song, out of anything else in the world, then maybe there was a chance to make things right. Ron was still an obstacle, but she honestly didn't care anymore if she could get Draco back.
"Draco?" she began, breaking the silence.
"Oh, it's still Draco. I assumed you had gone back to calling me Malfoy." He said snarkily. Her face flushed, but she refused to let him get to her.
"I'm sorry." she admitted apologetically, throwing him off guard. "I thought that backing off would be better, but I was wrong. It just made everything more miserable than ever." Her words hung in the air.
"Are you saying you want to start over?" he asked.
"Yes." There was a pause.
"Well, I suppose that's what we agreed on when we first walked in here." he insisted. "It'd be a shame to back out on that now."
"Well?"
"Well what?"
"Do you forgive me?" Draco thought for a moment, a smirk falling over his face.
"I'll forgive you if you do something with me that's completely outside your comfort zone." she teased. Hermione pondered his words and then stared at him.
"Fine." she agreed. "Wanna go to a party?"

The Gryffindor Common Room was in chaos by the time night arrived. The couches and table had been shoved against the wall to create a dance floor, and the entire house was going crazy. Music was blaring out of speakers and someone had set off Weasley brand indoor fireworks. Even a few patronuses were present, zipping around the room as if they too were partying. Dean Thomas stood on a table in the middle of the room and popped a shaken bottle of champagne, spraying the crowd with it just as Hermione and Draco walked in. Draco examined the screeching crowd in awe.
"Wow," he admitted. "And here I thought Hufflepuff was the party house." Hermione grinned.
"Trust me, they are. But Gryffindor is a close second." She glanced at Draco. "Do Slytherins not party like this?"
"We're a bit more.... dignified." Draco explained. "In a crazy dare that wasn't thought through all the way kinda scene."
"Ah, I get it." Shouts went up in the crowd as the song on the speakers switched and everyone chanted along to the song.
"TONIGHT WE ARE VICTORIOUS!" they sang as Dean let loose another bottle of Champagne. "CHAMPAGNE POURING OVER US! ALL MY FRIENDS WERE GLORIOUS, TONIGHT WE ARE-"
"VICTORIOUS!" Dean screamed, letting everyone else cheer. Using the empty bottle of champagne as a microphone, he started to sing. "Double-bubble disco queen, Headed to the guillotine, Skin as cool as Steve McQueen- Let me be your killer king-"
"Care to dance?" Draco asked, holding out a hand. Hermione smiled.
"I'd love to." she insisted, leading Draco out to the dance floor. As Dean kept singing, Seamus retrieved the other empty Champagne bottle and climbed on the table, singing along with him.
"It hurts until it stops, we will love until it's not
I'm a killing spree in white, eyes like broken Christmas lights My touch is black and poisonous
And nothing like my punch-drunk kiss
I know you need it, do you feel it?
Drink the water, drink the wine!"
"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July
Until we feel alright
Until we feel alright!"
"I'm like a scarf trick, it's all up the sleeve
I taste like magic, waves that swallow quick and deep
Throw the bait, catch the shark, bleed the water red
Fifty words for murder and I'm every one of themMy touch is black and poisonous
And nothing like my punch-drunk kiss
I know you need it, do you feel it?
Drink the water, drink the wine!!"
"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July....." The rest of the party joined in as Dean dived into the crowd. "Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious!
Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious!"
"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July
Until we feel alright
Until we feel alright!!"
Draco and Hermione joined in with the rest of the crowd as they screamed the lyrics.
"TONIGHT WE ARE VICTORIOUS, CHAMPAGNE POURING OVER US, ALL MY FRIENDS WERE GLORIOUS- TONIGHT WE ARE VICTORIOUS!!!!"
Cheers echoed the common room, drowning out Hermione's laughter. Draco smiled at the sight of her. It was nice to see her so carefree and happy. His smiled faded slightly as he caught sight of Ron in the corner of the room, glaring at them. The Weasley's eyes were dark with rage, but he silently left the room, heading up the stairs to his dorm. Draco watched him leave, cautious at the man's obvious fury. But then Hermione tugged on his arm, snapping him back to reality for another dance.
