Chapter 30: A bit of a....situation. *video cause why not lol*
The Fate is twisted
It draws you in and quickly
It can't be trusted
Yet on an island
In cold Scandinavian
Fate will take it's course
A boy with a dream
Meets a dragon with a good soul
realising peace
The pair start rocky
But form an amazing bond
So yes it begins
They both face trouble
Fate is not always the cause
But strive for success
It starts with a fish
Then a simple gentle touch
Then moves to the sky
One viking witness
Terrified by what she sees
Runs back to the chief
Betrayed by his Kin
The boy is distraught and scared
His own father? Why?
The judgment stands tall
And the boy's fate decided
So the pair escape
They strive for better
A life of freeness awaits
Restrained no longer
Life won't be easy
For they still face challenges
Queen ever so large
Teeth bigger than boats
A body bests a mountain
Fire that packs a punch
What happens in war
Will not tear the two apart
It will unite them
Bound by loyalty
And lets not forget friendship
They will search for more
For what got them here
It is nothing short of Fate
And a little luck
But the good thing is
That fate is like a clay clump.
You mould it to please
yes what helps them is
Quite A Little Bit Of Fate
But it is their fate.

Hiccup's POV.
It's been a month since the Berk raid now and unfortunately Toothless and I are still living on the island near the Red Death's nest. Ugh, it's annoying. I know we'd rather be miles away, but we HAVE to help the dragons enslaved. It's taking longer then you think to come up with a good plan.
On a good note, with the leather I managed to make a little saddlebag so it's easier for me to carry things when riding Toothless, such as my spear or some fish.
I also used the left over leather to repair my riding harness from where it was getting torn, and I improved Toothless' saddle by stripping it down so it's way lighter—we can fly faster. Of course the spear now has an actual spear head. I only ever use it for fishing.
Toothless and I have helped to raid Outcast Island again and we also raided another nearby tribe last week. Soon we will be going back to Berk, to raid. Which I dread. I hate all of this, to be honest.
I often try not to think of what we're doing, when we join in on the raids. But I'm overwhelmed with guilt at the thought that I'm just encouraging the queen to continue in her slavery, and I'm taking from Viking tribes that know no better. But with Berk? I don't really feel a LOT of guilt. Sure, sometimes, but I also have a deep hatred for, and maybe even fear of, that place that I can't shake. But whether I like it or not, I have family there. Even if we don't get along. Blood is blood. Even if all my blood relations are jackasses. Excuse my language.
The Red Death, or Queen, well...she's getting even more stricter and annoying. On our trips over to the nest we've noticed that on days when she is in a bad mood, she only let's a few dragons out of the nest that day to fish for themselves. She forces them to stay in! It's horrific! We are lucky to be on our own island because the other dragons that weren't let out have to grab fish from the ocean on the way back from raids. It's the only way that they won't starve. She barely lets dragons be dragons. Only slaves to her.
Toothless and I have been doing our best to do our plan, too. On the outcast island raid we did, I released a Zipppleback, three Nadders, and two Gronkles from the queens wrath.
On the other raid on a neighboring tribe I managed to release two Gronkles and a Monstrous Nightmare from the queens wrath. It was hard to sneak in because this tribe had guards everywhere. They knew what they were doing. They had a better approach than Berk....so unfortunately a lot more dragons were killed.
But other then the Red Death stuff, life is great, much much better than it was back on Berk. Out here, I'm not a fishbone, I'm not bullied, I'm just..me. I'm accepted for who I am. I'm free.
"Hiccup! Hurry up!" Toothless whines as I finish my bread.
"Oh, shush Toothless!" I reply with a smirk.
"The sky is not going anywhere! Neither is the ocean!" I add in Dragonese with a grin as I put on my flight harness.
So, I've learnt a lot more words in Dragonese, and it's coming along nicely! Obviously I don't understand all the words, but it's coming along! Toothless and Wildfire tell me I'm a natural, and that my 'accent' is really improving. It's so amazing to be able to follow and hold conversations with my best friend. It's just...indescribable. A human able to understand a dragon?!
Actually, I wonder why that is a lot of the time. How can a Viking be good at the language of the dragons? Let alone me. I'm not good at anything, barely even a Viking, the only thing I do is mess things up!
