Hiccup's POV

Previously:

There's no more stalling. There's no more ways of distracting Dagur. He finally found a way to carry out the torture without burning his own hand. He found a thick glove, stuffed in the corner of the room, so he's able to safely hold the rod. This isn't great news to receive, trust me.

Now:

Yeah, I'm going to die. I never thought this would be the way I'd go out, I always thought I'd be carried off by a dragon during a raid, or cast out to sea by (what was then) my tribe. I never thought I'd die by the hands of the lunatic, Dagur. I mean, there was that one time we went swimming, but that was years ago.

"I am so excited, brother!" Dagur grins, swinging the rod around slightly as he pushes me against the wall with his other hand.

"I'm honoured," I retort.

"I've been waiting for this day!"

"Good for you."

"It's been all this time since I first got you, dear brother!" He continues, gritting his teeth as if frustrated. "It's been so hard to keep quiet! Do you want to know how hard it is?!"

"No, actually, I think I'll pass."

He stops and looks at me. "You're an annoying little runt, but I'll admit, you bring the funny!" He exclaims brightly. He shoves me against the wall again, sending a pang of pain to my head. "But it doesn't change anything." He lifts up the metal. "Your mouth will get you nowhere." Subtly, I slip my hand towards my waist band. My heart pounds loudly. "It doesn't change a thing." He draws it towards my throat. My hand closes around the handle of the blade. But I don't do anything else, my mind racing as I try to find a way out. There has to be a way out...

Toothless' POV

Previously:

I turn and continue down the path, following Hiccup's scent; it's been getting stronger the last few minutes, which means I'm getting close.

Now:

The scent is leading me all over the ship, at times, but it's never long before I get my bearings. My echolocation is especially handy in navigating the ships hallways. Strange thing is, I'm headed further and further away from the cells and closer to the deck of the ship. Why would Dagur want to take his prisoners outside? Where there's a higher risk of escape? It doesn't make sense to me.

I follow the scent and come to a door. It's narrow, too narrow for me to fit through, but I know this is the door hiccup went through. It's where his scent leads.

Looking around, I don't spot any alternative doors. So I just charge a plasma blast, and knock a giant hole through the wall. I jump through, met with sunshine as I land on the deck. Interesting.

Looking around, I don't spot Hiccup. I spot a few workers in distance, but pay them no mind because they look in no rush to approach me. Instead I concentrate on finding Hiccup's scent again, though it's really hard because of the sea spray and the wind. I'm about to start panicking, thinking I've lost the trail, when I hear it. His voice.

Ears pricked, I look around for the noise. Across the deck I see it, a small forge. Much like the one we went in back at Berk, when the saddle connection got twisted. I see smoke rising up through the roof, and I hear noises coming from within. I take off for it without hesitation, praying I won't be late. Please be ok, Hiccup.

Hiccup's POV

"You don't— you don't have to do this." I mutter, pressed as far up against the wooden wall as possible. "You can make the right choice, Dagur." My heart beats fast, my eyes darting around for a way out. But there's nothing I can do. Even if, by some miracle, I'm fast enough to raise the blade without Dagur being able to stop, I doubt I'll actually be able to do much damage. I don't have the power behind the swing.

Dagur sneers, edging the blade towards my throat. "Oh, but this is the right choice!" He smirks. I gulp, sweat dripping down my back. He can't be reasoned with. Men without reason cannot be reasoned with. My fingers grip tightly around the blade. So I have to take matters into my own hands. Or die trying.

What happens next happens so fast I'm not entirely sure it happened at all. For a second I think I'm dead and that scorching metal has passed right through me. But apparently not.

One minute, I'm up against the wall, Dagur holding the hot metal an inch from my throat with one hand and pinning me down with the other. No escape.

The next minute I'm on the ground, my heart pounding like it's going to come out of my chest, while smoke fills the room.

"I'm going to RIP you limb from limb!"

My head snaps up and I gasp, seeing Toothless standing over Dagur. His tail twitches, his wings are flared, and smoke puffs out of his nostrils as he practically vibrates with deep rage.

Scrambling to shaky feet, I survey the scene in front of me. Dagur lays sprawled on the ground, gasping for breath. He still grips the metal pole, but he doesn't seem to notice quite yet because he's too busy trying to figure out why he's on the ground. As the last of the smoke leaves the room, I see the gaping hole where the forge door should have been. So he blasted his way in and tackled Dagur away from me? I think.

