Chapter 3

Hermione

I don't know why I accepted that. Really.

Bloody request for 'help' from goddamn Draco Malfoy. Yeah.

"'Mione?"

I shift in my seat at History of Magic just to see Ginny. Great. I've got a feeling she wants a blow - by - blow of yesterday's conversation with Malfoy.

"Ginny?"

"What have you drawn on the parchment?"

I was completely taken aback by that line. Drawing on parchment? Ridiculous.

I snort. "What d'you mean by that? Drawing on parchment? I'd rather kill someone."

"No, something's wrong. That's not an object to be drawn on parchment," she says worriedly.

I finally look down at the parchment. My eyes widen.

Godric Gryffindor's sword. A goddamn detailed one at that. What have I been doing?

"I don't understand. How?! How could I have drawn that? I'm sure I've been taking down notes of Professor Binns' lecture, not - not drawing!" I yell, outraged.

"Miss Granger, please do not scream in class, I am giving a lecture on a very important topic, and I am expecting you to take notes and excel in this class like you usually do," Professor Binns' said, cutting through my roar of outrage that led everyone's heads to turn towards me.

Malfoy sniggered. I slowly felt my neck heat up.

"S-sorry professor."

I walked out of History of Magic almost half and hour later and was nearly at the Great Hall when Malfoy came running after me.

"Granger, I have- no, wait listen!" He said quickly, because I had walked away. I really wasn't going to forgive him; even if he had asked me for help, he laughed at my outburst in class. But, I decided to push it away and listen to him.

"What's up?" I said, coolly.

"Granger, I've got a lead," he said, whispering.

What lead? "Um, for what, precisely?"

He groaned. "The sword, you git, the sword!" He said, exasperated.

I raised my eyebrows; normally that would have been my line, but I was genuinely surprised.

Draco

She looked genuinely shocked at this. I internally wanted to insult that so bad, but I held it in and dragged her to the library.

"Okay, okay! Chill!" She shrieked, as we ran through the castle and down the stairs to the library. Eyes were turning to us, but I really didn't care.

"No time, Granger! The sooner we find this, the sooner I can return it!" I retorted, pushing her into a chair and shoving a huge book under her nose. She gasped at the title.

Relics of The Four Founders: Secrets of Hogwarts

"I've seen this book before!" She gasped, her hand at her chest. "It was the book that me, Ron and Harry saw in Dumbledore's office, a while ago!"

She flipped through the pages. "It's about Hogwarts' secrets and the important objects that were owned by the four Founders of Hogwarts!" She declared, excitedly.

I was intrigued. "Granger, I saw the sword last at Malfoy Manor. Where do you think it is now?"

She inhaled deeply. "After we Disapparated from the Manor, we arrived at Shell Cottage, Bill and Fleur's place. We took Ollivander, Griphook, the goblin, Dean Thomas and Luna Lovegood there with us."

She stopped, staring at me.

"Why am I telling you that?"

I sigh. "Granger, it could lead us to the sword."

She nodded and continued. "Well, we arrived there, and made plans to go to Gringotts Bank and find an object that would lead to his death."

I sat down. "Then?"

"We could only ask Griphook for help because he was a goblin, and he knew an awful lot about Gringotts. He said he would help, when we told him what we wanted to do there. Well, we said that we needed to break into-"

She stopped.

"Why? What's wrong?"

She hesitated. "I can't tell you that."

"Was it our vault? Or our family's vault?" I asked her, kindly.

"You'd hate me if I told you." She replied, timidly.

"Granger, my parents are in Azkaban forever, my aunt and uncle are dead, why are you afraid?" I try to reason.

"Fine." She said. "We said that we needed to break into the Lestranges' vault."

I make no reaction. I really didn't find anything to do with that hellhole of a vault, and I didn't care, either.

"Griphook said yes, but he needed payment."

My mouth drops open. "What? And you gave him payment?"

"Well, we needed to!" She retorts defensively.

I roll my eyes. "What did you give him?"

She gasps, her hand flew to her mouth.

I react instinctively, grabbing my wand and looking around quickly. I groan.

"Granger, that was the second time in two days."

She grabs my cloak and shakes me, vigorously.

"I KNOW WHERE IT IS, DRACO!! I REMEMBER!!" She shouts, beaming.

Madam Pince scowls at us over her spectacles.

"If you do that again, I will hex your mouth shut, Granger," she warns, her wand out.

"Alright!" Granger hisses, glaring at the deranged librarian.

"Where is it, Hermione?" I ask her, concentrating on her chocolate brown eyes.

She giggles with glee and says, "It's in Gringotts, Draco, I know it is!"

I smile broadly at her. Finally.

I close my eyes and breathe.

"Let's do this, Granger."

She smirks at me and says, "Oh, this is going to be so awesome."
