37- "Twelve Minutes."
Not really edited enough, sorry for typos :)
I stared into Percy's eyes, watching the colour swirl around. I pushed the fallen piece of jet black hair our of his face, and brought my hand down to cup his cheek. "Can you say it again?" He asked hopefully.
"I'm in love with you." I smile brightly at Percy, loving his reaction to my confession about my feelings. We kissed straight afterwards, and it felt complete different. All of our other kisses were new and exciting, tingling out nerves and making butterflies flap around our stomachs. This, this was comfort. This was home. This was love.
After out lovely little make out session, it wasn't really, he kept asking me to say it, his eyes wide just like a puppy's.
"Again?"
I placed a final kiss on his lips. "I'm in love you, Seaweed Brain. Now shut up, we have to talk about getting out of here."
He chuckled and rested his head against the wall. "So we have Bob, and he said that he could possibly, maybe, very unlikely get us out next week."
I nodded, resting my head on Percy's shoulder. "Yes. But emphasise the possibly, maybe and very unlikely."
"Dam," Percy muttered. "If only Ethan was alive. He could help us."
"Or I can." Luke's voice came from the shadows.
"How do we know we can trust you?" Percy growled. I moved my hand to claps Percy's.
"Okay, I know your both upset with me. But, we have to work together."
"But its more than just being upset with you. You completely betrayed my trust Luke, family or not. How do I know you won turn around and kill me as soon as we get out of this hell hole?" I asked.
"Oh please," I heard movement from Luke's cell. "I stabbed you in the back once. I knew you would live."
"And if I didn't?"
"I wouldn't be able to live with myself."
There was a moments pause before Percy started talking.
"Or you would be killed by your crazy boss."
"Well maybe if the Royal Family did what they were supposed to do we wouldn't be in this situation."
"You had no idea what we were talking about. You had no idea what we were planning to do. You don't know anything."
The sound from Luke's cell was getting louder. There was a clang of metal and then his voice. "What you don't know is the starving people out there. The homeless. The dying. You live a privilege life Percy-"
"You don't think I know that? I'm trying the make our country better." (I almost wrote 'Make our country great again 😂)
"Yeah well," The sound of lock clicking filled the room. "It's a bit to late."
We heard the shuffle of feet come towards our cell. Then in the shadows I saw Luke's face.
"What?" I asked stunned. "How?"
He smirked. The dry blood on his face cracking. "I'm a son of Hermes, Annie. I can pick any lock."
Percy and I stood up and walked over to the door. Percy held my hand as I stuck my other one out and clasped Luke's. "Please," I pleaded, the desperation seeping into my voice. "Please get us out of here."
He squeezed my hand. "I will, I just need to get weapons first."
"Bob," Percy said. "Get Bob and Damersen. They wanted to get out too."
Luke nodded in Percy's direction. He then tuned to me. "I promise Annie. And this promise I will keep."
Luke turned and walked away. "Do you think he will keep it?" Percy asked.
I watched Luke's retreating figure. "He has to."
Percy lead me back over to the place I was starting to mentally calling out favourite spot, leaning against the wall. "I keep forgetting to ask you." I faced Percy instead of resting my head on his shoulder. "How do you feel about this whole Kronos thing? Your grandfather is alive."
Percy sighed and rubbed his face with his hand. "I'm conflicted?" He shrugged. "I mean, I guess it's cool that's he's not dead, but trying to kill us today didn't exactly grant him the best grandfather of the year award. How are you feeling about Luke?"
"Conflicted. I was so hurt when he betrayed us, and I think my hopes are a little to high that he'll come back and help us."
"What happened?" Percy asked suddenly after a few movements of silence.
"What do you mean?"
"It feels like this morning I was worrying about asking you on a date-"
"And I was worried you weren't going to ask me on a date." I smiled sadly at him, finishing his sentence.
"Come here." He moved forward and wrapped his arms around me in an air tight hug. It was suffocating me but gave me a feeling I hadn't felt in ages. Proper, full on, hope.