"Toothless." I growl. I barely register that I'm speaking in Dragonese. "We need to... we need to go." I don't want to stay here, I don't want to be here when Dagur regains his bearings.

Toothless doesn't outwardly react to me, hissing down at Dagur. "I can't wait to see your blood oozing between my claws."
I frown, inching closer, but I can't get close because Toothless' wings are still flared as wide as they can go in the small place. His eyes are narrow with rage, he doesn't even look at me when I speak to him again. "Toothless. Come on."

And then I notice Dagur looking at the metal pole in his hands, still red hot. His fingers clench. Oh my gods, he's going to hit Toothless. "TOOTHLESS WATCH OUT!" I roar, panic running through me. Tootgless' ears prick. Dagur swings. Toothless ducks out of the way, backing up a few steps and snarling at Dagur.

I scramble forwards, this time making it to Toothless' side. "We need him out of here. I can make a tail." I hiss in Dragonese, knowing I can't let Dagur know the plan. "We can use that rod."
I then turn to Dagur. "Drop the metal, Dagur." I order, glaring down at him. "You lose. Drop it. Now."
Dagur clenches his jaw. "No." So I gesture to Toothless, who starts charging up a plasma blast in his throat, the purple glow visible when he opens his mouth.
"I've never seen what it does close range, you know." I smirk down at Dagur. He scowls, but then drops the metal which hits the floor with a clunk. Toothless doesn't stop charging his plasma blast, so I cue him too. After a second, he lets it go.

"Dagur, unlike you, I am feeling... reasonable." I tell him, trying to keep the shake out of my voice. "Go. You have two seconds to get out of here before my patience runs out. Before his runs out. I won't hold him back."

Dagur glares at me, "all of a sudden so brave, are we?" He slowly gets up. Toothless lets out a low snaring growl. Dagur glares at me again. "Fine. But this isn't over." He warns me, before dashing out of the door— or where the door is meant to be.

I wait a second, craning my neck to be sure he's gone, before exhaling. I shove my hands under my shirt and pull out the cloth. Toothless watches the door area for a few more seconds, before he lets his defences drop. He calms down, his eyes the big and round ones I'm used to. Quickly, I walk over to a workbench and clear a space. We need to be quick, he won't stay away for long. He'll not be alone when he returns, either.

"Okay, bud, I'm just gonna shape this into a tail fin really quickly, then we can use this—" I explain, picking up the rod with some metal clamps laying on the table. "For the connection rod." I dump it into a barrel of water. It's in the right shape anyway, the holes I pocked did well, so I shouldn't need to reshape it much.
"How quickly do you think you can do this?" Toothless asks, "I can still hear him."

Taking the blade, I start cutting the cloth into a rough tail fin shape, there's not a lot I need to do, anyway. "Hopefully I can be quick," I respond, digging around the place for some metal so I can reinforce the 'membrane' of the fin. I find some in the bottom of a box, and bend them into shape.

"Are you ok, bud?" I ask, working as quickly as possible. "Hurt?"

"I'm fine, they were too scared to come near me." Toothless responds, which has me instantly relieved. "And you? Is it bad?"

"It's...it'll be fine, I'll live." I phrase my words carefully, closing up the cloth. "Gods, I can't wait to get off this ship."

"It's been long awaited." He agrees.

A few minutes pass and I am able to finish up the tail. I lay it oit next to his real one. It's not the worst I could have done, but I could have done better if I had more material and time.
"Alright, now the rod." I mutter, pulling it out and starting to hammer it. As I work, my mind goes to Bo.

"There's another prisoner, he was opposite me. I want to help him." I tell Toothless. "I know I'm asking a lot, we really should just leave... but I can't in good conscious leave him. He helped me. I owe it to him to try."

"Anyone who helped you is a friend of mine. There is a Nadder I heard not far from where I was." Toothless responds.
"We'll free it, too." I agree, finishing up on the rod. I hold it up in front of me, examining it. It'll have to do. I gesture Toothless to come over. He does, and I crouch down and fit the tail and connection rod. I straighten out the rest of the metal the best I can, knowing that it won't last forever. Like I said, it's not my best work. But it's all we've got. It should hold up in flight for now, until we make better arrangements. "Hows that feel bud?" I ask, sitting back once I've fitted it as well as it can be. He brings his tail around to his face, examining it.
"It'll have to do," he responds. He then gestures to his back, "lets do this." I climb up there quickly, and we head out the door-hole.

