25- "You're Cute When You Sneeze."
WARNING: SHORT CHAPTER, SORRY
I woke up in the middle of the night bolting to the bathroom. I nearly had no time to open the toilet before all of yesterday's food came back up.
The smell and taste of vomit filled me up and I held back from going another round. I blinked confusingly around the dark bathroom, wondering what was going on.
After taking some deep breaths and steadying myself, I managed to find my way to my bedroom door and stick my head out.
There was no guard situated right out front but one was a few doors down.
"Excuse me, sir?" I asked.
His head turned towards me and he quickly rushed over. "Annabeth?"
"Beckendorf?" I squinted. Charles Beckendorf was a large guy, strong and tall, with dark skin and brown eyes. He's been a guard for a while now and he's closer to Percy than he is to me.
He nodded. "What's up?"
"I uh- I need my maids. I'm not feeling good. Could you please get Hazel for me?"
"Sure thing," He nodded and took off down the hallway.
I quietly closed the door behind me and slumped down, leaning against the bottom of my bed resting my head in my hands.
My nightgown was sticking to my skin, I was starting to feel extremely light-headed and dehydrated.
What was happening? How did it happen? How long will it happen? Does anyone else have it?
A few minutes later the door was thrown open and Hazel and Justine rushed over to me.
"What's happened?"
"Are you okay?"
I shook my head. "I think I've got a cold or something. I just vomited and... and I'm feeling light-headed."
They both gave me sympathetic looks and they helped me back into bed.
"Where's Alicia?" I asked.
"She's still sleeping," Hazel sighed. "We couldn't wake her up."
I smiled a little and snuggled into my pillow.
Justine brought over a bucket, just in case, a glass of water and a cloth to wipe the sweat off my forehead.
Hazel was fixing up the bathroom and I muttered a sorry when she came back out.
Justine dabbed the cloth on my forehead. "I think it's food poisoning."
"Huh?" I sneezed into a tissue.
"You must have eaten something last night. Or it could be the flu," She looked at the clock on the wall and sighed. "It's 3 am, Will-"
"Needs to sleep," I interrupted."Let's just see how I go and we can call a nurse at breakfast time."
"Anna-" Hazel started to protest but I waved her away.
"I'm fine, really. I'm fine."
(Annabeth doesn't want to go to the hospital wing because of her pride. She doesn't want anyone to think of her as weak because she needed to go to the doctors)
Alicia woke up at around five o'clock and walked in on me throwing up again.
She made a sarcastic comment about my skills and then she cleaned it up.
The girls were fussing over me but all I wanted to do was sleep.
"Can I have some shorts and a t-shirt please?"
Hazel raised her eyebrows. "Where do I get those?"
"In my other bedroom."
Hazel returned with shorts, an orange top and a large sweater that used to be Percy's before I stole it years ago, to which I put on immediately and fell asleep in my bed.
There was a small knock on the door. I winced, my headache throbbing more as I got up and rested on my elbows behind me.
Justine gave me an apologetic look. "Do you want me to answer it?"
"Yes, please, just tell them I'm in the bath."
Realising I didn't want to see anyone she nodded and walked to the door.
I watched as she opened it, her jaw dropping and eyes widen.
"Your Majesty," She bowed. When she got out of whoever's eyesight she shot me a look.
"Hello, dear."
My heart swelled with Sally's voice. Just what I needed. Motherly love.
"Um, Lady Annabeth is in the-"
I cut her off. "It's alright, Justine. Sally can come in."
Justine nodded again and opened the door wider.
In walked Sally in a beautiful green sundress, her hair in a bun and holding a tray, a teapot and mug set on top.
"Hi, honey." She greeted me as she put the tray on to my bedside table and sat next to me.
"Hi," I said weakly and sneezed again.
She started to stroke my hair and forehead, "I heard through the grapevine you weren't feeling well so I made you some honey lemon tea."
As Sally got the teapot and poured my tea I couldn't help love her even more. She was the best mum anyone could ask for. Not only was she kind and caring, she took me in as her own after my mother died. Even though she has thousands of other responsibilities, not to mention her three kids, she loved and looked after me. And still does.
"Thanks so much, Sally."
I took a sip of the warming tea as she sat back down.
"What did you eat last night? Want me to send for a doctor?"
I put the mug down. "I think it's just a head cold. I'll be fine, no need to worry."
She continued to stroke my forehead and hair as I melted into her touch.
After only a few moments of peacefulness, the door burst open.
Standing there with urgent eyes was Percy. His hair even messier than usual, his tie done loose and his suit jack was off.
"Annabeth!"
He quickly walked around the side of the bed and sat next to me.
"Hey,"
"What's wrong? Are you hurt? Do you need anything? How are you feeling? Want a doctor? Tea? Food? Water?" He spoke so quickly it was hard to understand him.
"Percy. Shhh" I put my finger on his lips to stop him from talking.
Even with my finger there, he continued to talk.
"Have you got a headache? Do you need painkillers? Blocked nose? Pains? Hospital? Dying?"
"Percy, calm down." I smiled at him.
