Chapter 34: New, NEW, Tail!

Video cause why not 😂

???????! Mystery POV ???????!

I wonder though the rough wilderness of Berk, making next to no sound. Ah, Berk. An insignificant island known to my people as a lost cause. Filled with needy Vikings with big appetites and even bigger egos. Where the weather is enough to send the toughest animals into hibernation, enough to freeze you where you stand. This island has the kind of storms that very well may be the end of the Earth. Well, Thor, Odin and all the other gods sure do REALLY hate this place...or maybe...maybe they love it? maybe it's what they do to let off steam?

I examine the tracks in front of me carefully, taking care to conceal mine as I track my target. A broken twig here, parted bushes there, all signs that this target of mine wasn't taking much care with themselves. Anyone could of tracked this. For gods sake, there's a set of footprints right there!

It really doesn't take long to track the target to the destination, though the pouring rain and crashing thunder was a bit of an off put, I still manage to pull through with my skills and instincts.

I crouch on an upper ledge. It's rock, but covered in moss and tree routes. My bare feet are slightly digging into the ground, but it doesn't matter. It just helps me get a better grip and move silently.

My dark eyes narrow at the shapes down bellow. More specifically, the smallest shape. Quick as a snap, I grab my weapon from my side. I raise it up, aiming at the (naked?!) shape. But before I can even release the ammo, the black much bigger figure is in the way-wrapping the smaller shape up in its ink coloured wings. I hiss lightly to myself through my teeth. There is no way I can get my target. Not when that damn beast is there. I lower my weapon, unloading it and returning it to its holder.

I guess I'll have to come back later...
Slowly, ever so slowly, as to not get detected, I stand up. I wrap my cloak around me, and then as quick as I was there, I'm gone. Back though the forest.
Next time. I tell myself. Next time.

(Time skip)
Hiccup's POV
It's halfway through the next day, I'm thankfully alive, my clothes are dry, and Toothless and I are doing absolutely nothing! Well, besides Toothless teaching me some more Dragonese.

"C..Claw?"
"Wow, you got it! Good job."
"good! How about...scale."
"It's *coo*"
"..Scale."
"yes."

You see, we want to leave, we honestly do, but for some reason almost half of Berk is in the forest, even after the storm of last night. Which is foolish of them, because that means trees could fall right on their heads. I have no idea if they're searching for something, or hunting, or going for a mass-harvest?!

Toothless looks to a footprint and croons.
"Footprint, right?" I check, getting a nod. So, I try crooning.
"Footprint."
"yes."
"Great! Okay, um, how about.. metal?" I suggest.
Toothless demonstrates with a little coo and a tilt of his head. I do my best to imitate it, rolling my head slightly.
Toothless bursts out laughing in his own special way. I rise my eyes as he drops down onto the ground and rolls about in hysterics, limbs failing.

"Really? That bad?!" I exclaim as he does this. He stops and role up to his feet. He grins at me.
"you .. .. that you wanted to .. with me!" He manages to tell me, before he drops down onto the ground and alighs again.

"I-I wants to what?" I ask, kind of afraid of the answer. Tootgles demonstrates by flirting with his shadow in a very exaggerated way.
I cry out in disgust at that.
"I-I can't believe I said that! Sorry bud, but but you're not my type!" I joke for the last bit, to try and loghten the mood, but Toothless ksit drops to the ground again and looses it.
I faceplam. I really have to be careful with the body gestures and noises then.

Tooyhless finally calms down, and demonstrates again. But I cant help but thinking it sounds different. I repeat what he says.

Toothless' point of view
I struggle to keep a straight face as I wait for him to try what I said.
"I..I have sexual de-desiirreees with your mum."

"PFFT HAHAHAHHAHAHA!" I'm on the ground again. Messing with him is so fun. He looks at me with irratation as I role around on the ground.

Hiccup's POV

Toothless finally pulls himself together and demonstrates again. I have him q pointed look but he just shows me a comforting grin.
"Metal." I try, and receive a nod.
"That was cruel what you did to me!" I exclaim but still laugh anyway,

So anyway, there's no way we'd get away with it if we flew up into the air. Someone would be bound to see us—and if they're lucky they'll have a weapon on them. But if we stay here I'll either have a mental breakdown, or they'll find us. How would I explain that?!

Oh sorry, I know I banished myself and all but you see when I come back to attack you guys, we kind of fell from the sky so I had to steal food and material from you guys in the dead of the night, but it's okay! well I'll just be on my way now, ya know, with my Night Fury. You remember him, right? The one I befriended—betraying you. Oh you don't like that?!