I make my way over to a waiting (barely) Toothless with the fishing net and a basket. I climb up onto the saddle and open the tail. We fly up and out of the cave with me calling out in joy. I don't bother to attach myself because I will be off in a minute anyway.
When we go on these fishing trips we like to take a good flight. And a tricks session. It never gets old.
"Okay bud, where to today?" I ask him.
Toothless responds by immediately breaking left, almost throwing me off if it wasn't for me hanging on tightly to the saddle.
In a few minutes we come to a short sea stack. Its just above the water— meaning I can fish off it. It's the shortest sea stack I have ever seen.
We circle it once and then touch down on it, barely stopping in time—skidding to a stop inches away from the edge. I dismount, baking up, and I throw the net into the ocean. It has two ropes attached to it so I can pull it in.
I have managed to make some modifications to it with what I have. Since it was originally used to catch dragons, I made the holes a lot smaller so the fish won't just swim out, and I changed the shape a little, bonding some ends together so it will catch the fish as they swim though. The last thing I did was attach some ropes to it, so I can pull it up. Even the small round metal balls that are still attached to it from its dragon-trapping days are useful! They're great for getting it to sink further under water.
But before I used it as modifications, I used it as a hammock, and it was actually sort of comfortable. With a blanket in top of it, the ropes don't dig in a lot. At the moment I only use the blanket for a hammock, because I realised we need the net for fish.
Toothless moves the only boulder on this sea stack (and basically the only thing) with his front paws and I put the ropes in the spot. I set the basket down next to it and he lets the rock role onto the ropes, keeping the net in place effectively, I tie the end of the rope around the heavy boulder and check to make sure it'll be in place. I give Toothless the thumbs up and he gestures for me to get on.
So I climb onto the saddle and attach myself, patting his head as a 'I'm ready' signal.
"What do ya recon.. bud, want to ..try free ..falling again?" I ask him as we take off swiftly and fly high into the clouds, it still takes me a few seconds to think of the word I want to say sometimes, but as I said I'm improving.
However I don't want to forget Norse. That will be bad. What if I want to trade? Or one day persuade people to like dragons?! So that's why I always remember to switch between the languages.
"Eh, sure why not!" He replies so I un-attach myself from the saddle.
"Three, two, one!" I holler in excitement before back-flipping off the saddle.
We plunge next to each other upside down and I grin. I love the feeling of air in my face. The rush of adrenaline. This is the life I love.
"YEEAH! WAHOO!" I cheer as we fall, Toothless is enjoying it as much as I am, as he roars in excitement.
Soon enough the ocean comes into view. Toothless shoots under me and I land on the saddle. I open the tail, whooping as water sprays up onto us, I attach myself to the saddle—and jsut as well because Toothless spins around.
Toothless barrel roles and we perform some fun and complicated moves, with me whooping and screaming in joy. the feeling of unbridled freedom is overwhelming. This is the life I want. This is how I want to live. Like this, happy and free, not controlled and abused.
++++++++++
Twenty minutes later we land on the sea stack that has the fishing net on it.
Yep we forgot about it. But, hey, That was a great flight!
I hop off and together me and Toothless raise the net.
It has six fish in it.
Wow. There's not many here, but we were only gone for twenty minutes so I guess it'll do.
Quickly, Toothless and I end the fishes lives, and then put them into the basket. I throw the net back in and Toothless and I sit back to relax.
"I .. am so sick of the Queen. We need to figure ... a way to .. her. Our ... .. plan isn't .. working. I mean, its .. to .. the dragons but ... how long can we .. this up ... she finds out?" Toothless says as we sit here, with me leaning against him. I can make out most of his words, so I can piece together what he means.
"Yeah, you have.. a point. " I exclaim, going slow so I can concentrate and put together the sentence. "We have to figure.. out a new plan, and fast!"
+++++±±±+++++±±±+++++±±±+++++±±±+++
"Alright bud. We better get back..." I sigh disappointedly, kicking a small rock into the ocean bellow. It makes contact with a plonk then disappears from view. We've been out here for three hours now, judging by the sun. Toothless coos sadly in agreement.