As soon as we emerge, I spot Dagur running towards us flanked by there guards. He lets out a war cry, and I hold on tight to Toothless. "C' mon bud, let's go." I urge him. He grows in agreement and jumps up onto the group of people, knocking them all down before taking off into a run while they lay dazed. We enter the below deck again and I exhale in relief.

"Good job, bud!" I praise him. "Now let's hurry."

We take off through the twisting halls, quickly working our way to the cells with a little direction from my part. I find myself constantly watching our back, paranoid that Dagur will somehow find us. Gods, this ship is huge. It must be the biggest in his fleet.

"So what's this Bo like?" Toothless asks as we move. We're only a few corners away.
"He's quiet, but he seems really nice. He's been here for six months, apparently." I respond. "He helped me."
"Six months? Wow. I wonder what got him here." Toothless wonders.
"He never said. He doesn't like talking about it, apparently." I explain.

Finally we round the corner and come to the cells. We stop in front and I get off Toothless, looking into Bo's cell. I see him sitting against the back wall, head down and resting an arm on his knee.

"Bo." I whisper sharply, and he looks up startled.
"Hiccup?" He whispers, standing. "Dagur was... how are you still alive?!" He steps out of the shadows, sounding rattled but excited.
I give him a smile. "Yeah, we managed to escape. For now."
"We?" He approaches the front of the cell, confused.
Toothless appears next to me, regarding him with a curious stare. Bo screams and jumps back, startled.
"Oh—dragon!" His words come out jumbled as he tries to make sense of everything. I pat Toothless' head, chuckling.
"This is Toothless," I explain, hoping Bo will calm down. "He won't hurt you."
Toothless warbles friendlily, making him appear as nonthreatening as he can be. "I don't hurt friends of Hiccup."

Bo exhales, supporting himself with his hand on the wall. "R-right. I forgot." He runs a free hand down his face. "Gods, so you really were telling the truth. A small part of me was in denial and thinking you were mad." He chuckles at the last sentence and I smile and shake my head.
"I'm no mad than the next guy," I grin, spreading my arms.
"So, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be, like, flying away?" He asks me. "Don't get me wrong, thanks for telling me you're ok! But If I were you I wouldn't stay."

"Oh, right. We're here to bust you out." I explain, and his eyes go wide. "You can come with us, we can be free!" I pitch.

"I... I don't know." He mutters, messaging his neck and avoiding eye contact. "I don't think I should."

"What are you talking about? You're a prisoner! Of course you should leave if you have the opportunity!"

"Why'd you want to stay in this dump?" Toothless agrees with a short.

"But criminals should be locked up." Bo states softly, his gaze downcast as he appears to self reflect.

"What are you saying?" I ask him.

"It's just... I'm a criminal. I've been here for so long, yet it's all I hear. That I'm a criminal. And I've done some crappy things, Hiccup." He looks me in the eyes, and I see his are filled with sadness. "I don't think I deserve to be free."

"I find it very hard to believe that." I cross my arms. "You? A criminal? The guy that gave up his meal just to be sure I'd eat properly? Yeah, no, Doesn't ring a bell, I'm sorry."

He doesn't seem all the way convinced, so I continue. "And even if it were true, which I still think it'd not, I believe in second chances. There are always second chances."

He pauses, reflecting. But I think he needs one more push.
"We don't have a lot of time, Hiccup." Toothless warns me softly. I give a slight nod to show him I heard.

"We can take you home, Bo. I promise you."

At that, he takes a breath in. I give him a second to mull it over and look around us wearily. Toothless is right, we really don't have a lot of time. If we want to find the Nadder and get it out of here, we need to be quick.

"Okay." Bo speaks up and I turn back to look at him. "I'll—I'll come."

I grin, delighted. "Okay, that's great! Stand as far back as you can, hes gonna blow it." I direct, and Bo nods and moved back to the back wall. I signal to Toothless and he lets out a large plasma blast, striking the bars and sending up smoke. When the smoke clears, there's a gaping hole. Wow, he really likes blowing holes in everything today.

Bo scrambles through to join us in the hall. "Can you find the Nadder, bud?" I ask Toothless. Toothless pauses and looks around, before letting out a sound and waiting for it to bounce back to him. Echolocation is so cool.

His ears prick up, and I stay as silent as I can to give him a chance to listen.
"It's still here," he confirms after a moment. "I have a vague idea of where it is, hopefully it'll become easier the closer we get."

