Deceit pov
As soon as Patton turned to open the door, I made myself invisible. I'm going to follow him, and it does no good if everyone can see me. He turned around one last time and sighed when he noticed I wasn't there. I make it out the door before he shuts it and I heard a barely audible whisper, "Here we go."

He began his trek home. I watched as he winced at each step. Patton must have hid his pain when around people, he didn't appear to be in this much pain before. He was being painfully slow, and it took everything in me not to help. No. You are just following him to solve Mary's stupid mystery. I want to stay out of this as much as possible and go back to my lonely existence when this is done. You thought you saw some romance a few chapters ago? It was nothing! Drop it! No big deal. I just helped him and swore to avenge him. No big deal. Nothing romantic going on!

After almost an hour of walking, we reached a neat building. It was a single story house that was very well taken care of. Unlike the other guy's house, man 2's, I believe. This house was cold and seemed to have an intimidating feeling, which is saying something, coming from me and all. I literally live in a haunted house. Patton took a deep breath as he hobbled up to the door. "Just get it over with. You are brave." He whispered to himself. With that, he entered the house.

Then the glass shattered.

I whisked in when I heard a large thump on the ground. "You idiotic piece of trash!" The woman started to advance on Patton, who had ducked down to avoid getting hit by the glass bottle. Patton had ducked so quickly, he ended up falling and yelping in pain as his back hit the ground. "You pathetic, worthless, mistake!" She continued to shout at him. Patton was silent, taking in the insults and curling in on himself. He began to whimper quietly. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" She shouted at him and he looked up at her. She was now standing over him and glaring down at him with all the disgust she could muster. She smacked him hard across the cheek, but Patton barely flinched. I couldn't move. She grabbed Patton's hair and began yanking him into a different room. He yelped in pain, but couldn't do much with his bad leg. She continued to spit disgusting words at him as she dragged him to one of the many rooms in the house. She threw him on the floor. What do I do? What do I do! "Just wait till your father gets home, you filthy, no good, useless, weak, mistake!" She sent a forceful kick into his stomach and growled out her last words, "You better start working on dinner if you don't want us to have any more reason to punish you." She then marched off.

Patton began shaking and muttering to himself over and over, "Weak. Useless. Mistake. Not good enough. Try harder. Weak. Useless…" I couldn't stand it anymore! I rushed over to him and engulfed him in a hug. He had stopped muttering and had a confused expression on his face. His eyes darted around, but he couldn't see anyone. He clenched his eyes closed for a few more seconds as he tried to steady his breathing.

"I don't hear cooking!" A harsh shout came from another room and Patton scrambled to his feet. Or, he tried to. His crutch was left in the other room, so he had to crawl back to the front door to get it. Once he was on his feet again, he went into the kitchen. It was a large and beautiful kitchen with marble counters and two ovens. The cabinets were made out of rosewood and they were huge. Patton immediately got into a rhythm. He was someone else in the kitchen, even with his crutch. It was like he was home. This is his happy place and his kitchen.

He pulled the dinner and cookies he had made out of the oven, when the front door opened. Patton froze. He heard footsteps and quickly retreated from the kitchen's entrance. He closed the oven and set the cookies on the counter. He checked the time. Seven. Patton mouthed two words, "He's late," the panic was clear in his eye. I guess him being late usually means a bad thing for Patton.

The door to the kitchen flew open as a large man in a business suit stormed in. He grabbed Patton by the wrist and dragged him out, leaving the crutch and dinner behind. Patton yelped in pain, causing the man to yell at him for being weak. I want to fly in and rip this man's head off, but now isn't the time. I don't know why, but I feel like the time will come, and when it does, I will slaughter this monster… after gently nudging him… down a flight of stairs.

The man threw Patton into a room down the hall, then shouted, "We'll talk after dinner!" Wow. He sure has his priorities straight. He slammed the door and I traveled through the wall to see Patton had curled in on himself again and was struggling to control his breathing. I made myself visible, and Patton jumped.

"W-what are you doing here?!" He asked in a hushed whisper.

"I am here to do the dishes." I reply sarcastically, waving my bright yellow gloves in front of his face. "Why do you think I'm here?" He shrunk back a bit with my tone.