A bang woke me up from my very quick nap. I jolted up right and immediately braced myself to see Ethan walking in with what I shouldn't really call breakfast. Instead all I saw was a gun on the floor.
I looked up at the door, and Luke smiled at me throwing another gun into the cell. This bang woke Percy up, and he gripped my forearm straight away. He breathed a small sigh of relief when he saw that it was just Luke.
"Guns?" I asked, moving over to them. I picked one up and felt the familiar feel of the gun.
"Yep. For when we break out."
"When is that going to be?" I asked, way to hopeful. It was filling my stomach.
"Tonight."
"Tonight?" Percy asked sceptical. "How?"
"I talked to Bob," Luke slid down the wall opposite the cell door, and watched us and we moved over to our door. "We managed to come up with a plan to get the five of us out of here. Oh and Percy," He pushed a sword along the ground. "That's yours."
"Mine?" Percy picked it up and ran his finger across the blade and brushed his finger across the trident at the top of the hilt.
"Yeah," Luke nodded. "It was your father's. It's called Riptide."
"Fathers...?" He gripped the worn leather handle. "It was my dad's?"
"Yeah. I guess I should tell you the proper story of Kronos."
Percy was to busy admiring the sword to reply with a sassy comment so I did. "That would be helpful."
"As you know, Kronos disappeared during battle. Many said he was kidnapped, others said he was injured and died in the surrounding forests and very little say he ran away. He did in fact run away, and when he had settled into his life, he started recruiting young men and women who were treated badly by his own rules. He lied, convincing everyone that would listen that it wasn't him who made all the terrible decisions. That is was the Council who forced him to. People believed him and he started the plan to over throw the country again. His first plan was to get Percy the crown , and by doing that he needed to get rid of one factor."
"Poseidon." I whispered.
"What?" Percy's grip on my hand tightened.
"You know," Luke said. "Your father died in that cell Percy."
Percy let go of my hand and smashed it against the cell door, a loud bang echoing down the hall. "Do not speak of my father."
Luke looked over at him almost sleepily. "He didn't really die at sea."
Percy shook his head. "Don't lie to me. Just because you didn't kill Annabeth today doesn't mean that I trust you."
"I'm telling the truth," Luke moved closer to us and pointed to the chains hanging from the wall that they used to restrain us when we first got here. "He died in those chains. Kronos took the ship that Poseidon was on, killed all his men then left his own son in here. He died of dehydration you know?"
Percy slumped against the wall. "What?" He asked in a weak voice.
"You were probably doubting that Kronos could kill you. He killed his own son and hasn't thought of him since."
"Well," Percy chuckled. "I have a very stuffed up family indeed."
We stayed silent for what seemed like forever, thinking over every thing. I couldn't quite wrap my head around the fact that Kronos had killed his own son and was about to kill his own grandson. He was psychotic.
"What do you think Thalia will do?" Luke asked.
I scrunched my face up in confusion and pressed myself against the cell bars to look at him better. "What do you mean?"
"When we get back. I know I'll be killed straight away, but I want to see Thalia first. I want to say sorry."
"She'll probably kick you very hard." Percy muttered, smiling slightly at the sight. "I know I will."
"And I completely deserve it. I'll be living in a cell for the rest of my days."
"Really?" I asked quietly, turning my head to Percy.
"How many laws has he broken, Wise Girl? I can't do anything, he's done to much damage already."
"Well Luke, I'll be visiting you all the time."
"No need for that. You'll be to busy planning your wedding."
Percy chuckled and scratched the back of his neck. "Not engaged yet."
I let the 'yet' slide, feeling giddy inside and snuggle closer to Percy. "What's the plan?"
Luke told us the plan, and it seemed to be very relying on things that we couldn't control. I tried to think of other ways to get where we needed to go, but that wasn't going to work. I did come up with some better ideas, as Luke and Bob's plan was sloppy at some points. But, it would have to do, as I couldn't wait another day of not seeing the people I loved most.