We pull in the net that's full of fish and take care of them. I put the fish in the basket and chuck Toothless one. He snatches it out of the air without blinking and snacks on it as I roll up the net. I sit it in the basket and get into the saddle once Toothless comes over to me.
I click open the tail and we fly off with a whoop of joy from me.
----Astrid's POV.----
"HIYA!" I hurl my axe at another barrel, before I run over and yank it out and turn and throw it at another pole.
This process goes on for quite a while.
"SON OF A HALF TROLL! *THUD* I'M GOING TO *THUD* ARRRGH! I'M GONNA KILL HIM!" I imagine my targets as him, and that just makes me get very enthusiastic. I throw my axe, hard, at a thick tree trunk. I walk over to it and yank out my axe, and stand still, panting.
What have I done to deserve this?! And yes, I have been keeping this bottled up for a few days.
*flashback: two days ago*
I walk into my house after hanging out with the gang, to find my dad standing in the kitchen/ living area entrance. My mum stands at the stairs, nervously wringing her hands. I've been home from our little trip for a while now. I'm not going to lie, my parents were mad when I got back.
"What it is?" I ask with a sigh, dreading what they have to tell me.
"Well, the thing is.." my mum trials off, so my dad takes over.
"A betrothal has been arranged between you and...."
I let out a scream of frustration, snapping out of it, and hurl my axe at another tree.
I AM NOT GOING TO BE PROMISED TO ANYONE! I AM A SHEILD MAIDEN AND I WILL STAY THIS WAY!
"UURRGH!" The trees once again fall victim to my axe.
THIS IS NOT FAIR! MY DAD KNOWS HOW HARD I HAVE WORKED FOR THIS! I'VE DONE ALL THIS FOR OIR FAMILY HONOUR! I'VE TRAINED EVERY DAY FOR TEN GODS-DAMNED THOR FORSAKEN YEARS! PROBABLY MORE!
I yank out my axe, twirl around and hurl it at another tree.
......But there's nothing I can do.
I grumble to myself and walk back towards the village, cursing all the way.
+++++ —Three hours later— +++++
"Honestly when is this going to end?!" I complain as the other teens and I finish another job. So as I said, We have been home for almost a month now, and I know that another raid will happen soon, so I'm on edge.
"I'm gonna kill someone soon! Like, I just want to train or something like that...but we have to do this!" I gesture to the shovel I'm holding. "Ugh!" I groan, missing the sweet sounds of my axe striking the trees, or the rhythmic thuds of my feet as I run laps through the forest for hours. And no, I haven't yet told them about the arrangement. Because I don't want to believe it's true.
"Well," Randi looks around suspiciously but no one is near so she leans closer, "Why don't we just go?"
We all look around with a shrug and drop the tools with a series of clangs or thuds. We were supposed to be digging another well, and it's no fun. Seriously, no fun at all. We run off into the forest as fast as our legs will carry us.
Call us ungrateful but we aren't slaves.
+++
We come to a towering, thick tree with plenty of branches, as we playfully shrug or hit each other. Like normal teams. We all shrug at each other. I grab onto one branch and pull myself up, cross onto another, climb up two more and use my axe to bring myself up to one.
Everyone else picks their spot on the tree. Randi climbs up to a branch across from mine, Fishlegs stays on a lower branch, saying the closer he is to the ground, the better. The twins come up near Randi and I, and they hang upside down by their feet, smiling crazily. Snotlout climbs up to a branch below Randi, the twins, and I, and rests his feet up.
I sit back and relax with a sigh, despite this being a completely random thing to do.
"This isn't a bad tree, I guess..." I exclaim, trailing my hand along a small branch beside me.
It would make good firewood.
"Yeah, like, we should make it our tree!" Tuff says, still upside down. He high fives Ruffnut.
"That's actually not a bad idea!" Fishlegs says what I was thinking and I nod in agreement.
"Oh my Thor! They accept our idea!" Tuffnut mocks with hands on his voice and wide eyes.
"It would be nice I guess to hang out here away from the pile of endless chores..." Snotlout shrugs, ignoring Tuffnut who is now gasping loudly.
"Ditto to that." Randi adds in. Tuffnut literally almost falls off his branch in shock, making me smirk.

