Chapter two - Meeting the Milk Man

It was a short walk to the Co-op near our dorm. The sun was out for once and the fall leaves rustled along the sidewalk. The store loomed ahead of me. I opened the door and walked in.

"All we need is milk and bread." I said to myself picking up things and tallying the total in my head before heading out of the aisle.

I had just stepped out of the aisle, when somebody collided with me. The milk dropped and broke open smashing onto the floor and splashing all over my clothes.

" Oi ! Watch where you are going!" I said looking up at my attacker. He stared at me with big eyes.

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!"

"Obviously."I say unamused. Then taking a step backward I slip. "Oh Bugger!" I grimace.

"Oh Dear! Let me help you up."

"I'm fine." I grouse.

"Really its no trouble! It's not often I bump into such a pretty girl..." He blabbers on.

"Seriously? We just met. I don't even know your name." I say fixing him with a glare.

"Oops sorry, where are my manners. Richard Brooke at your service." He says with an exaggerated bow.

"Keyland McLaughlin."

"Pleasure to meet you Keyland." He said offering me a hand up. I ignored him. Getting up with difficulty on my own.

"Charmed I'm sure." I retort.

"Ah, I'll go get someone to clean this up." And then the funny little man with the Irish accent runs off. I pick up my sad squashed bread off the ground and hobble over to get another jug of milk. I finally make it to the till and realize I'm not alone. Richard pops up beside me. I jump then wince.

"Let me pay for your milk, its the least I can do!" He suggested.

"I can't let you do that." I interjected.

"Then let me walk you home." He urged.

"I can't do that either." I stated firmly.

"Why not?" He challenged. With a cute little smile.

"You could be a murderer for all I know." I scowled.

"Do you live on campus?" He asked suddenly.

"What?" I asked wondering where he got that idea. Do I look that much like a student?

"Which building on campus do you live in?" He continued.

"I'm not telling you." I said.

"Look love, if I was going to murder you it wouldn't be in broad daylight around the crowded University Campus." He avowed. {OH! I'm wearing my Uni sweater. Well I feel stupid. He probably isn't a stalker then.} I thought.

I laughed.

"Fine then. Let's go." I acquiesced.

"My lady." he said offering his arm to me. I rolled my eyes and clung on to his jacket. The walk back to our building was very painful and I was glad to have somebody to lean on. We chatted on the way there. It turns out Richard went to Sherlock and my university! He was studying the preforming arts. This seemed an odd way to make a friend. But who cares?