"We're going to rescue a dragon while we're here," I inform Bo, who had been watching in confusion.
"They keep the dragons on the lower deck, like I said before." Bo responds. "That's probably our best bet."

I nod in agreement and hop onto Toothless. I outstretch a hand to Bo. "Coming?"
He gulps. Toothless looks back at him with slight unease. "It'll be fine," I assure Bo with a small smile. And probably Toothless, too. Reluctantly, Bo comes closer and gets on behind me. "I-If you're sure."
I give him a smile over shoulder, "Yep." Toothless starts walking, willing to get this over with. It probably feels weird to have someone else on his back besides me. I look down at his scales and give him an assuring pat. I'll have to make another saddle, it'll be more comfortable for everyone involved.

The next few minutes are spent in silence as we manoeuvre around the halls in search for the dragon. We're all on ease, just waiting to run into a guard or worse, Dagur. But luckily we make it to the lowest level without incident.

"Alright bud, do your thing." I tell him quietly. Toothless' ears prick as he listens to the environment. After a few seconds he takes off running, causing Bo to yelp and hang on to me. We come to some kind of cell, the door made of metal and bolted close. I hear a dragons growl behind it.

"You want a piece of me?! Try me!" It threatens.

"It's probably scared." I whisper. "Blast the door down, hopefully when it sees we're not a Berserker it'll calm down."

Toothless lets out a powerful blast which knocks the door right down. I guess it's not as strong as the Berserkers would hope.

In the back of the cell is a green female Nadder, there's a chain holding her mouth shut but that's all the restriction she has. Spines line the walls, evidence that she's fought people in here. The Nadder growls, defensively raising her tail at us. I can imagine why, the poor thing must feel cornered.

"Easy, there." I try to sooth, but she just narrows her eyes at me.
"F**king try me, scaleless. I'll tear you to shreds. Stay back!"

Toothless starts to growl, but I ease him with a pat. Okay, if she doesn't like me speaking I might have to try getting through to her with Dragonese.

"Easy, we're here to help." I chortle. The dragon pauses, but doesn't put her guard down. "We want to set you free. We were... captured ourselves."

"Let us help." Toothless adds. "We mean no harm."

She huffs, pacing as she eyes us distrustfully. "Why should I trust you?"

"You don't need to trust us. Just trust our word." Toothless retorts.

"What's so special about your word?" The Nadder grunts.

"Oh, nothing. Except that it's the word of Sigrund and Raven." Toothless retorts. Ah, that name again.

The dragon pauses and eyes us. She lowers her defences and stops pacing. "you're... Raven?" She asks. I nod, knowing I may as well go along with it. I don't know much about this "Raven", no ones had time to tell me properly. "And you're Sigrund?" She asks Toothless.
"Yeah, I'm his bond brother. Probably." Toothless responds.

"Oh."

"What's going on?" Bo whispers.

"We're trying to convince her to come." I mutter back.

"So... will you come? We want to escape, but knowing that piece of low life, Dagur won't make it easy." Toothless explains.

The Nadder moves forward almost immediately. "Yes. I want to get off this dump."

"Good, good. Please, let me help with that chain." I offer, gesturing to the chain still dangling over her head. She shuffles nervously, but doesn't put up a fight when I slide off Toothless and walk up to her. "Easy," I soothe, slowly reaching up. She twitches but doesn't move away and allows me slowly unwrap the chain. I place it onto the ground softly, as to not startle her.  "Does that feel better?" I ask her kindly. She moves her mouth, testing it.
"Yes. Thank you, I guess."

"We need to get a move on," Toothless warns, approaching. "And we need to lose the extra weight." He jokes, looking at Bo. "Think you could take him? He's scared and fidgety, but he's harmless." He asks the Nadder.

The Nadder eyes Bo.

"Why's it looking at me like that?" He whispers. I gesture for him to get off Toothless, and he does. He nervously approached. "Please don't eat me?" He asks the dragon, shaking.

The Nadder chortles a laugh. "Yeah, I suppose I can let him on. He does seem harmless."

"Excellent." I nod, then turn to Bo. "Okay, approach her slowly and show her that you have no weapons. Once she's satisfied, she'll let you climb on."
"CLIM— climb on?!" He nearly yells, but stops himself to speak quieter. "Are you— are you crazy?!"