I thought about Dad and Helen. Would they be worried now? Would they be scared? Or they would probably go to work as usual and cry in front of others, keeping up the act. I decided on the latter. Bobby and Matthew would most likely be frustrated, as no one would give them any information about me. Piper would be worried, as would Jason, Leo, the Stolls, Grover and Juniper. Hazel, Justine and Alicia would anxious as well. Sally and Paul would be out of their minds. Two people that they love dearly gone. I was sure that they would be doing their best to find us, and it would be driving them crazy as to not finding us already.
"You guys should get some sleep. You're going to need it."
"What about you?" I asked Luke.
He shook his head. "I'll stand guard."
Percy laid down on the ground, using his hands as his pillow. Before slipping down next to him, I muttered a thank you towards Luke. For being guard, for getting weapons, for helpings us get out of here, and for finally remembering our promise.
"Annie." I heard a whisper come from the door that woke me up.
"Hello?" I pulled Percy's arms away from my waist quietly, trying not to wake him.
"It's Luke," Luke's face came out of the shadows.
I closed my eyes for a moment then re-opened them again. "Yeah?"
"I brought food." He pushed the familiar silver platter through the door and then passed me some glasses of water.
"Why don't you unlock this cell?"
"This one has an alarm attached to it. When I'm going to do it, we're going to have to run as fast as we can to the meeting point."
I nodded and gently shook Percy awake. "Wake up Percy. Breakfast."
"Real food?" He muttered getting up.
I touched the bread on the plate and was surprised to find that it wasn't stale. "Fresh bread."
"Wow." Percy took a bite and nodded. "Yep, that's good."
I took my piece of bread and my stomach thanked me for food that it could actually digest. After I finished I was still hungry but Luke said that was all the food he could get without it looking suspicious.
"Did you have some?"
He nodded. "I had a slice on the way here."
"I really hope you aren't leading us into a trap." Percy locked eyes with Luke.
"I'm not." He said and backed away into the shadows.
"How long did we sleep?"
"Around 6 hours. By the time we get going and get out of here, it will be early morning of the 14th."
Percy nodded and laid back down. "How long until we start moving?"
Luke sighed. "An hour."
For the next hour, Percy and I didn't talk much. I think it was because of the nerves. The nerves that filled my whole body. I was scared that we were going to get caught and killed. But I didn't show it on my face, as I didn't want to show any weakness or doubt. Now was the time to be strong.
"One minute." Luke kneeled down on his knee and started to pick at out lock, his tongue hanging out slightly as he concentrated.
Percy kissed me on the lips and lingered there for a moment. "I'm in love with you."
"I'm in love with you, too." I smiled and hugged him for a second then walked over to Luke.
"How long?"
"5." He started to count down. I picked up my gun and Percy picked up Riptide.
"4." I looked over at Percy.
"3." Percy took my hand.
"2." He squeezed it, giving me the confidence that I needed.
"1." We looked back at Luke just in time to see the door swing open.
We didn't get time to flinch as the loud alarm rang out around the hallway. We bolted down the hallway, already struggling after ten meters. Luke was ahead of us, leading the way. We ran and turned corners quickly, hearing the distant sound of footsteps behind us. We turned a corner, then had to run back as Rebels came running towards us.
"Styx." Luke called over his shoulder. "We didn't plan for that."
"But you said that was a short cut." I puffed out.
"What's the long route?" Percy asked.
Luke suddenly turned a corner and we followed after him.
The adrenaline picked up in my body at the sound of Luke's voice. "We're almost there. Stick to the plan."
I nodded even though he couldn't see me, to tired to say anything.
He rounded the corner, us right behind him, and we came to a stop at the sight of Bob and Damersen.
"Quick." Bob stepped forward, relief on his face. "Get behind us."
I smiled slightly at Damersen and we stood behind them. Percy held up Riptide and I held up my gun, my hand shaking slightly. Luke got to work behind us.
"I can't cut the chains." Luke said after a moment. "Percy you're going to have to do it."
Percy nodded and spun around, and soon we heard the slice of sword and the clang of metal hitting the ground.