"D-did you see…" I nodded solemnly, "Then there's no use in trying to hide it, I guess." He looked down at the floor, as if expecting me to yell at him too. When I don't say anything, he looks back up. I look at the boy on the floor. His glasses are askew and hair is a mess. He had blood on the corner of his lip and tears were threatening to fall. I surveyed the room we were in. It appeared to be Patton's bedroom. It had a bed in the corner, a window on the wall, and a dresser. The room was very empty otherwise. He had a single picture on the wall. It was one of him and a group with three other boys his age. One had purple hair and a black hoodie. The second one had brown hair with a red-ish tint and a white shirt with a crown on it. The last member had black hair that was neatly combed back and rectangular glasses. He had a black polo shirt with a blue necktie. All four boys looked like they were having the time of their lives. Underneath the boys were big letters that said, FAM I. L. Y. Patton caught my stare.

"My friend Virgil drew that for me." Someone drew that? How does it look so realistic? "He had me for Secret Santa. It was this last year, actually." He smiled at the memory. I quickly turned the conversation back on him.

"How long has this been going on?" He bit his lip.

"What do you mean?" Confusion spread across his face. Isn't it obvious? I roll my eyes, not in a joking mood

"How long has your family been treating you like this?" I asked, obviously annoyed. He flinched at my tone, and I started to regret using it, but it's too late for that. He mumbled something out. "Oh please keep that up, I absolutely love it when I can't understand you." I exasperatedly expressed.

"I've never been treated any better," I froze and looked at him. So this kid has never been treated like an actual human being? No wonder he treated me as he did when he knew I was already dead. This kid has survived years being treated worse than a dog. I swear I am going to go murder someone. He noticed my mood changing and quickly rushed in, "Don't worry about it! It's fine. I probably deserve it anyways. It's nothing to get worked up about." Aw heck no. He can't be serious! I growl at him and he shrunk some more.

"What could you possibly do to deserve this?" I hissed at him, teeth clenched. I motioned to his entire body and Patton chewed on his lip.

"Sometimes I'm late, or I make mistakes. When I don't do that…" he trailed off as tears started to trail down his cheeks. "I think… I think it's because I exist." He hastily swiped away his tears and offered a small laugh, as if it will make everything better. There were large footsteps and Patton quickly whimpered at me, "Please don't interfere. It will only end up being worse for me. Please." Okay… well… What do I do? Just sit back and watch? That doesn't sound reasonable, but I don't want to cause further harm. Reluctantly, I turn myself invisible and watch two figures storm into the room.

"What the *** were you thinking?!" The male thundered. He stormed up to the cowering Patton. He forcefully grabbed Patton's arm and dragged him out into the hall, where the woman stood. Patton yelped at the contact, making me think that they had previously done something to that arm as well. He had bitten down on his lip, trying to stay silent. A small whimper escapes from him anyway, causing the woman to scowl. The man dragged him to a door that I had previously assumed belonged to a closet. He opened the door and dragged Patton painfully down a long staircase. I floated behind them in shock. Patton had his eyes scrunched closed now. He was silent. It was almost as if he had accepted his fate. The downstairs was huge and open. It looked very neat and well put together.

They turned at the first door into, what I can assume, is a room that is meant for food storage. However, the room had to be unlocked by the father with a key on a necklace he wore. They stormed into the room and I held back a gasp.

The room had a concrete floor, like most food storage areas. But unlike most food storage rooms, this one didn't have any food in it. Instead, it has a metal chair in the middle of the room with handcuffs attached to it. It also had blood stains splattered all over the floor and on the chair itself. I can easily guess whose and the thought makes me sick. This room held years worth of evidence of a crime, and Patton thinks he deserves this? Lining the walls, were shelves full of different sized silver cases.

The man strapped Patton down in the chair as the mother came in behind and grabbed one of the many silver cases on the walls. She softly locked the door behind herself as she approached her husband and son. The man smiled at her and gave her a kiss. She smirked back at him and held open the case for him. It took everything in me to stay silent and not interfere when I saw what rested in the case. The man took out the first needle and approached the young boy.
