Fully Functioning...
A/N Back to the plot where Eris is four years old and a cute gumdrop UwU.
3rd Person POV
Sherlock jerked awake at a loud knock on the door. "John! Sherlock! You have a guest!" Mrs.Hudson yelled from the stairway.
Sherlock rubbed his eyes and tried to get up before realizing he was stuck. Eris slept soundly on his lap, her head resting against his chest. John had his head on Sherlock's shoulder with the detective's arm around him.
"Um, let them in Mrs.Hudson," Sherlock said back, not moving out of worry that he would wake his boyfriend and daughter.
"I'm not your housekeeper Sherlock but I'll do it just this once." Mrs.Hudson replied before the door swung open to reveal a man leaning on an umbrella with his eyebrows raised. They raised even further at the sight of Sherlock cuddled up to his blogger and little girl.
"Hello, Brother. Comfortable?" Mycroft greeted, observing the sight with slight confusion and amusement.
"Quite. What is your business here Mycroft?"
"It happens to be about that girl actually. I would like to meet my niece." Mycroft said, his voice bland.
"Mycroft? What are you doing here?" John said sleepily, sitting up straight and blinking his eyes open.
"Neice." Is all the politician replied, he didn't like repeating himself.
Just then Eris yawned and lifted herself to look around. When she saw John and Sherlock she smiled happily "Good morin Papa. Good morin Doda."
"Good morning, sweetheart," John said in return, making the little girl giggle. Sherlock had no idea what to say so he just smiled and pat her head.
Eris saw Mycroft and took on a look of curiosity "Papa who dat?" She asked, pointing at the straight-backed man.
"That," Sherlock answered, determined not to neglect his daughter's questions "Is your Uncle Mycroft."
Eris perked up and jumped off Sherlock's lap, walking until she was right in front of Mycroft. She was so small compared to him that she had to tilt her head up to look at his face.
"Un-cle Myc-oft." She sounded out, her face strained with concentration. Eris smiled "Uncle Myc!"
Mycroft's eyes widened a bit "No no no, Mycroft. Not Myc."
But Eris wasn't listening, she was already running around aimlessly, toy dog in hand chanting "Uncle Myc! Uncle Myc! Uncle Myc!" And laughing hysterically.
John snorted and Sherlock felt pride glowing in his chest, Eris was already annoying Mycroft, it was fantastic. He felt the love for his daughter grow excessively.
Mycroft sighed and shot the little girl a sharp look, making her stop in her tracks. A look of horror passed over her face and the smile disappeared. Her head hung and she clutched her toy dog tightly. "Sowy. Please don't hurt me." Eris whispered in a shaky voice.
John's eyebrows scrunched together and he dropped onto his knees so he was eye level with the small girl. "Who hurt you Eris?"
"Mommy's boyfwend, got mad when I loud," Eris said quietly, hugging herself and shaking slightly.
Mycroft's face softened and he hesitantly placed a (What he hoped was) comforting hand on the girl's head "What was his name?" He asked a little too sharply, making John glare at him.
The doctor stroked his child's hair gently and Eris sniffed "Don Peters." she pronounced perfectly, making John shoot Sherlock a confused look.
"The monster most likely forced her to say his name correctly or he would hurt her." The detective replied, trying and failing to keep the anger out of his voice.
Mycroft's lips flattened into a thin line and he whipped his phone out from inside his coat pocket. He tapped on it for a second before holding it up to his ear "Find all the men called Don Peters in the area and question them for domestic abuse. Send me the reports immediately afterward and I will tell you what to do next." Mycroft said without greeting, then hung up and put the phone away.
John gave Mycroft a look of thanks (since Sherlock would never dream of doing it himself) and held the girl at arms length "We should go shopping," he said to no one in particular "Eris needs clothes, toys, food-"
"I'll go with you to make sure my niece doesn't end up running around in idiotic attire." Mycroft cut in, already reaching towards the door.
Sherlock raised an eyebrow but got up as well, John following suit. "Well then, I guess we'll go...shopping." the detective said flatly, his voice traced with clear disappointment and suspicion as he observed Mycroft.
John smirked, Sherlock always failed to realize just how similar he and Mycroft were when it came to the people they loved. Even though they claimed love was a weakness they would both do anything for their friends and family. John was surprised that Sherlock hadn't seen Mycroft's brotherly concern that came up all the time, true, it was a bit intense but that was their way of showing love. John had learned that by now.
"It's alright Sherlock," The doctor comforted, taking his boyfriend's hand "We'll find you a case after we get Eris settled. At least you won't be bored."
Sherlock avoided his eyes and nodded, then looked down at Eris who walked happily but a little quieter beside them. And John swore he could see the fraction of a smile forming on the detective's face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello, do you need any help finding something?"
Sherlock, Mycroft, and John turned to see a woman with blonde hair and confused brown eyes smiling at them. She wore a uniform with the store's logo on it and a walkie-talkie at her waist.
"As much help as you need with that crumbling marriage of yours." Sherlock mumbled under his breath. The woman's eyes widened and John elbowed the other man in the ribs.
"What he meant to say," John recovered "Was yes. Do you know where the infant things are?"
The woman, who's name tag read: Anne, nodded wordlessly and led the three men towards the back of the store.
There they encountered rows upon rows of bright colored clothing in very small sizes.
Sherlock picked up a pink dress from one of the racks and held it up to Eris. It was far to short "John can you find one in a larger size?"
"Um, Sherlock. That's the largest size."
The detective frowned and looked at his daughter "How old are you, Eris?"
"Four!" Eris responded, holding up four fingers as well. Then she looked down at the dress and smiled sheepishly at Sherlock "Mommy say I tall for my age."
Mycroft could relate to not fitting into clothing for people his age when he was a child. But instead of being too tall he was...well, you know. He shook his head to clear it and strode towards the kids section, Eris noticing and following out of curiosity.
Mycroft picked out a dark blue dress with sparkly stars decorating it, a red scarf, and a pair of black mary janes.
John and Sherlock walked over to them and the two hid their surprise at Mycroft holding the little girl's clothing. He was acting extremely out of character.
Just then, Mycroft threw the clothing at Sherlock and John, checking his phone. "I must get going, it looks like the results for the interrogations came in." He glanced back up at the two "Pick out some more things if you'd like, I'll put some money into my account that you can use, but I'll know if you use it for something...different, brother."
Sherlock narrowed his eyes "Why are you doing all of this Mycroft? I would never have imagined you of all people would care for Eris."
His brother smirked "Well maybe, Sherlock, I think she deserves more than what she's been given."
Before anyone could respond Mycroft awkwardly pet Eris on the head and left the store, speaking into his phone.
John thought he heard him say the words "Torture." And "Execution."
