Spring Breakers; The Gospel of The Bag

Jayson was in a dilemma... the younger brother of former Super Bowl MVP Chase Butler and had been going back and forth in his dorm. Had there been an assignment overdue that the Michigan wide reciever forgot about and it tanked his grade severely?

Jayson: No, no, no, NO!

Had he forgotten to go to the football facility and get all of his equipment for the upcoming season?

Jayson: I can't decide!

What had been driving the freshman up the wall?

Jayson: Do I go with the Space Jam Jordans' or Air Forces?

Nope... Jayson Butler had been going through it over.... shoes. The talented and former five-star prospect straight out of Dallas, Texas had been packing up for his first ever college summer break trip. After everything had been set up, the proper channels and everyone who had been invited mostly the football team and got the (ahem, pokey poke... don't cry. We won't fight over this), the seniors going into next season had gathered against the raging pandemic and wanted to do a team-building and bonding exercise and what better way to do it for Summer Break. Despite breaking out in his freshman year with just north of 600 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns on 77 receptions, he also posted a respectable 23 carries, 224 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns yet it was a disaster for his team. After a win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Michigan lost three of its four games and to top it off, a COVID spike would rampage through the programs thus forcing the University to cancel its season while they could still save face. It pissed him off, but he could understand, health was a priority, he was just committed on getting better for the next season but now it was a reprieve for him to recharge his soul, mind and body with a trip to the Sunshine State. All seemed to be going well for him going well as a knock sprung at his door.

Olivia: Hey, can I come in Jay?

Jayson: Sure, I'm just finishing up packing up, get on in here.

The gymnast comes as she examines the fully decorated room of her.... crush? Boyfriend? That's right. Olivia Dunne and Jayson Butler, superstars of their respective sports were.... well what were they? Well, IT happened when the two attended a party for freshmen and the two were neck deep into a game of truth, dare or drink. When one of Livvy's gymnast teammates Elena Arenas in conjuction with his teammate Cornelius Johnson dared the duo to kiss. Not allowing each other's prides to be damaged or tarnished, the two sucked it up, confronting any conflicted. Let me just take you all to that night.

(December 31st, 2020... Two hours until the new year.)

The party was in full rage, it was roughly 25 minutes until 11 PM. Olivia Dunne did not know what to do. Her stomach was on butterfly mode, street slang for the New Jersey native gymnast she was in love with a fellow student athlete. She watches as her same grade college goer as he stands imposingly but at the same time relaxed as he shares a few snacks with some of his teammates. She had noticed a little tinge of disappointment dancing in his eyes, had it not been for a spike of COVID inflicted within the football program, Jayson and the football team would more than likely be playing in a bowl game right about now. He was officially pissed off when he like the rest of the team found out that Ohio State, the university's sworn rival The Ohio State Buckeyes made the College Football Playoff.

Elena: It sucks doesn't it. Him not knowing?

Olivia: Honestly. I don't even mind at this point. Jay essentially had his heart ripped out from his chest not even a week ago. Having the season canceled, only for the Buckeyes to make it and not even play us? It's highway robbery.

Elena: Liv, that's not fair to you either. You two have been dancing around each other like crazy and it's pretty obvious you two got it bad for each other.

Olivia: We've only known each other for four months, Elena. That's not nearly enough time to know if Jay's even the One. The only times we've ever hung out were between classes and when he's not in practice.

Elena stews her in mind, back in her home state whenever she had hung out with friends that had gone to schools, she was labled within those friend groups as the "Cupid".

Elena: I've got an idea. Stay here.

She walks over to the wide receiver and he smiles brightly.

Jayson: Hey Elena, what's up?

Elena: Hey Jay, I was wondering if you were up for a game of jokes and laughs?

Jayson: Sure, what's your poison there fellow student-athlete?

Elena glints deviously at her roommate as she sweetly smiles back at her other fellow freshman.

Elena: Wonderful, grab some drinks of your choice. Everyone strap in and gather around, it's time.... FOR TRUTH, DARE OR DRINKKKKK!

