Broken Down

Keira and I lurched forward, banging my head on the seat in front of us. Keira had the right idea, somehow, before anything happened, she had curled up. Man, she was good at predicting things before they happened.

"Are you okay?" Keira asked me quietly.

I nodded my throbbing head, the pain slowly leaving me. She looked towards Joshua and I turned to face him.

"Are you okay?" She said as she got up.

He didn't respond and she walked over and got on her knees to face him. " Hey, I'm talking to you, are you okay?"

"Oh, just a little bruise, nothing I can't handle." He said rubbing his head.

I stared and watched as Keira got up and looked towards the front. She seemed to be thinking about what just happened. I got up and stood beside her, but it wasn't long before she marched up to the front to the bus driver.

"Sir? Are you okay?" She said as she looked at the driver.

"I'm fine, sorry about that," He got up and headed down the bus steps. "I think the bus broke down,"

I walked towards Keira, feeling a presence behind me. Probably Joshua. She looked at both of us and shrugged.

"Looks like we're stuck here for a while," she said as she sat in one of the seats.

"Hey, kids, mind getting off the bus?" Came a yell from the other end of the bus, "Might have to call for some repairs and for another ride for you three youngins,"

Keira shrugged, got up and went to get her bag and jacket which had just been sitting there. She grabbed my bag and Joshua's.

Joshua followed Keira, "Here, let me-" Joshua was cut off.

"I'll take them," She walked past both of us and out the door, but not completely, turning to us she said. "Aren't you coming?" She put down the bags in her hands on the ground, at least I think so, because she came back in empty handed.

"You can't stay in here forever." She said as she walked back down the steps, waiting for us.

I shrugged and followed her out. Turning back I called to him, "Come on, let's go,"

"Hey," Joshua grabbed my arm.

I rapidly turned to him, "Hey," I replied, looking down at his arm and mine.

"Thanks," He replied. We stepped closer, I looking into his eyes, his into mine. "I appreciate the help,"

I nodded, as if saying, yeah, no problem. I felt him let go of me, I was relieved but unhappy at the same time. I liked it when he held me, but I was relieved because thank goodness I don't have to worry about being a klutz.

I turned back around just in time before I hit the stairs. I turned and walked down towards Keira.

"Here you go," She said handing me my bag, watching the steps for Joshua, but he never came.

"Joshua?" I said, "Joshua?" I dropped his bags, but left the one I had on, on. I walked into the bus. "Joshua....?."

I walked in towards the middle and looked into each aisle. I slowly went through until I reached the row that was 5 away from the back.

"Joshua! Are you okay?" I hurried to him, but I didn't know what to do.

He was holding his head, it must've really hurt. I sat beside him and put my hand on his arm, shaking it vigorously.

"Joshua, can you hear me? Can you hear me?" I repeated over and over again.

It took awhile, but finally, he nodded. He could hear me. My mind calmed slightly, but my heart was racing. I remembered that I was still carrying my bag. I took it off and looked in for a bottle.

"Here, have this," I gave him one of my bottles, I hadn't drank from it yet, and it was my last one. He needed it more than I did though.

"No, I'll be... okay," He managed to sputter out.

"Take it," I handed it to him and he tried to push it away, but I wouldn't let him. He finally gave in.

"Th-Thanks," I nodded and he handed the bottle back, but I didn't take it, he kept it.

"What happened?" I asked as I stood up to sit more comfortably.

"I... I don't know, I think it's cause I hit my head really hard on the window," He replied as he started to stand.

I helped him up and we walked out the bus. We walked down the stairs and there Samara was, waiting with his things but the moment we came out, I holding him steady, she placed everything down and helped us out.

"Do we need to call a doctor?" She asked as we let Joshua sit down on the grass.

I shrugged and looked towards him, he shook his head, but something about that told me that we might as well.

"Call the doctor, don't want him to give us another scare," I nodded and watched as Samara pulled out her phone.

I chuckled as I watched her gush over her screen. It was one of her favourite stars, that I didn't know, it was a k-pop star I believe. But I wouldn't know, I wasn't into that kind of stuff.

"Don't keep him waiting Samara," I said as I let out a small laugh.

"I don't need it," Joshua said, but I knew he'd easily give in if I told him more, but I didn't want him to hurt himself trying to win an argument with me.

"You say that Joshua, but I don't trust it, we're calling whether you like it or not," I turned away from him and listened in as Samara dialed a doctor.

I felt bad for turning him down just like that, but what else was I supposed to do, let him go home with an ache in his head and for all I know, be terribly hurt?

I heard him sigh and I could sense him leaning back, maybe laying in the grass. I turned around and sat beside him.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay, but it's for your safety," I said as I pulled my knees up. I set my hands back, so I could lean back without tipping over.

"I know, hey I never caught your name," He said to me, "and you know me how?"

"I think you know exactly what my name is, and I know you because I do two things. I observe people as well as you're in my class,"

"Keira?" he questioned, making sure that he did know my name.

I nodded smiling as I looked at him.

I looked into his eyes, his into mine. For some reason, our gaze never broke. Why? I didn't know why. The smile on my face faded to a small half smile. Mine the same. We stared for what seemed like forever, but really it was only a few minutes.

"Uh guys?" Samara's hands were waving in front of both of us.

I whipped my head towards her and whipped the hair away from my face. "Yes?"

"I called my doctor, they said we should just take him to the closest clinic." Samara replied as she put her phone in her overall pocket.

"Well, where would that be?" I asked and paused, "He does know we can't drive right?"

I got up and looked at the bus driver who at the moment was talking with some other guy, someone who was working on the bus I think.

"Hey, um, we're just gonna go, good luck with the bus," I said as I walked over to him.

He nodded and waved us away. I shrugged and walked back. Joshua had gotten up and was being held up by Samara, looks like it'll be a trek back.

"You sure you'll be good?" Samara asked as she tried to balance him.

I got his arm to go around my shoulders. "He'll be fine, we're here," I smiled and we went walking.
