Chapter 56: Him?!

(pic mine )

Hiccup's POV

Toothless growls under me, and as the smoke caused by the plasma blast clears, I look up at the intruder. I blink a few times, my vision clearing. As soon as my eyes set sight on the sight in front of me, they widen. The figure in front of me coughs and waves the smoke away, singed slightly.

"Night Fury!" They mutter, grinning as they look up, drawing their sword with a shrink. Then, we lock eyes.
"Dagur?!" I shout in shock.

"How do you—" he stops and does a double-take, nearly dropping his sword. "Hiccup?!" He gasps, the most confused look on his face as he steps back slightly.

My mind races into a panic. This...complicates everything! Oh, gods! If word gets out to Stoick that I'm alive...

Toothless growls and shifts under me, and I set a hand on his head to try and calm him down. Over Dagur's shoulder, I see Wildfire and Sparky in a cage, with Red tied up next to it. My gaze hardens.

"Hiccup? You... that's a Night Fury!" He shuffles backwards when Toothless snarls viciously.

"How do you know each other?" He demands. "And who is he?!"

Panicking, I slide off Toothless and move in front, setting a hand on his head to try and keep him from killing the Berserker heir. There must be a way out of this.

"Uh, b-bud, this is Dagur the Deranged, heir to the berserker's—"
"Chief, actually." He cuts me off obnoxiously. "And...You named the Night Fury Bud?"

I roll my eyes and Toothless hisses. "I hate him already."

"No, that's not his na—Wait...Chief?!" My eyes widened. "Why would Oswald step dow—"

"He didn't step down, tiny human!" Dagur yells at me, nearly stomping his foot.

"He—well, let's just say he has been... retired." He adds in a smug voice, grinning on the last word.

"R-retired?!"
He didn't... Did he?

"He lost his taste for blood..." Dagur explains calmly. Then he points his sword at Toothless, who growls. "I, however...am starving!" He sings the last word, chuckling darkly afterwards.
He did.
Toothless growls and lunges towards Dagur, and I shove back against him, trying not to lose my balance, especially when my walking stick goes flying against the stone wall.
There has to be a different way out of this!

"let me kill him!" Toothless growls, pushing against me, but not hard enough to hurt. "Just...just a little!" he insists, a little crazily.

"No, bud. That'll make us as bad as him." I hiss lowly under my breath. I shake my head.

"No one is killing anyone!" I affirm, glaring at Dagur.

"So, Hiccup, What brings you and...Deathkiller here? Away from your petty little Berk?" Dagur changes the topic.

"Deathkiller?"

"Yep. Much better than anything you could come up with!"

"Toothless..." I hiss quietly, looking Dagur in the eyes. "Please go and help the other dragons. I'll...handle Dagur."

"Did you...did you just growl at me?!" Dagur questions, mostly confused, but slightly offended. I choose to ignore him.

when Toothless answers me.
"Like I'm leaving you with this Psycho." He snarls.

"I know, but I have a terrible plan that will end in disaster."

"Well, that makes me feel much better!" Toothless hisses, jumping right over Dagur and knocking him down with his wing, as he goes over to Red and tries to bite through the rope.

Dagur grunts as he gets up, drawing his sword and charging for Toothless.

"No!" I shout, running after Dagur and tackling him to the ground as I throw all my (non-existent) weight on his shape. We topple to the ground and Dagur gives me a furious look as I see Toothless preparing a shot at his head.
This escalated way too quickly...

"Follow my lead with this," I beg Toothless, thinking quickly and knowing full well it'll probably fail.

"A-are you insane?!" I shout in a fake voice at Dagur as we stand up. "You have no idea how long it took me to, uh, wrangle it into submission! Now...now look at it! I-It's out of control!"I point to Toothless, who catches on and roars loudly, staring right at Dagur. This is going to fail. So, so badly.

I grab a shield Dagur must have brought with him, and make a hand signal, mouthing plasma blast to Toothless as I point to the shield.

"Run, Dagur, save yourself!" I yell dramatically, lifting the shield up to 'block' a plasma blast. Dagur ignores me, rolling his eyes and scoffing as he lifts his sword, but Toothless blasts it out of his hand.

"Never! I'll wear its skull as a helmet!" Dagur yells stubbornly, pulling an axe off his belt. "Did you really think I was that stu—"

"No!" I protest, trying to grab for the axe. "Dagur, no!" I nearly fall over, thanks to losing my balance. I let out a hiss of pain as my stump aches in protest.