Luke stood next to me, holding his sword, Backbiter, up. "I have something for you."
"Yeah?" I asked.
He pulled out a dagger from his pocket, and handed it too me. I gripped it. It was well balanced and was comfortable in my hand. The blade was sharp and made out of a white material.
"Drakon bone. I know you lost the one I gave you in the forest-"
"I didn't-"
"So I got this one for you."
I wanted to hug him, and thank him, but I couldn't as Damersen shouted that he could hear footsteps.
"How are you going Percy?" I asked slightly worried.
"Almost there." We then heard the slice of sword again and the sound of metal falling to the ground. "Got it."
We all backed towards Percy slowly. "Can you open the doors?" Luke asked.
We heard a grunt from Percy. "One second."
Further down the hallway we could see moving figures and shouting. "They are here, my friends." Bob held up his broomstick higher.
"Almost there." Percy's voice came from behind us.
Damersen shouted a war cry and rushed towards the Rebels, Bob following suit. Luke ran after them and I could hear the clang of swords meetings. I breathed a quick breath and ran towards the fight.
A Rebel advanced towards me and I blocked his attack with my dagger. I pushed his arm back towards his chest and managed to kick him in the shin. He groaned and stumbled back slightly. I used this and sliced my dagger across his chest, blood pouring out of the cut.
Percy appeared beside me and we fought the next Rebel together. She ran straight towards us and tried to swing her sword to our throats, but Percy caught the strike midair and held her sword high with Riptide. Using the open space of her stomach, I plunged my dagger into her stomach. The Rebel fell backwards with wide eyes, and I took my dagger out of her, wiping the red mixture on her black uniform. I turned around to see Percy fighting two Rebels, but didn't go and help him as he struck down the first one.
Distracted I didn't see the Rebel behind me and it was to late as I felt cold metal being pressed against my throat. "Well hello there, Princess."
I groaned in annoyance and kicked him where the sun does no shine. He let go of me and groaned in pain, clutching his precious body parts. I brought down my dagger and sliced open his shoulder. "I'm not a princess."
I bent down and muttered into his ear: "Yet."
And I stabbed him in the heart.
I looked around and noticed that the number of Rebels attacking were less than the five of us.
"We have to do it now!" I shouted over the noise.
Everyone quickly finished with the Rebel they had and we stepped over all the dead bodies towards the elevator at the end of the hallway, it's doors were opened and I stepped in first, Percy behind me and Luke behind him. I looked around the small space, finally relived to be in the elevator that would take us up to the surface and home.
Bob was about to step in but Luke cursed and banged his fist against the wall.
"What?"
"We need someone to stay here and hold the button."
"What?" Percy asked with wide eyes. "One of us has to stay back?"
Luke nodded. "I'll do it."
"No." Bob stood in front of the door. He turned his head towards Damersen and they had a silent conversation with their eyes. "We will stay back."
"What? No-" Luke tried to push past him but Bob was stronger.
"You are young. You have a life to live."
"They do, but I'll be executed as soon as I step out."
Bob shook his head and pushed Luke back in.
"We can't just leave you here!" Percy cried.
I flung my arms around Bob's neck. I kissed him on the cheek and thanked him, tears filling my eyes.
"You must go, my friends. How long do I have to hold the button for Luke?"
"Twelve minutes."
"Twelve minutes." Bob nodded.
He stared at me and Percy for a moment then said: "Tell the moon and stars hello for me."
The doors slid shut with a bang.
Bob 😭😭😭
Thank you guys for being so patient with me! Exams are over, school finishes next week and then I have 8 weeks of holidays!
They are out! Thank god, hey? Any ideas of what Percy could give to Annabeth for her birthday? I'm kind of stuck for ideas :)
113K reads!? Holy macaroni.
I haven't been on Wattpad for like two weeks as the app won't open on my phone, which sucks so sorry if I've missed comments and stuff. I'm going to go through my 700 notifications after I post this chapter. Hehe
Thank you again! Happy December!
