~19~
Hey y'all! It's been a while but thank goodness not as long as last time. I'll try to make a new schedule so I'll be able to get back on track, but you know how it is. School work is a demon. Anyway, here is the fabulous new chapter!
Warning: Mentions of past tortures, manly screaming, less manly screaming, personal space being ignored, important things being broken, offended Roman, etc.
Enjoy!
Roman
“AAAAAAAAAAAAH!” I flew back, plastic lightsaber in front of me. Yes I brought a plastic lightsaber to a haunted house that wants to rip me to pieces. Don’t. Judge. I heard footsteps running in the hall behind me before the door flew open again.
“Roman!”
“What happened?!” Came a chorus of both Logan and Virgil’s voices. They looked over my shoulder and paused.
“... You’ve gotta be kidding me,” Virgil scoffed. He walked over to the monstrosity and picked it up.
“Don’t touch it!!!” I exclaimed in the strongest voice I could muster.
“Roman. It’s a jumping spider. It’s not gonna hurt you.”
“Going to,” Logan corrected, which received a half hearted eye roll from the emo.
“It’s still a spider!”
“... Roman.. Did you bring a plastic lightsaber..?” I flushed and turned to Logan, regaining the last of my dignity.
“Of course I did, who knows what ghostly monsters we will find here!” He sighed, “Oh come on! Just because I don’t think Patton is being haunted, doesn’t mean I don’t think this place is haunted!” I put a hand to my heart to demonstrate how serious I was. I don’t understand why they decided to judge me like this! “You guys are honestly being so homophobic right now.”
“None of the things we stated related to the lgbt community and we’re both gay,” Logan stated in his annoying nerd way.
“Well obviously,” I scoffed, “You guys judging me is homophobic.” Virgil let out a long sigh.
“I will never get you,” Virgil grumbled. Wow. Rude.
I was a second away from snapping back before Logan so rudely spoke before me, “Why don’t we keep searching? We may find something of interest.”
“I think I found something,” Virgil took on, stepping forward, “Before you screamed, I found a locked door that looks like it wasn’t touched or messed with besides some caution tape on the front.” Logan tilted his head as if he found that interesting. Why would that be interesting? It probably means the room is boring.
Logan nodded, “Let’s go,” Ugh, I swear. I’m only going with them because they need protection and they aren’t the ones with the weapon. Okay and before you point it out, I know a plastic lightsaber wouldn’t really affect a ghost, but shhhhh it’s better than nothing. I crept behind Logan with Virgil at the lead. The stairs felt rickety and I swear, we were going to fall through and meet some demon king. A small breeze came from behind me and I turned quickly, eyes clenched shut as I swung my weapon. “... Roman.. There’s nothing there.” I opened my eyes.
“Uh, obviously,” I chuckled nervously and brushed off my uneasy feeling, “I just wanted to make sure you were ready for anything, Mac.”
“... My name is Logan.”
“No like.. Mac book.. Smart computers.. You know,” Logan raised his eyebrows at me. “Oh shush,” I closed my lightsaber again which made the classic Shhhwwp sound. These nerds have no class.
We finished our venture up the stairs and I felt the hair on the back of my neck rise. There it was. It was obvious that that door was the door Virgil was talking about. It was eerily clean and didn’t look like it was touched since the 14 hundreds. Well, besides the lazily draped on cautious tape, but that looked more like it was halfheartedly added on. It was only touching the doorframe too, which is weird. Could the ghost be against any and all things touching this room? Logan stepped forward, looking at the door, “Why would people leave this room alone specifically…” He muttered to himself under his breath.
“I don’t know, maybe because a ghost lives there?!” I exclaimed. Come on, this should be obvious. Logan sighed. I looked to Virgil for support but he was just staring at the door silently. I waved my hand in front of his face, "Hellooo, earth to Virgil?"
Virgil blinked before slapping my hand. "Ow! Hey! You're the one zoning out"
"Shh!" Virgil scolded me, a finger to his lips.
I scoff, "Why are you shush-" he put a hand over my mouth and I tried to make noises in protest.
He hissed into my ear, "listen". I paused and looked around silently, "Do you hear that?" Virgil pulled away and looked to Logan who nodded. I closed my eyes and listened closer, but still hollow silence echoed in my ears.
“Hear what?”
“Shhh!” We stood in silence, “It’s like… old music.” Logan nodded again to his words. Great so apparently there’s old music playing and I can’t hear it. I’m probably gonna be the one taken out. I popped out my lightsaber again and slowly approached the door. “Roman, what are you-” I took a breath before kicking in the door.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” I screeched, charging into the room. You can’t kill me if I have the element of surprise.
Sadly, my dramatic entrance was interrupted. By me tripping on the carpet.
...
And falling on my face.
...
Ow.
“Roman!” Virgil was by my side, helping me up. I glanced over at Logan. He stayed in the same place, eyes darting around the room as he sucked all of it in. I got slapped over the back of the head, “You can’t just go barging into a spooky locked door!”