I shake my head, snapping myself out of my thoughts as I get a new idea.
"Hey bud, race ya!" I shout, running towards one of the rock walls.

"This better not be some form of payback!" I hear Toothless exclaim as he runs after me. I laugh and shake my head.
Maaayybe.

I grab onto a rock and pull myself up.
So, the reason why I'm using my energy to randomly climb this wall is...
Toothless comes bounding over and starts to race me with a confident look on his face that only he can do, and so we exchange daring looks and move faster. Yep. I guess we're both pretty competitive.
...I have just had a perfect idea!

I grab onto small rock ledges to pull myself up and focus on getting up to the top, at the same time I'm begging in my mind that I don't fall.
Toothless is pretty good at this since he can use his wings to propel him forward just a little, use his claws to dig in, and....yeah he is just generally a better climber then me. I mean, look at me!

I grab onto another ledge, this one having a little grass on it, but it crumbles and I find myself falling.
"Aaa!" I yelp, but find myself landing on Toothless' tail, dangling dangerously.

He swung his tail to save me! Phew!
He moves his tail closer to the wall and I grab onto another solid ledge.
"Thanks, bud!" I exclaim a littles breathlessly.

"Be careful, Hiccup!" He scolds lightly as we both continue to race up the wall, with me being sure to check that every ledge is climbable now.

Foot, hand, hand, pull, foot. Foot, hand, hand, pull. This routine runs through my head, and I get into a rhythm so I don't lose concentration.

"So...why are we doing this .. ?" Toothless wonders as we near the top, and his claw slips slightly, but he catches himself easily and moves on. "Like, where is this going?"

"Well....." I finally grab onto the top and heave myself up, glancing up to see Toothless has got up already and is waiting for me patiently. "This is why!" I exclaim, standing up and grabbing onto a vine of a drooping tree.

"....Really?" He huff's out with the most annoyed look on his face, like this has wasted his entire day. "A ...?" Well...Toothless is defiantly not impressed. "You're bat shit crazy!" He exclaims and I laugh.
"Language." I quip with a smirk.
Yep. He taught me his favorite curse words.
"Dragonese." he sasses back.
"Just, just wait for it!" I exclaim gently, trying to reassure him, as I gather another in my hand. I pull my pocket knife out of...well, out of my pocket... and cut the vines at a good length. I grab two more large lengths, and tie then all together to create one big length. I grab a few more vines and sling them over my shoulder, before looking over at Toothless with a hidden michevious look.

"You see, Toothless!" I begin as I tie one end around my waist securely.

"...This vine can be useful for various purposes!" I tie the other end to a sturdy tee branch, tugging on it a few times to ensure it's secureness.
(Didn't realise secureness was a word but apparently it is😂)

I grab a few more vines for extra measure and then I smirk at Toothless, this eyes widen when he catches on. I grab some of my vine, clasping it tightly, so it will shorten it in a way.
"Hiccup, don't." he warns me as I peer over the ledge, seeing the ground considerably far down. I choose to ignore his warning as I spin around to face him. He gives me a confused or skeptical look as I pace towards the edge with a teasing grin.
"Like--" I leap off the edge and find myself free falling. I whoop. The vines snap into place and I am held up in the air.

"--This!" I shot with my free arm spread.

Toothless gives me an irritated look as he zooms down past me. He lands down on the ground. He had jumped to 'save' me.
Ha! Jokes on him.

"Aw, come on, bud! Lighten up!" I exclaim, laughing, as I let go of some of the vine I had gathered, and scale the rest of the cliff down safely, pushing off the rocky wall and falling a distance, before I touch down and undo the vine from around my waist.

I grab the other three (that I cut and had hung over my shoulder) from my shoulder and tie them together. "Im not gonna lie in surpassed they actually hold." I laugh.

+++(Twenty minuets later....)+++
"Wooo-Hooo-Hooo-Hooo!" I cheer as I swing from the vine. I let go midair and flip over. I feel weightless for a moment...before I land in the water with a splash.

I sink to the bottom and then I use my feet to push off from the sandy surface, effectively propelling my way to the surface.

"Yeah!" I cheer, getting out of the water and rushing my hair out of my face.

Toothless huffs at me in an unimpressed way.
"Oh, you think you could do better?!" I exclaim, teasing as I grab the corner of my tunic and ring the water out onto the ground.

He looks slightly offended at that remark, as if he could do so much better.
"Oh, I know I can!" He replies sassily, climbing up to a ledge about halfway up one of the cliffs–the ledge I swing off. My vine is tied security around a big boulder, its big enough to hold my weight.