He caught his breath and relaxed.
"I'm sick, I'm fine. Just a headache, sick stomach and a stuffy nose. I'm not dying, I don't need a hospital."
He sighed a breath of relief and laid down next to on top of the covers.
"You finish that tea, honey. Call if you need anything."
I didn't even remember Sally was there. She quietly left and closed the door behind her. I could hear a giggle escape her lips though.
"Are you sure?" Percy asked while he turned around to face me. Me doing the same.
"Percy, it's just a cold. I'll be all good again in a day or two."
"I'm still taking you to Will later, okay?"
I rolled my eyes and snuggled closer to him as he wrapped a strong arm around me.
"If you insist."
"Do you need anything?"
"Just cuddle with you."
I felt Percy nod and sigh again as he got comfortable. Feeling the warmth coming from Percy and hearing his steady breathing and heartbeat, I soon fell asleep.
I woke to the feeling of a wet substance falling down my forehead and cheeks.
Wiping it off and getting off Percy's chest I looked at his face a realised the stuff on my face was his drool. He had his back resting against the wall.
"Ewww,"
Noticing that I was off him, he opened one eye.
I got on top of him, straddling his hips, and wiped off the drool with my sleeve. He opened both eyes in surprise.
I looked him in the eye and told him, "You droll in your sleep."
He chuckled and pulled me closer to him so our foreheads were together.
"I know, you've told me several times."
I sneezed again and used my sweater sleeve to block Percy.
"You're cute when you sneeze,"
I flashed him a smile as he moved in closer for a kiss but I pushed him back.
"I'm sick,"
He pouted. "I don't care."
He quickly crashed his lips onto mine so I couldn't react swiftly enough.
I melted into his feeling whilst I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as he did my waist. He sat up straighter resting his back on the bed head and I wrapped my legs around his waist.
He tasted like sea salt, as always.
The kiss intensified and I played with his hair at the bottom of his neck and he gripped tightly around my waist. His lips left my lips and trailed down my jawline and rested on my neck. I cupped his cheek and brought his face back to mine so I could kiss him again. Fireworks of bliss and happiness sounded off in my head and my focus was on Percy. The way his strong arms felt around my waist, the soft skin of his neck on my fingers, the way his eyelashes tickled my cheeks and the feeling of his chest pressed against mine, it was all I cared about.
What only felt like moments, but was really minutes, we heard the door open with a gasp and a giggle. I pulled back and looked towards the door.
My face burned red as Alicia had her jaw dropped and Hazel was covering her mouth, trying to stifle her giggles.
"Even when she's sick, she wants him," Alicia commented.
Percy chucked and closed his eyes as he rested his head back on the wall. I gasped and quickly threw the closest thing, which was a soft pillow, at Alicia. I failed miserably, missing her by a mile because I was throwing with my left arm.
Alicia sent me a triumphant smile and walked into the bathroom while Hazel sat down on a chair because she was giggling so much.
I turned back to Percy and saw that he was not disturbed by this at all.
"Why aren't you disturbed that they just saw us kissing?"
"One, it wasn't kissing. We were full on making out. Two, you look cute when you're flustered."
Which made me even more flustered and caused even more giggles from both Hazel and Alicia.
I shook my head and rested my head on his shoulder, wrapping our arms around each other.
"How are you feeling now?" He whispered in my ear.
I sighed. "Much better,"
I could feel his cheeks move as he smiled. "Because of me?"
I pulled back and slapped his shoulder. "No," He raised his eyebrows. "Maybe." He cocked his head to the side. "Ok, fine. Yes."
He smiled and pecked me on the cheek. "I want to take you to Will now."
I pouted. "But you're so warm."
He chucked and moved my legs from around his waist, and pushed me off him.
I gasped and hit the bed. "If I wasn't sick, you would have been in a major pillow fight."
He grinned at me and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me up. On instinct, I moved my legs and hooked them together around his waist. His hands rested on my bare legs making sure I wouldn't fall, and I shivered but not from the cold.
He shook his head and started moving towards the door whilst I put my head on his shoulder.
He gave a nod to Hazel as we passed, but she didn't respond. She was laughing and giggling too much.
Percy walked down the hallway towards the hospital wing, with me koala hugging him in my sweater and shorts.
"I don't see why I have to go see Will."
He shook his head. "We're going and that's final."
"Didn't you have a budget and then a planning meeting today?"
"Yes, but that doesn't matter. All that matters right now is you and your health. Paul can handle everything for me."
I rested my head on his shoulder again and sighed.
Percy is the most amazing guy you'll ever meet. It doesn't matter what he's got going on, even if theirs a threat to his country if he cares for you he'll put everything aside just for you. He's been like this since he could walk, talk and play.
He's the best friend anyone could ask for, and boyfriend, if I could call him that, and I'm lucky for it.
"Is this my sweater?" He asked suddenly, looking down at the clothes I was wearing.
"Yes, and you're not getting it back. Its mine now."
"Whatever you say, Wise Girl."