Hiccup's POV.
We've been back at our island from our flight for like an hour and a half now. Wildfire just flew over to us to help teach me a little more Dragonese. By the way, it's midday.
"Very good, Hiccup!"
"Hmm, how about island?" I say.
Toothless demonstrates and I try. Wildfire nods.
"Alright! How about......home."
Wildfire demonstrates and I get it second try.
"Ha! I'm getting good at this!" I exclaim, sitting back. I reach into the basket and throw a fish to Wildfire and a fish to Toothless. I grab myself a bit of bread.
Toothless looks to the entrance of the cave and warbles. "Entrance?" I ask and he shakes his head. "Cave? Rocks? Moss? Stone? Outside?" At the last one he nods and warbles again. I copy him almost exactly and get a nod of approval.
+++--+++--+++
(Many hours later. Its now an hour to sunset.)
"Ha! And I told him, if you .. of just got your own we .... be in this situation! " Wildfire exclaims. Toothless does his own dragon-y laugh while I just chuckle, shaking my head in disbelief.
We aren't actually in the cave anymore, we're sitting on top of the cliff as we watch the sun slowly start to go down dowards the horizon.
We can see a few dragons from here. I spot two Terrible Terrors on a tree, three Gronkles eating rocks on the beach and a Nadder chasing a Zippleback. I recognise them from the nest. I guess they were supposed to be out on a fishing trip, or something. Looks like they've came here to unwind. As much as they can—with the constant threat of the Queen weighing down on their minds. I wonder if they even have control of themselves right now? Or are they simply released from her hold temporarily. If they are free, why don't they go as far as they can from here? Maybe the queen would sense it and snatch them back?
"Yep. So then he got .. and I had to be the one to get us out!" Wildfire adds.
"ATTENTION! GET READY TO RAID!" The queens dragonic/demonic voice pounds though the air.
Once again, she's very evil. HOW AM I HEARING THIS?! WHAT THE THOR?!
All the dragons nearby to us freeze and their eyes pupils become more slitted. They all take off, even the Terrible Terrors, and fly towards the nest as quick as they can.
Even Wildfire and Toothless are quiet for a moment...I'm becoming concerned. At least Toothless can't fly on his own. Hiccup, That's a horrible thing to be happy about!
"Alright. Let's go!" Toothless says, randomly, making me yell out in surprise. He chortles, as if to laugh, before we run into the cave and I grab my spear. I quickly pack the saddle bag, not wanting to be late.
I get onto Toothless and open the tail. "Let's catch up with them, bud!" I say to him with determination.
We fly out of the cave and fly back towards the nest. We join up with the flock and I look around to see Wildfire make her way to the front and she flies with us.
Wonder where to today?
----
Astrid's POV.
We stayed in the tree until it got really close to sunset.
Now, we are walking through town as the sun disappears bellow the horizon.
"Ha! No, really?" I chuckle in disbelief at a story Randi has been telling us for the last few minutes, it's quite funny.
"Yeah! I just stood their and started shuffling towards the door awkwardly while they argued! It was awesome cause they forgot about punishing me!"
We all laugh.
"Anyway.... You guys wanna come up to the watchtower?" Randi asks. We all shrug and I follow her.
++++
Hiccup's POV
We fly through a cloud.
(Wow great introduction Sophie😂😂)
Berk.
"Alright. Berk it is..." I mutter. "Again."
I hate this place. But I also love it. Oh, Thor, I dread this. Why can't I just
live a free life?! I left to get AWAY from here and especially my father!
"First .. Nadders, Nightmares and Zippplebacks! Advance!" I hear Toothless direct, snapping me out of my thoughts.
The dragons addressed do what Toothless orders. The rest circle up in the darkness with us. We have managed to start to try out different techniques, so we can do all we can to avoid dragon and Viking injury, and have the raid over as quick as it starts. Not to mention freeing as many dragons as possible.
I watch as Wildfire swoops down and sets a hut on fire, before firing her spikes at a runaway sheep to stop it in her tracks. She grabs the bleating sheep, clutches it tightly, and fires at another hut. Then unfortunately I loose sight of her in the chaos as the raid horn blows.