He tenses his muscles, wiggles his butt, smirks at me in a dragon-y way, and leaps off.

I watch as he dives towards the water. He flips his body around so he's on his back, plasma blasts, flips back over and plunges into the water.

I watch the surface, waiting for him to come out boasting about how amazingly good he is or something like that.

After maybe thirty seconds, when I'm getting a little concerned and also thinking about jumping in to look for him, he leaps out of the water......

.....with a mouthful of fish....

......And he's grinning.......

Really.

"Really Bud, really?!" I exclaim, a little exasperated. He climbs out of the water, comes right up to me, drops the fish, then shakes himself off. Water goes spraying everywhere and I shield my face, disgusted.

"Aw, yuck!" I complain.
Toothless laughs. "Sucker!" He exclaims.
I role my eyes and head towards the fire, stripping off so my clothes will dry. Again. Toothless comes over and smirks at me as I reach for some wood so I can start the fire.

"Uh uh! Look. " Toothless coos, I look to where he is gesturing. I realise that the fire is burning brightly.

"Wha..? OH, when you fired!" I realise, as the fire had went out ages ago. Toothless is, to the least, smug. He grabs his fish and trots over with his head high.

I sit in front of the fire and dry off my clothes, while I am trying to keep warm at the same time. Cause I am.. well, ya know, naked. Again.

++++
"I won't be long, bud. And I'll try and grab some fish while I'm there." I tell Toothless as we approach the village.
Yes, my clothes dried. I'm just ducking into the village—it's night now and everyone is gone from the forest as far as I can tell—so I can try and grab some supplies. I just need some healing herbs, another blanket probably, and some food.

"Alright, just promise me that you'll be careful!" Toothless replies, looking at me with concern.

We've almost come to the edge of the forest now and obviously Toothless can't come into the village with me.

I smile at him, but don't promise. " I make no promises!" I joke.
"But you just ...never mind."
"Stay here, bud!" I tell him with a laugh.
I leave the forest and the reluctant Toothless, and head for the village.

Luckily, when I get there, the forge is empty this time.
Oh, this day is getting better and better!

So, I quickly enter and get to work, digging around until I find a few shaping tools I forgot to get last time, an extra leather cased journal, a water satchel, another knife, some spare fabric, and some extra charcoal.
Sorry Gobber, but I need this more then you do! I think as I put the items into the satchel, surpassed they actually fit.

After that, I decide to get to work and build a new connecting rod just in case I will ever need it. So for that I have to fire up the...well, the fire.... and heat some metal in order for me to shape it. Just in case I could be seen I pull fown the serving window shutter and double check that no one is about. They'll probably think I'm Gobber, anyway.

+++
I open and close the tail in front of me.
I've just spent like two hours shaping, balancing, and melting metal, as well as spending half an hour putting the whole thing together. Yep. I couldn't help myself once I finished the connecting rod. I decided to make a spare tail since I had the left over fabric in my pocket.

Perfect! The time has finally come! Toothless and I can get the heck out of here! And better yet, I've just made a spare tail, haven't I! So if the tail Toothless has on now is broken then we have got a spare!

I put out the fire and leave the forge. No one even batted an eyelid when I was banging the metal– I guess they thought that I was just Gobber starting early, presumably to get a head start on work since as far as I know he hasn't found himself an Apprentice.

I check both ways when I leave the forge and get on my way, stopping at the fishing huts to grab a small basket of fish for Toothless, and then a food store, to swipe a crab cake, two apples, and some herbs that are good for healing, before heading back towards the forest quickly and quietly.

Suddenly, as I round a corner near the outskirts of the village, I hear loud footsteps.
Oh Gods! Just when I thought I was safe.

I look around wildly, eyes wide in panic, and dive behind a random bush, just in time. I watch, holding my breath, as no one other than Randi Odinson walks by.
She stops, just in front of the bush I'm in, and I cringe back.
Just my luck.
"Oh, Gods. I know you're there. So, come out!"

Thanks for reading!
Little cliffhanger there! *cackles evily*

Also, how are we on 20 k reads already?! Whoa. I didn't realise I'd get more than one reader 😂.

Quote of the Chapter:
Gobber: *sees Valka*
Gobber *white as a ghost, pats Stoick's shoulder*: You might want to take this one... *looks traumatised as he walks past*
I know it's not extremely funny but is one of my favourite moments, so you'll have to deal with it lol

Bye :)