As we walked down the hallway we got smirks, grins and snickers from the guards lining the hallway. Some I spotted as Percy's friends, others I had grown up with and some I had seen around the palace.
"Go get some Percy!" Leo yelled out as we walked past him. I put my face more into Percy's neck to hide my red cheeks as Percy yelled back. "I already have!"
I gasped and hit his back as everyone chuckled.
I looked over at the guards and stared at them. They quickly got back into their positions and looked straight ahead, scared from my look.
"She's scary," Leo commented, I quickly spun my head in his direction and gave him my worst stare I could manage while sick. He moved so swiftly his helmet fell off and made a very loud bang.
I could hear him swear as we turned the corner.
"You're a Seaweed Brain," I told Percy.
He started to rub circles on my back. "I'm your Seaweed Brain."
We soon arrived at the grand doors to the hospital wing. Guards opened the door for us as we stepped in. All along the walls, cots were set up with small tables and chairs surrounding them, with curtains to pull around for privacy. Further down the wing, I could see doors leading off to offices and rooms for serious patients and the royal family.
When the nurses at the front desk noticed us they came rushing up.
"Your Highness. Everything alright?"
"Just wanting to see Doctor Solace in my mother's room, please."
They nodded and moved back to the desk to phone Will as Percy made his way down the pathway.
We passed several maids and chefs getting checked and sleeping. There were some guards as well with bandages wrapped around their arms and heads. I even spotted Jason lying down and reading a book with his glasses.
"Jason?" I asked.
He looked up at me and Percy stopped walking from the foot of the bed.
"Oh hey, Annabeth. Percy. Everything okay?"
"Just a cold. What's up with you?" Percy asked.
"Whilst training someone tried to throw a brick at my head."
I put a hand up to my mouth trying hard not to laugh. "Tried?"
"They succeeded. I had a concussion." He gestured to his bandaged up head.
Percy was trying hard not to laugh as well.
"Want to move to a room?" Percy asked.
"Nah, I'm fine. I like the bustle."
"Okay, just move into mine if you want too."
(Brason 4ever <3)
Jason nodded his thanks and went back to reading his book as Percy kept moving.
We finally reached a door with the Illèan symbol on it, for the royal family. Percy opened it and we went into a small hallway with more rooms leading off it.
"We'll go into mums. She won't mind." Percy then opened another door into a bigger room.
We went into Sally's hospital room. It had a large bed with another curtain for privacy. There was a big T.V on the wall with bookcases on either side. The walls and roof were painted a pale violet and I could see an amazing view of the gardens through the windows.
Percy placed me on the bed and moved the pillow to a more comfortable position. He was about to sit down on a chair next to me when the door opened and the doctor came in.
Doctor Will Solace.
Will was the same height has Percy, taller than me, he was a year older than us and had bright yellow hair. His eyes were a clear blue and his face was covered in freckles. He smiled at us showing his perfect white teeth.
I understand how almost all of the maids have a crush on him, he's very good looking. But he swings the other way, meaning he's gay.
"Percy, Annabeth. What's the problem?" He asked as he came over to the other side of the bed.
"She's got a cold. A headache, fever and sick stomach."
"I vomited this morning as well."
Will nodded and moved his hand to my forehead.
"How's your headache?" He asked me whilst he got a thermometer ready.
"Better than this morning. I had a sleep just before."
He put the thermometer and Percy took this chance of me not talking to make a comment.
"I may have helped."
I glared at him as Will shook his head and chuckled.
The thermometer beeped and Will took it out, checking the temperature.
"Not good," He looked up at Percy. "I might have to give her some drugs and run some tests."
Percy nodded and took my hand. "Anything. Just so she feels better."
Will nodded and left the room to get things he would need. Percy kissed my hand and sat down next to me.
Hours and lunch later Will brought back the results of the tests he did.
"Well, she'll get better. It's not just a cold. It's a bad case of the flu, you may experience some vomiting later tonight from your lunch. Some others might have it but we haven't had anyone come in."
I looked over at Percy. It's was just the flu. I'll get over this in a week, just some headaches and vomiting later. That's all.
Percy seemed to be taking it the other way.
"A bad case of the flue? Will she be okay? How long till she can get out of here?"
"Perce, calm down. I'll get over it."
He shook his head a stood up dropping my hand, which I immediately wanted back, and walked over to Will.
"I want everyone checked. All the Selected. I don't want anyone else getting this. Annabeth's bad enough."
Will shrugged. "It's not really necessary-"
Percy interrupted. "Please?"
Will nodded, sighed and walked out.
"Percy, you're overreacting."
"No. I'm going to go make you some soup."
And he left the room as well.
I looked around frowning. Now everyone will complain that they need to get tested for the gods know what and it will all come back to me. But if it can prevent anyone from feeling as sick as I do now, it would be worth.
"I couldn't make anything majorly awesome but I made pumpkin soup," Percy walked in twenty minutes later carrying a steaming bowl of orange soup.
"Yummy," He placed it in front of me and I started to sip some from a large spoon.
He chuckled and sat down next to, resting a hand on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry you're sick."
"I am too."