Dagur gets distracted and looks down at my leg. "What happened to your leg?" he asks, raising an eyebrow. I notice Toothless was looking at me in worry, and I subtly gesture for him to get out of the cave. He shook his head stubbornly and backed into the shadows.

I chuckle nervously. "Freak...mutton accident." I lie unconvincingly, trying to keep his attention away from Toothless.

"What did you do?" Dagur chuckles. "It must be some kind of punishment! Ooh, did you kill your father?"

"What? No." I answer. He's not my father anymore.

Dagur shrugs. "Damn." He sighs in disappointment. "Well, just say the word, brother, and I'll—" he swipes his sword at thin air, mimicking a decapitation.
Brother?

"Actually, Dagur, I'm—I'm good. I'm never seeing Stoick again, so..." I admit, not sure why I am telling him this, or why he's being nice to me. "...and also, my father's like seven foot tall so you'd barely be slicing the bottom of his beard."

"Did he banish you?! Ooh, ooh, brother, what did you do?!" Dagur asks eagerly.

He said it again...

"It's, uh, it's complicated," I answer. "And, would you stop calling me brother?! It's really putting me off."

Dagur takes a step towards me, giving a creepy grin as he lifting his axe up. "But...you're my brother...brother! And you're going to get me a Night Fury.... or else." At the last two words, he points the axe at my throat. A quiet growl rings out, and I back up with my arms raised. "OH! Or a Skrill!" Dagur bursts, pulling the axe away with a giddy look on his face and tapping his chin. "Which is better? Skrill, obviously."

"What? No, I'm not." I step back. "I'm not training you a dragon!"

"C'mon. You found a way for that...that beast to listen to you! 'Training', you just called it. That's right, I listen. And if you don't want me to," he starts talking in a dangerous tone, "knock off your precious dragon's head and wear its skull as my helmet, you will find, and train me, a Skrill!"

"The last thing this archipelago needs is a lunatic with a Skrill. So, no, Dagur. I am not training you a Skrill—not that they're around, anyway." I respond firmly, without hesitation. "And, if you want Toothless, you're going to have to go through me."

As soon as I finish, it dawns on me that I'm down a leg, and without a weapon. Dagur seems to register this, too, as he looks me up and down, and a murderous grin appears on his face.

"Have it your way, brother!" He turns and throws his axe into the darkness, which misses Toothless' head by an inch. Toothless shrieks angrily at him, charging up a plasma blast.

"I am NOT your brother," I respond, managing to catch my walking stick that flies out of the darkness, thanks to Toothless. I hold it to me defensively.

Dagur chuckles arrogantly, taking a crossbow from his back and striking an arrow on a bit of flint strapped to his leg. The arrow burst into flames, and he turns and fires it out of the cave, over my shoulder.

I turn to him. "Wow. Your aim has really gone off since we've last met."

Dagur laughs sadistically. "Yeah, I've missed my knife throwing target."

Why was I always stuck babysitting the lunatic whenever her came with his less crazy father, for the annual signing of the peace treaty?

Toothless snarls at that statement. Dagur looks around, but thanks to Toothless' scales he manages to stay hidden.

"And, by the way, I didn't miss..."

Suddenly, dozens of arrows on fire fly into the cave, clattering against the ground or the walls. I duck to avoid one. Not a second later, about a dozen armed Berserker soldiers step into the room. I pale. Just a little.

I turn to Dagur, ready to start pleading with him.
"Dagur, don't do this—" I get a glimpse of a fist coming, and then a heavy pain across my face. I drop to the ground, vision fading as I hear Toothless roaring.

I get a glimpse of a very blurry Dagur standing over me.
"You could have been my brother, Hiccup!" He exclaims darkly.

"Don't hurt...Toothless..." is the last thing I manage to get out of my mouth, before my head drops to the ground, vision fading out to blackness.

Hehehe...😈 I love cliffhangers

Anyway, hope you enjoyed getting your eyes mentally stabbed as you read this one. I know it's a pretty bad attempt at a chapter.

Also, you guys guessed it was Dagur pretty easily 😂🤦‍♀️

I need to learn to be more subtle.

Stay tuned for the next update, not that I have any idea when it'll be. Hopefully, it'll be of better quality though.
School's been full-on, ngl.

Stay safe :)