Now the real fight is about to begin.....
Vikings spill out of their houses within seconds once again, charging towards the nearest dragon and engaging in horrific and bloody battle.
I see the Zippplebacks are causing bright explosions all over town. And the Monstrous Nightmares are doing their bit too: they are setting many things on fire and facing off against large Vikings.
Here we go.
Toothless and I continue to circle high above as we look on, surveying the village in darkness. Toothless looks up and nods at me.
"Second wave! Go!" I shout and a few more Zippplebacks, some Gronkles, a few Nadders, and three Nightmares fly down. They are immediately setting things ablaze and battling Vikings all over my old home.
I feel no love for that island. No love at all. Nor for the people in it (Except maybe one or two).
-------
Astrid's POV
I sit up in bed with a yelp. It's the raid horn. And I've only been in bed for like three hours.
I grab my axe and thunder down stairs like a yak stampede.
"Be careful honey. They're really ticked off today, your father's out already!" My mum tells me.
They're not the only ones who are ticked off.
"I'll be fine, mum! Just go keep Sigrid safe." I grumble.
Who's Sigrid, you ask. Sigrid's my little sister.
------------------------ ----------------------------------
Me: Dun dun DUUUN! 🙀🙀🤭😱😱
---------------------------------- -----------------------
Hiccup's POV. (++Timeskip++)
"FIFTH WAVE! NOW!" Toothless roars loudly, body tensing in anticipation. Just to be sure, I make sure I'm clipped into the saddle, and I clutch the handle tightly with one hand while the other holds the spear.
This is the final wave, so we will join in.
The rest of the dragons advance down towards the-island-of-no-happiness and Toothless picks up speed.
He flies up high and spins swiftly before diving down and creating the whistle of the Night Fury, wings folded into his side while I cling as closely to the saddle as possible.
"Time to make our mark!" I shout dramatically just before Toothless fires at a catapult. We swing back into the darkness before one could blink.
"Good job, bud!" I cheer in excitement.
How's THAT for a mark?! I've always said 'I need to make my mark' so I guess this counts!
"Thanks, Hiccup! Get ready, going in for another shot!" He roars and I hang tight as he flips around and zooms in at a dizzying speed.
"Night Fury!"
"Get down!" Can be heard just before Toothless destroys a weapons hut.
"Gobber." I murmur, shaking my head in amusement as we fly off. Same ole, same ole.
It gets really dusty and smokey to the point where I can't see and I'm glad Toothless has fine eyesight.
We fly around a hut, I pat Toothless.
I mean, I HOPE he can see fine.
"Okay so how--" I'm cut off by a Zipppleback exploding the hut.
"Hey! Watch it next time!" I shout as we barely dodge it.
"Uh, Hiccup!" I look to Toothless. "Tail on fire!" He exclaims and so I look behind to see it's burning away.
Oh for Thor's sake!
"OHH NO!" I cry out in panic as we lose altitude.
"Try and make it to land, bud!" I encourage him desperately, hanging on tight to the saddle.
He tries as hard as he can to make it to land instead of the ocean, pumping his wings with great difficulty to throw us forward. Thankfully, we make it and we fall towards the ground behind a large hut.
We slam into the ground harshly and I'm thrown from the saddle, rolling quite a little bit away. Everything goes b l a c k.
But not for long, because I come to a few seconds later, blinking rapidly as I recall what happemed. I groan as I sit up, rubbing my now pounding head.
"You 'Kay, bud?" I mumble as Toothless comes over to check if I'm alright. He nods but brings around his tail.
It's broken.
"Okay. I'm going to have to find something to fix that, then!" I sigh, rubbing his head as I try to remain calm. The fall luckily extinguished the flames but the fabric is either too burnt away from the fire, or too torn from the landing, to fly with.
Maybe the forge will have something.
We both freeze when we hear voices.
"I heard a bang over here, so hurry up!" I hear someone say. "No, I couldn't tell what it was through the dust!"
Oh Yak dung. No no no no no!
Toothless and I run to hide desperately behind one side of the hut.
We're right on time too because the footsteps stop. "Well, Whatever it was, it's gone!"
"Ugh."
The footsteps fade away and we breath a sigh of relief.
