Chapter 14

Brooklyn remained huddled in Hudson's hold for quite a while ever since Thailog left, still hearing his fake father's voice ringing in his head, groaning and not feeling very good, the elder gently rubbing his back.

"Easy now, little one, it's alright, shh." Hudson murmured while Owen had been helping Xanatos up despite the man's wounds. Xanatos gave a little glare but his eyes were slightly concerned for the beak male who was crying, Lexington and Broadway both looking at each other in worry. "You can get him out of here now. I'll be fine Goliath." Xanatos grumbled, limping from Owen guiding him to the infirmary.

Goliath folded his arms from the man's reluctance to allow the red gargoyle to heal here but figured having Brooklyn in some place even more familiar could possibly bring his memories back. "Very well. I'll carry him, Hudson." He said to the brown gargoyle.

Brooklyn's ears flattened in fright, seeing Goliath coming closer but was stuck with Thailog in his place, clinging tight to Hudson who eventually made a suggestion. "I think the lad is afraid of you right now. I'll do it." Hudson gently cradled Brooklyn in his arms who was rather exhausted from his fright, Goliath giving a little sigh before nodding, gesturing to the others to follow.

Elisa even though she was worried for Brooklyn decided herself to follow back to the clocktower and eventually call someone she knew who she can trust to check on Brooklyn; Dr. Sato. He was a man who hardly judged anybody based off of their looks and he once helped her when getting shot.

It took quite a bit to get Brooklyn back to the clocktower but eventually the clan finally made it back home with Bronx waiting for them who woofed, wagging his tail and seeing the red one back again but also backed up a little since Brooklyn had hurt him earlier.

Brooklyn heard the woof while lying in Hudson's arms, ears pricking in fright since he still had none of his original memories and shaking from seeing the strange dog looking gargoyle. Hudson held him carefully. "Easy, it's just Bronx lad. You remember Bronx, right?" The red male swallowed, shaking his head no, Hudson sighing while the clan went inside, praying that the real lad was still inside somewhere.

Elisa managed to rush to the clocktower too with the doctor as Broadway had a spare bed pulled out for Brooklyn to lie down on. Hudson placed him onto the cushions, Brooklyn shaking and staring at nothing, hearing Thailog's voice in his mind even further. "You'll never get away, little cherry... I'll come back for you..." his dark voice purred, making Brooklyn jerk about, eyes popped open.

Goliath was there as Sato stared in shock at the sight of the beaked gargoyle looking rather worse for wear, several bruises on his skin as well as some kind of weird tattoo. Lex had seen the tattoo too which caused his anger at Thailog to rise, wanting to get rid of that evil mark for good. "Brooklyn, stay with us!" Goliath begged, a hand on Brook's shoulder who screamed, covering his eyes while Hudson and Broadway held him down so Sato could come and look.

Sato put a hand on Brooklyn's forehead. "He's running a small temperature." He told the others, probably from stress. Sato also looked into Brooklyn's eyes with one of his small instruments, and could easily tell there was signs of amnesia mixed with hypnosis. This wasn't good. "Your friend has a small case of hypnosis still imbedded into his brain. He'll need a lot of attention and care to get him to snap out of this."

Elisa had a hand over her mouth, finding it hard to believe that someone as vile as Thailog would reduce to using hypnosis on someone as innocent as Brooklyn. "How long would it take for it to go away?" She asked in worry, Sato giving a grave sigh after listening to Brooklyn's heart. Thankfully there wasn't any operation he had to do. "I'm not so sure. Months, a year maybe. I've dealt with victims of extreme hypnosis before. And this one is pretty bad."

Broadway had tears in his eyes, while Brooklyn whined, struggling, the blue gargoyle's hands holding him gently by the shoulders. "Brook, it'll be alright, we'll be here to help you bro," The blue gargoyle said until eventually, Elisa came up with an idea since the clock tower didn't have many places for Brooklyn to have any privacy when he needed it.

"Maybe Brooklyn can stay over with me doctor Sato? I have enough room since my apartment has a guest room. And it can be pretty quiet for Brooklyn to live until his memories somehow come back." Elisa suggested, Sato nods. "I suppose that can work. But with this mark here, I will have to come over to get it off of him."

Goliath eyed the branding which looked like some kind of gargoyle taloned hand on it, finding it pretty disturbing and horrible that Thailog would do something to a younger one. "I can bring Brooklyn over to your place Elisa. As long as he will be comfortable there. You wouldn't mind, will you?" He asked Brook gently who cringed up from Goliath's voice, which still sounded too much like his 'father's'. He just didn't know what to believe in anymore, tears staining his cheeks.

Hudson took note of this, drying Brooklyn's tears. "Goliath, maybe it'll be best if it was me who glides him there. He still looks to be very cautious about you." The brown elder said in his elderly voice, Goliath eventually taking the hint when watching how Brooklyn was frozen out of his fear, now curled up after Dr Sato allowed him to sit up.

"Ok. If that's what you think will help him feel comfortable." Goliath said in a disheartened tone, once more trying to rekindle with the young beaked gargoyle but Brooklyn instantly scooted away, eyes wide and big, shaking hard. Hudson carefully wrapped a gentle arm around the youth. "Steady there laddie. Up ye get. I'm takin' ya to Elisa's."