“Well you guys weren’t doing anything!” Virgil scoffed and looked around the room. I glanced around. The room was musky and smelled like old people and.. Also a hint of chicken nuggets. Weird. There was a bed, a vanity, a dresser… It was actually pretty boring. But the bed frame was cool. It was like this deep… wood… color. Fancy words, blah blah blah. There was nothing that showed there could be a spooky demon here. Well, besides this room remaining in perfect condition, but the people who work at the haunted house could do it for spooky effect or something. But it doesn’t look like it’s been opened in a while… huh.
“GET OUT OF MY ROOM” I jumped five feet and swung my lightsaber around quickly.
“Sh-Show yourself!” I shouted out in the strongest voice I could muster. Virgil would have pointed out my voice crack, but he was too busy clinging to my arm and looking around quickly. I felt myself tremble and clenched my jaw. I can’t show this beast fear. Who knows, it might suck up my soul if I- Nope nope! Not thinking about that!
“I SAID GET OUT! GO! SHOO! BEGONE ILL BREADED SWINE!” Logan looked like the only calm one, though slightly startled by the demonic disembodied voice. He looked around carefully and turned to us before grabbing Virgil’s arm and leading him out who dragged me along with him. I was reluctant to leave such a glorious battle, but oh well.
Logan didn’t question me as I bolted out of the room first. Once out of the room, Logan looked back curiously though cautiously.
“Forgive us the intrusion,” He said in a surprisingly calm voice. Holy frick Logan what the heck, at least act as freaked out as you should be! “We came here to ask you some questions.” Ask?! Hold up, no one told me we were talking to this thing! I made noises of protest which Logan only squinted at before looking back to the door. The door swung shut and I could tell whatever spirit was here was pissed.
“Maybe we should head back-” I started but was so rudely interrupted by Vigil.
“That’s him...” Virgil muttered. I glanced at him. “That’s the voice.. The voice the person impersonating Patton had.” The angry swirling vibe thingy, I don’t know I’m not a geologist, seemed to pause at that. A chuckle rang out.
“So that’s why you’re here…” I glanced at Logan nervously, “Of course.. Of course you would come here.. Did you not see the ‘do not enter’ sign? Maybe humans forgot how to read. Or maybe it’s just you,” I felt wind blow against me with such a strong force, I stumbled back. Virgil’s eyes widened.
“Stop it! Enough of the room thing! Where’s Patton?! What did you do to him?!” The spirit seemed to grow sterner before chuckling.
“Patton..Patton..Hmmm Oh yes. I know him. He came here all alone. What a fun time.”
“Answer the questions!” The voice let out a bone chilling laugh.
“Patton… Well I know one thing, he's definitely not on Earth,” Virgil let out a growl and Logan put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. I kept my lightsaber out in front of me, glaring all around. I felt my weapon slowly get drawn from my grip and I held on tighter and leaned back.
“Hey!” With one last tug, it was drawn from my grip and I went tumbling backwards on the floor. HoW dArE tHaT tHiNg TaKe My LiGhTsAbEr AnD sEnD mE tUmBlInG tO tHe GrOuNd! Virgil helped pull me to my feet and I looked around quickly for my weapon, “Give that back you absolute ostrich tail feather!”
The lightsaber floated up to the ceiling and turned on and off. The ghost chuckled, “What a neat little toy..” It snapped in half before falling to my feet. I gasped and looked at it with wide eyes.
“Hey!” Virgil protested, “Stop it! Just.. What did you do to Patton?!?!”
“Hmmmmm.. What did I do… What did I do… What if I told you I rammed a pencil through his leg? What if I told you I shoved needles under his fingernails so he couldn’t use his hands for a week? What if I told you I whipped him and forced him to go to school right after? What if I told you I left him to bleed out on his bedroom floor, not caring if he died or not because his life is meaningless to me?” My blood ran cold and I slowly looked to Logan and Virgil. Virgil was frozen, pain and rage were clear on his face as tears gathered in his eyes. Logan looked like he was frozen on the spot, as if he had stage fright and was in front of a giant audience. How… How could the voice do that to him… How could anybody do that to anyone else. I.. I wasn’t there to protect him from this spirit then. But I will be now. The voice quietly chuckled, “You should see the look on your faces~”
“You monster! Patton didn’t do anything wrong! He never hurts or does anything to upset others! How could you!” Virgil’s hands were curled into fists and tears fell from his eyes, face tinted red. “How could you hurt someone so innocent! He never did anything to you- He’s never done anything to anyone! He’s the most caring and hardworking person I know!” The spirit remained silent as they listened to Virgil, if it was even still here, “Leave him alone! You can’t… You can’t do that!” The voice still remained silent. Logan put a gentle hand on Virgil’s back who clenched his eyes and looked down, taking shaky breaths. Still, the spirit didn’t say anything. The feeling of the room changed from intimidating and fierce to a feeling I couldn’t exactly place. It felt almost sad and mournful.
Virgil wiped an eye, “Where. Is. Patton?” Silence rang through the house like a broken church bell.
“..I think they’re done speaking with us today.” Virgil looked back at Logan, “... We should discuss what we learned without the extra presence.” Virgil looked down but nodded slightly. How… How could we just leave at that? I swear… We will save you, Patton. No matter what spirits we must face.