"Okay, we're on foot for now. but bud, until I can fix your tail, we need to get you to the cove, y-you'll be safe their, So, I want you to go that way, while I cause a-a distraction." I whisper as anxiety twists my stomach into knots.
Toothless looks at me with a glare —He doesn't want me to get caught— and nudges me in the Cove's general direction.
"It's okay, I'll be fine, bud! Besides, I-I've been practising that call, remember?! These guys are stubborn enough to go strait for it. Just stick to the shadows and use distractions to your advantage." I whisper to him.
I creep out from behind the hut and look both ways, I give a thumbs up to Toothless and run out there with my spear.
I dash behind a hut opposite and hold my breath.
I peek out to see Toothless go in the direction of the cove, being as swift and quiet as he can, but he is also reluctant to leave me as he looks back every five seconds.
Oh! Vikings, two o'clock. I have to distract them.
I cup both hands to my mouth and let out a Night Fury call that is pretty damn authentic if I do say so myself.
Then, I run, and as I wanted, I hear footsteps behind me.
So, Toothless is good for now and--Hey, they think I'm a Night Fury! Idiots.
I dash right through a hut- both its doors are open, and lead them further and further from the cove.
That's right! Follow me. Follow the totally real Night Fury! Heh.
I let out another short call and use my spear to boost me over an upturned empty cart.
I slide under a hut–there's some space under here alright! –and hold my breath in fear of giving away my hiding place.
I watch as five pairs of boots run past, then they stop.
"Oh, Stoick won't be impressed with this. We might just have to take off again."
"Is that...Randi?" I whisper, confused, before covering my mouth in fear that they may of heard.
She's our age and didn't participate in training because her mother was sick, I think. She's an okay person, but I think she did bully me with the others occasionally. She's pretty kind hearted though generally. I guess she must of done it to fit in. That's understandable. Not that it excuses the behaviour.
"NO! Ugh, just wonderful. I really wanted to kill it." Astrid?
"Come on, we better get back to our station. We should be lucky that we are not Snotlout—having to be around Stoick all day." Fishlegs? Oh, so he's fighting...that's odd, I kind of figured he'd chicken out.
"Fiiine." I hear the twins say and the teens move away. I still stay under this hut for a few minutes for good measure before shuffling forward to peek out.
No one, that's good.
I crawl out and use my spear to pull myself up. I dust myself off casually. I smile a cheeky and smug grin and start to walk calmly away like I still live here.
I get to where the path splits and look both ways, before sneaking down towards the Cove quietly.
Wow. Easier than I thought it would be!
As soon as I reach the border of the forest I break into a sprint.
Idiots. I start to laugh silently. Can't believe they fell for it.
I know my way around here better then anyone else on Berk, due to me spending half my time in the forest..... the only other person I know who would know the forests like I do would be Astrid because she liked to train in it.
I mean, how the heck could I be a Night Fury?! Wow, they're stupider than I remember!
I take a deep breath- I have always loved the smell of the forest- as I go.
+++
I finally come into the Cove. I use my spear to hoist myself over the shield that's now laying on the ground.
I guess they moved that when they ambushed Toothless and I.
I get a wave of rage wash over me when I think of that.
We weren't hurting anyone.
"Toothless!" I whisper yell, throwing my spear down.
We weren't doing anythi—WHOA!
I feel a force push me down and I turn quickly to see Toothless sitting their laughing.
What the Thor?!
He gets off me so I stand up and hit my fist against my palm playfully.
"Why you little--!" I run at him and tackle him. We fall over and begin to playfully fight, rolling about.

Hey!
So, this chapter (although 90% was boring) was a pretty descent size—over 5 thousand words. It was another mini milestone so I thought I'd make it as long as I can!
Dropped a bomb shell or two in this chapter didn't I😂 can you guess who Astrid is betrothed to? Probably not, but still.
How did you like the haiku poem? I'm not a poet, that much is clear😂
So unfortunately for you this won't be the only crappy poem in this book😂
RUN WHILE YOU CAN!
Quote Of The Chapter
Hiccup: What?! he started it.....when we were five!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ps. I wanted to post two chapters because I feel really bad about the lack of updates.
Thanks for Reading!
