Chapter 1
Hermione Granger was leaning against the window in her dorm at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She, and a few of her friends from her previous years at Hogwarts had decided to repeat their final year and complete their education. Something troubled her, though, and it wasn't the new, shiny Head Girl badge pinned on the front of her robes.
"Hey, " came a girl's voice.
Hermione turned, and saw Ginny Weasley smiling at her.
"Hey."
"What's up with you?"
Hermione turned back to the window. "Just thinking..."
Ginny smiled again. "I know how it's turned out, Hermione. The battle's over, and we're all happy again."
Hermione stands. "Yes, Ginny, and I hope it stays that way."
Both of them smile at each other.
"Come on, I daresay Neville and Luna are downstairs already." Ginny holds out her hand.
Hermione goes downstairs to the Great Hall with her. They're happy to see the Hall filled with witches and wizards of all ages eating, chatting and engaging in gossip.
Hermione settles down in her favorite seat at the Gryffindor table, greeted by Neville, and an astonishingly delicious feast already on her golden plate. She starts eating, chatting away to the two of them.
"Do you know that Harry's got a job as an Auror at the Ministry?" Ginny asks her friend.
"Oh, yeah. Harry sent Hedwig the other day, with a message about it. Quite proud of him." Hermione beamed.
Neville smiled. "We're all proud of him, really. He'd make a great Auror."
The girls beamed. Hermione ate her dinner, very happy and satisfied. She felt as if nothing could ever spoil that moment. Not even Draco Malfoy staring at her with an odd expression on his face from the Slytherin table.
She looked at him, raised her eyebrows and turned away. Ginny smirked.
"Still hate him, do you?"
Hermione scoffed. "Of course I do. After what he did last year, I doubt anyone except the Slytherins would have the respect to even look at his ferret face."
Ginny nodded approvingly.
Hermione decides to change the subject. "Neville, how's Luna? I'm thinking about talking to her after dinner."
Neville shoveled mashed potatoes into his mouth. "Yeah, she's good. She's training to be a member of the Wizengamot. She's training with some Muggle lawsuit. To have an idea, I suppose."
Hermione nodded. "It's good to have training, even if you've got to resort to Muggle methods."
Ginny smiled. "Yup. How is it with Ron?"
Hermione's expression darkened and turned stony. "That foul little git didn't tell you what he did, did he?"
Ginny frowned. "What?"
"He dumped me for Lavender. He said I wasn't good enough for him. I just walked out on him after that, and trust me, I do not regret it."
She spooned some treacle on to her plate and grabbed an èclair from the nearby dish.
Ginny smiled. "I'm glad you're not giving it any thought. He doesn't deserve you either, Hermione."
Hermione smiled and shoved the last bit of èclair into her mouth. The three of them were just about to wash their hands and leave for bed, when,--
"GRANGER!"
