High School

Arthur waited out in the cold. He was a senior in high school. He looked up as he saw the leaves on the trees begin to fall softly. Arthur spaced out for another three minuets until he heard the familiar clinking of chains, and the soft rumble from the distance. The bus was coming. The bus rolled down the road and came to a stop before Arthur. He got on the bus last, did I mention he doesn't like people?

He stepped onto the bus and went to a random empty seat. One that he 'thought' wasn't near anybody. Unfortunately for him his assumption was wrong. He took in a long sigh and shivered. And then he sneezed. He had started coming down with a cold but he couldn't just skip school from a petty little thing. He pulled his jacket around him tighter and leaned on the window, resting his head on the cold glass. The bus moved on.

He started to drift off until he heard a loud laughter. He sat up and looked into the seat behind him. There behind him sat a loud American. Arthur thought to himself. 'Where have I seen him? Oh! I remember....he was that poor boy that always got picked on...'. Arthur continued to think to himself when someone poked his shoulder. It was the American.

"Wh-what?" Arthur studdered.

The American chuckled. Then stood up and sat in the empty seat across from him, the bus still moving. The cheerful boy flashed a bright smile and said, "I saiiiid, dude you look really pale! Are you okay? And why are your hands so blotchy?"

Arthur looked down at his hands. They were always like that when they got cold. Not like normal people. He got cold easily, and sometimes too hot. When he was too cold his fingertips would turn a light purple, and when it was hot, they would turn red. He never wore any gloves because the ones he had were fingerless. He didn't want to talk about it..."No, no. I'm alright. No need to worry. Thank you." Arthur replied.

The American stared at Arthur for a moment before taking his own gloves off and handing them Arthur. Arthur took them hesitantly, looking at the boy with a cautious glint in his eyes. "Go on! Take em!" The boy said, smiling. Arthur put on the gloves. Feeling the previous warmth that was in the gloves.

Arthur wasn't used to people. But he smiled and said. "Thank you.".

The American did a mock salute and winked. "No problem bro!". The boy turned to his twin brother in the other seat and continued a conversation about an anime they watched. 'Maybe it's time to make some real friends...' Arthur thought to himself. A small smile crept on his lips as he butted into the conversation.

"You know....I...like anime as well." Arthur said to the pair with a soft grin.

The American made an, 'oh my god' face. Mouth open agape. "Dude! No way! Are you serious?!" The boys mouth formed a wide smile.

The three talked about anime until the bus reached their destination. Arthur was walking off the bus when the American grabbed his arm. "Hey, you can hang out with me and Mattie before school starts!" He finished.

Arthur shook his hand free and sighed. "Well....I don't have anything better to do." He smiled.

"Yahoo!" The boy jumped in the air, and grabbed his hand, shaking it with much enthusiasm. "The names is Alfred!" The Ameri- I mean...Alfred, said.

Arthur shook his hand back, with much less energy. "Arthur." He said. The twins led Arthur inside to hang out and chat before school.
