Chapter 6: The World Knows
Jimin’s heart pounded as he sat on the edge of his bed, staring at his phone screen. His face was all over the internet—pictures of him and Jungkook holding hands at the rooftop café had gone viral. Headlines like "CEO Jungkook Spotted on a Date with Mystery Florist" flashed across multiple news sites, and the comments section was filled with speculation about who he was.
His hands trembled as he dialed Jungkook’s number. The phone barely rang twice before Jungkook picked up.
"Hey, Jiminie!" Jungkook’s cheerful voice came through, completely unaware of Jimin’s panic. "Miss me already?"
Jimin’s voice shook as he spoke. "Jungkook… we’re all over the internet."
There was a pause on the other end. "What do you mean?" Jungkook asked, still calm.
Jimin inhaled sharply, trying to steady himself. "The photos from Saturday. Us at the rooftop café. They’re everywhere. Reporters took pictures of us, and now... now everyone’s talking about me, about us."
Jungkook was silent for a moment before Jimin heard a soft chuckle on the other end of the line.
"Why are you laughing?" Jimin asked, his voice tense with worry. "This isn’t funny, Jungkook!"
"I’m sorry," Jungkook said, still chuckling. "It’s just... I didn’t think this would freak you out so much."
"How could I not freak out?" Jimin exclaimed, pacing around his room. "I’m not used to this kind of attention. People are asking who I am, speculating about our relationship. What if they dig into my personal life? What if this affects your career?"
"Jimin," Jungkook said softly, his tone more serious now. "I already told you, didn’t I? I don’t mind people knowing about us. In fact, I want them to know. I want the world to know that I have someone special in my life."
Jimin paused, biting his lip as he tried to process Jungkook’s words. "But... what if this gets out of hand? What if they start harassing me, or you?"
Jungkook’s voice was steady, reassuring. "Hey, listen to me. I don’t care what people say. You’re important to me, and I’m not ashamed of that. If anything, I’m proud to be seen with you. I knew this could happen when I asked you out on that date, and I’m okay with it. You mean more to me than some headlines or gossip."
Jimin sat back down on the bed, his heart still racing but starting to calm at Jungkook’s words. "I just... I didn’t expect this. I didn’t think people would care so much about who you’re dating."
"Of course they care," Jungkook said with a smile in his voice. "I’m dating the most amazing florist in the world. How could they not?"
Despite his anxiety, Jimin couldn’t help but laugh softly at Jungkook’s teasing. "You’re ridiculous."
"Maybe," Jungkook said, "but I’m serious about this, Jimin. I want you to feel comfortable, but I also want you to know that I’m not hiding you. You’re a part of my life now, and I’m happy for people to see that. I’ll handle the reporters, and if it gets too much, we’ll deal with it together."
Jimin sighed, feeling the tension in his chest slowly start to ease. Jungkook’s calm and confidence made him feel safer, more grounded. "Okay," he said quietly. "But... what if people start prying into my life? My shop, my personal stuff…"
"I’ll protect you," Jungkook said firmly. "I’ll make sure nothing gets out of hand. If it gets too overwhelming, we can figure something out. But for now, let’s not worry too much about what could happen. Let’s focus on the fact that I’m with someone I care about, and I’m not afraid of the world knowing that."
Jimin smiled, feeling warmth spread through him at Jungkook’s words. "You really don’t care about the attention?"
"Not even a little," Jungkook replied. "As long as I’m with you, I don’t mind what people think or say. Let them talk. I’m happy, and I want you to be happy too."
Jimin let out a long breath, feeling the last of his panic fade away. "Okay. I’ll try not to worry too much."
"Good," Jungkook said. "And remember, you can always call me when you’re feeling overwhelmed. I’m here for you, Jimin. Always."
Jimin’s heart swelled with gratitude. "Thanks, Jungkook. I don’t know what I’d do without you."
"You’ll never have to find out," Jungkook said softly. "Now, why don’t we make some plans for this weekend? Maybe a date somewhere with fewer reporters this time?"
Jimin chuckled, finally feeling at ease again. "Yeah, that sounds good."
And just like that, Jungkook’s calm reassurance made everything feel a little less scary. Jimin knew that as long as they were together, they could handle whatever came their way—whether it was reporters, headlines, or anything else.