Elisa gave Brooklyn a smile. "Hi, I'm sure you still remember me, right?" She asked, cupping Brooklyn's cheek carefully. Brooklyn looked into the eyes of this strange human before eventually shaking his head no, his ears super flat, looking like a small child which Elisa could easily understand. "It's alright. You're going to be living with me for a bit, just to help you feel normal again buddy. I'll see you there, ok?"

Brooklyn after a long pause nods from his timid manner, voice croaky. "Ok..." He whispered, Hudson bringing him into his arms, nodding to Elisa. "Go on, we'll be there soon."

The detective grins at them, going first to talk to her chief to ensure she got some time off for this specific occasion. She pretty much told her chief that she was going to be helping a sick member in her family, and that it might be taking quite a bit of her time. The chief agrees to Elisa's request, allowing her as much time as she needed.

Hudson had by now taken to the sky, Lexington and Broadway giving their goodbyes to Brooklyn and that they would hopefully try to visit. Brooklyn held on tightly to the elder, not used to being carried like this, the noises of the city slowly getting to him, shaking all over. Hudson kept on murmuring words of comfort to the smaller male, telling him it'll be ok until he finally spotted Elisa's apartment from afar, coming in for a landing on the balcony, where Brooklyn will be turning to stone for the day.

He brought Brooklyn to the couch in the living room and laid him down into it, Brooklyn's breathing quick paced when seeing this strange building, a child like fear still on his face, his mind still reeling with the fact that he was free from Thailog's terrifying control over his mind and actions, longing now to rest and stay away from the world for a while.

"You want some water lad?" Hudson asked gently, stroking Brooklyn's head. The stressed red youth nods meekly, his throat suddenly rather parched and sore, staring down at his branding, wanting it to go away. Vivid memories of him killing innocent humans began to plague him even further, gripping the cushions.

Hudson filled a glass of water and brought it over to the tensed up Brooklyn, gently moving his head over so he can see it. "Here, drink little one." Hudson said in his softest voice, Brook licking his lips, taking the glass shakily in his hands. Hudson helped him drink so it wouldn't spill all over him until the door knocked. "Who's there?" Hudson demanded, but thankfully it was just Elisa since she had the keys to her apartment, smiling at them. "I see you made it. Glad that Brooklyn is off his feet now."

She petted her cat meowing on her feet, going to say hi to Brooklyn who was still gripping his glass hard, watching her with frightened curiosity at the idea of being in a human's home. "Make yourself at home Brooklyn. There's the spare room if you need privacy and I can watch you while you're stone. We'll figure out your memory problem, I know we will."

Brook swallowed but soon her nice words got through to him. "Thanks... I think..." He said quietly, curling his legs up.

Elisa turns to Hudson. "Do you know what word Thailog was using on Brooklyn to hypnotize him? I don't want to accidentally say it and trigger the control again."

The brown gargoyle shrugged. "I honestly don't know. If we hear anythin' from the other lads, I shall let you know." He said, turning to go and leave, giving Brooklyn a small hand squeeze, Brooklyn simply turning his head absently away from the elder, not wanting to see anymore gargoyles for a while, not since almost gutting their leader to pieces.

Now that they were alone, Brooklyn was even more nervous; watching the dark haired human who seemed so familiar approach, the gentle smile on her face, a hand on his arm. She felt his skin tingle in fear from the contact. "Don't be so afraid honey. I got some things I know you will like during your stay here. Videos, books, etc. we'll be having some fun together."

Brooklyn's tears fell when she said the word fun, not having experienced anything like that for a long while, Elisa putting a blanket over him, taking his empty glass. "Just relax for a bit until I can get some food for you."

Nodding his head, Brooklyn mostly just continues to curl up on the couch, his mind just befuddled with questions and continuing fear of Thailog finding him here in the apartment, hoping this Elisa will keep him protected despite her being a human. He watched as Elisa put together some tea and toast since Brooklyn was still struggling with a small fever that the red gargoyle could still feel, making his head throb and pound.

Elisa also made soup as well and eventually brought it on a tray for him, her smile still present. She placed it on the coffee table and helped Brooklyn sit up so he can try eating. Brooklyn was rather shaky all over, Elisa taking the spoon and feeding it to him. This had been the most care that Brooklyn felt like he never gotten before. All that so called love from Angel now felt really false. The way Elisa murmured to him so soothingly, it made his mind relax further despite the tears still once in a while slipping down his face.

Once finishing the tea and food, Brooklyn's inner clock knew that soon the sun was gonna come up, feeling Elisa guide him up to his feet. "It's alright, just take easy steps. Your stone sleep will get rid of your fever." Elisa encouraged, holding Brook by his arm, Brooklyn limping from how weak he was as the two went onto the deck.

He looked over to the female human, his eyes still moistened. "Will you be here, when I wake?" The red gargoyle asked in his croaky way. Elisa rubs his arm, nodding. "Yes, I can promise you that." Since she was now off duty for a while, Elisa was going to sit out here during the day and ensure nobody smashed him in his sleep.

Soon the sun rays arrived and eventually encased Brooklyn, his uncertainness and lost expression still present as he fell into the stone slumber to escape this reality.
