Chapter 18: The Shattering of Hope

Jungkook bolted down the hospital hallway, heart pounding in his chest. His pulse raced as the piercing screams echoed through the halls. His mind was frantic, and he knew without a doubt—Jimin had woken up.

The screams, filled with raw anguish, tore through him as he reached the door to Jimin’s room. With trembling hands, he flung the door open and was met with the heart-wrenching sight of his husband thrashing on the bed, screaming in a voice thick with pain.

“Jimin!” Jungkook cried, rushing to his side.

Jimin’s eyes were wild, red from crying, and filled with a kind of devastation that tore Jungkook apart. He had found out. Somehow, in the moments of waking, Jimin had felt the emptiness where their child once was. He knew the truth without anyone needing to tell him.

Jungkook’s heart broke all over again, seeing the love of his life in this state. He had dreaded this moment, but now it was worse than he could have ever imagined. Jimin wasn’t just crying; he was breaking, every sob like a dagger through Jungkook’s chest.

“No… no…” Jimin choked out between sobs, clutching his stomach as if trying to hold onto what was no longer there. “Our baby... our baby…”

Jungkook’s hands shook as he knelt beside the bed, taking Jimin’s trembling hands in his own. “I’m so sorry, Jimin,” he whispered, his own voice thick with tears. “I’m so sorry…”

Jimin struggled against him, his body convulsing with the weight of his grief. “Why? Why did this happen?!” he screamed, eyes squeezed shut as tears streamed down his face.

Jungkook didn’t have an answer. He had asked himself the same question a thousand times, and each time it hurt just as much. But there was no answer—no reason, no explanation that could make this right. All he could do was hold onto Jimin, even as his husband’s world shattered around him.

“It’s not fair… it’s not fair…” Jimin sobbed, his voice growing weaker, the energy draining from him as the reality set in. Jungkook pulled him into his arms, holding him as tightly as he could, hoping his embrace could somehow shield Jimin from the cruel reality they were now living in.

“I’m here… I’m right here,” Jungkook whispered, pressing his lips to the top of Jimin’s head, trying to offer what little comfort he could. But he knew nothing could truly ease this pain.

Slowly, Jimin’s body stopped fighting, his strength depleted by the emotional storm. His sobs quieted into soft, broken cries as he lay limp in Jungkook’s arms, emotionally spent. His eyes, once full of life, now stared blankly at the ceiling, tears still trickling down his cheeks.

Jungkook gently laid him back onto the bed, wiping away the tears that continued to flow. Jimin didn’t resist; he simply lay there, his face hollow, his eyes empty. The silence that followed was deafening, the weight of their loss pressing down on them both.

Jimin’s voice, now a whisper, broke the silence. “Our baby’s gone...”

Jungkook’s heart twisted painfully. Hearing those words from Jimin felt like a knife to his chest. He nodded, tears filling his own eyes as he brushed his fingers through Jimin’s hair. “Yes,” he said softly, his voice cracking. “But you’re still here, Jimin. And I’m still here with you. We’ll get through this together, I promise.”

But Jimin didn’t respond. He just lay there, eyes unfocused, staring into nothingness as his body trembled with silent sobs.

Jungkook felt utterly helpless, knowing there was nothing he could say or do to ease the unbearable pain Jimin was feeling. He could only hold him, keep him close, and be there when his husband needed him most.

As the night stretched on, Jungkook stayed by Jimin’s side, never letting go of his hand. Neither of them spoke, the room filled only with the soft sounds of Jimin’s broken cries and the steady rhythm of the hospital machines.

The weight of their loss hung heavy in the air, suffocating them both.