"Bo, I'm not going to let you get hurt. I promise you she won't hurt you." I assure him. He huffs, but then sighs, and slowly looks to the dragon. He looks back at me and I give him what I hope is an assuring smile, before he turns and walks towards the dragon. He holds his hands up, showing he has no weapons. The dragon eyes him, and when she seems satisfied she shakes her head and crouches so he can climb on. He looks to me once more and I give him a thumbs up. Reluctantly, he climbs on. Once he's seated, the dragon stands up.

"Okay everyone, let's go!" Toothless cheers, and I hop on with ease. Standing for too long isn't great for my stump right now. Speaking of stump, I know keeping my leg in (what's left of) the stirrup will be a challenge, but I think we can make it work if I be angle the leg right, or even just hold it open with my hand.

Toothless and I leave the cell, Bo and the Nadder following after us. We move off in the direction we came from, but a take a few different halls in hopes that it'll be quicker. After a few halls, I see someone laying in the ground. I tense up, but then I realise that he's... dead. We slowly walk past, and I look down at the mangled mess. I don't comment on it, already knowing the answer to any questions I would ask.

"I'm just going to grab the sword and shield." Bo says aloud, which stops the Nadder who obediently crashes down so Bo can lean down and pick them up. "Th—thank you." He tells them Nadder, surprised she helped him out. She doesn't respond, simply straightening up and continuing to walk. After a few more minutes, we come back to the deck entrance. We pause behind it to gather ourselves.

"I don't know what's going to be out there, prepare yourselves for a fight." I warn everyone. The Nadder's spines go up, and Bo holds the sword at the ready. I nod, then we all move out into the sun.

"Hello, brother!" Dagur!s voice booms. When my eyes adjust to the sun, I see him standing in the middle of the deck with four guards on each side, all armed with crossbows. "Miss me?"

"Oh look, there's an annoying voice in my ear again." I sigh out loud extra dramatically. I then turn to the others.

"Okay, guys. Let's work together. Nadder, Bo, you guys take the men on the right. Toothless, take the left." I order under my breath,
"Got you," Bo whispers back.
"This will be fun." The Nadder agrees. She flings her tail, several spines aimed with deadly accuracy at the men. Unfortunately, they dodge, but it knocks them out of place enough that a second row of spines pin them to the wooden deck, at least for a little bit. Dagur starts rushing at us with a war cry.

I look to our left and see a stack of barrels. "Bud." I grunt, and gesture to them when he glanced at me. He gets the memo and uses his wing to knock the barbells down. They tumble towards the remaining men and knock them down, unfortunately Dagur dodged. One of the guards, who was firing an arrow, gets jolted just as he fires, which knocks the arrow off course. I watch it fly towards Bo and the Nadder, who are keeping the other men at bay. Bo notices before I can even yell a warning and moves his shield to block the arrow from hitting the Nadder.

Dagur is still rushing towards us, but all he has is a sword. So I nod to Bo and the Nadder, then use my hand in the stirrup to open the tail, not trusting myself to do it in such quick notice with my peg leg.

We take off into the sky with a whoosh of air that knocks Dagur back. Cheering, we spiral up above and out of arrow range.

"Just you wait! I'll have you again, brother!" Dagur shouts up at us.

Next to us on the Nadder, Bo roles his eyes. He holds the shield up, then tosses it down at Dagur as hard as possible. Dagur dives out of the way. "KNOB!" Bo shouts, then sticks his middle finger up at him and laughs viciously.

Toothless tucks his head down and fires a plasma blast, which blows a hole under Dagur's feet and forces him to fall below deck. Bo cheers his approval.

Laughing, I praise Toothless. "Good job, bud!" I grin. He gives a happy grin and takes us above the clouds and out of sight from anyone below, with Bo and the Nadder following us closely.

Okay FINALLY got a chapter out! Holy shit!

I tried to do some research about flipoing people off, didn't find much apart from it apparently dating back to Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Figure that's close enough lmao and besides, this is a work of fiction so Idgaf 😂

Anyway, I am so sorry that it's been so long, but I hope you enjoyed the chapter!

They're free! Fuck yeeah! Sorry for grammar and spelling mistakes, I haven't had much time to go over the chapter, so feel free to point them out and I'll fix them :)

Also... if you like marvel... and Httyd... then you might want to keep a look out for any future announcements I'll make 👀

Okay, I'll leave you with a random quote from one of my professors:

"And by then you could be moved on, your identity will no longer be affiliated with schooling. Unless you're pathetic like me and never leave."

I kid you not, she said that 😂

Okay bye!