Everyone hollers and whoops at her declaration as they grabbed beers, seltzers, anything that could go down a gullet while gathering and forming a giant circle around the living room. Slowly but surely the dares and truths came a flying out of those brave or foolish to step up to the game. It wasn't until Cornelius targeted his teammate that shit really hit the fan.

Corneilus: Alright Jaychocinco.... truth or dare?

Jayson: Come on you should know me.... nothing scares me. Dare and make it really good if you want memories tonight.

Cornelius: Oh you're on.... I dare you to... KISS THE PERSON ON YOUR LEFT!

Jayson looks on horrified as he creaks his head to see... Olivia who looked on equally horrified.

Jayson: OH! W-Well you see, I-I!

Olivia: Did it suddenly get hot in here? It can't just be me!

Aidan Hutchison and Blake Corum looked on confused as they finally realized.

Blake: Holy shit dude.... don't tell us-

Aidan: You're scared!

Jayson: What? OF COURSE NOT, I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF FEAR! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Elena: I'm hearing alot of excuses, Jay..... but I don't see you and Livvy sucking face.

Jayson: You try getting put on the spot! I- uh Liv? Promise you're not gonna keehaul me after this.

Olivia: No.... but I'm going to need several drinks after this. But mom didn't raise a chicken.

Jayson: Same... so uh do we- MMMMPH?!

She suddenly grabs him by the face as the gymnast plants a smoldering kiss on the unaware ambitious college player who returns the kiss with equal parts desire, passion and surprise.

Elena: WOOOOOOOO, GET HIM LIVVY!

They break off their kiss, both student athlete faces flushed completely red as Jayson eep'd.

Jayson: I NEED A MINUTE EVERYONE!

(Flashback Ends)

Jayson finishes up packing up his belonging for his spring break adventure when Livvy picks up the picture, a callback to that infamous New Year's Eve.

Olivia: That was a good night, wasn't it?

Jayson: Outside of me running like a chicken avoiding becoming dinner at a Popeyes? Yeah it was a good night.

ZIPPPPP!

Jayson: So that should be everything....

Olivia: Wait I almost forgot!

She pulls her purse out and hands him a hundred dollar bill.

Jayson: Um, Liv? What's with good ol' Benny there. If you're spotting me, you don't have to worry I've got plenty to survive on.

Olivia: No, I insist. I've gotten so much cash from this sponsorship I've taken, I really don't know what to do with it all.

Jayson: Sponsor.... ship? RIGHT, that whole NIL crap I forgot they recently settled on. I was focused on vacationing, I didn't realize we could essentially get our own bag and get paid for our mere appearances. But that still concerns you, I urge you to keep that. I've gotten my own little emergency funding. You know, from Doordashing and that type of crap job. I might look into this thing and rake up more cash. But enough about that, any plans for the break now that finals are done with?

Olivia: Probably go down and see the family. They've been itching and begging to see what I've been up to in the months since I've deflected from the familial tradition of not going to Baton Rouge and Ann Arbor instead. What about you? What's so appealing about Florida?

Jayson: Well, considering one of the Semi-Finals is going to be in Miami next season... figured we'd manifest what we really deserve, what we were robbed of. I want to at least win one National Championship before I ultimately declare for the NFL.

Olivia: Speaking of, any interest yet from the league yet?

Jayson: Ha! You're funny girl. No, I'd have to wait until at least my junior year to see any real interest pop up. But mock drafts, they're a HELLA a thing.

BEEP BEEP!

Jayson: Sounds like the charter bus... Try to have some fun with the family, catch you back here when we're officially sophomores. Catchya down the road, Dunne.

He ends his rambling with a hug to the gymnast, now motivated to make an even bigger impact with the sophomore year on the come up, his name starting to create major buzz with agents and the college world alike.

END of Chapter Eight. That's right everyone after a lot of deciding and plotting, I've decided going forward Livvy Dunne is our primary love interest as of now. I'll be teasing more of the relationship as of now, as they're more or less casual but they'll get more comfortable as the years go on. Enjoy for now as I continue to cook.
