Chapter 29: An all to familiar place.

🤯🤯🤯🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆💥💥💥💥💥THANK YOU SO MUCH! WE'VE REACHED OVER FIFTEEN K READS! 😱 Is this a glitch?! I am internally and externally and lets not forget eternally grateful! It's nice to know that people read (and (hopefully) enjoy) my story all the while putting up with my infrequent updates.

Also it's been too long since my last update :(
At least it's here now, right?! Man I wish I had wifi at home...
HICCUP'S POV.

++few hours later++
Hmm. This is...familiar. I think, as I get a glimpse of a few strangely familiar sea stacks way down bellow that produce out of the raging sea, as we along with many other dragons fly through the night sky. It's a pretty cloudy night, so we blend in even better then usual as we fly on the bottom layer of them.

But the moon (about half full) still lights our way well enough to see. And the Monstrous Nightmare's around us that have lit them selves on fire from about to tail—because of the anticipation of the battle ahead—definitely help as well.
I mean, they're guys are dragons, so they'll have better eyesight than me anyway. Including Toothless.

I hold my spear close to me, testing the grip nervously. I brought it with me in case I needed it. Not that it will be much of a use. It's only wooden—not reinforced at all. Carved by a knife. And I'm not skilled with it, or anything, because if you know anything at all about me, it's that I am not very good with weapons. At all. I have no idea what I'd actually do with it if I faced a threat. Probably offer it to them as a piece offering.

We pass through a fluffy grey cloud and my jaw drops at the view on the other side. I grip the saddle handles a little tighter, as a massive feeling of uneasiness and danger sets in the pit of my stomach.
Oh gods. Oh gods. No. NO. Not here!
"Oh, gods. Berk. Its Berk." I mumble.
I hate my life.

"No. No, Anywhere but here..." I add shaking my head in despair as I start to panic a little bit. Toothless warbles underneath me in comfort. I pull back on the saddle quickly, so Toothless spreads his wings and we fly backwards gently as I stare ahead in horror. He flaps in place as the rest of the dragons move on towards their destination unflinchingly. I take quick panicked breaths.

The place where I lived. The place I grew up on. The place where I befriended Toothless...After I shot him down, that is. The place...the place where I was bullied and abused daily. The place where I lived in constant fear and dread. The place where I was banished. The place where I was humiliated. The place where I tried daily to impress everyone, but it was all in vain. The place where my da—Stoick lives. The very person who wanted to banish me like I was going on a time-out and was getting a slap on the wrist. All for making a friend with someone unexpected and actually being the possible link to the end of the war.

"W-Well, technically we're not breaking any so-called 'rules' because one: I-I'm not physically on berk, two: I-I hate this place a-and couldn't care less, and three: I'm not a viking s-so why should I follow their laws!" I ramble shakily, trying to gather my thoughts as I gesture wildly. Toothless croons in agreement, probably trying to comfort me too.

"O-okay, bud. Lets...Let's do this." I murmur, because we don't really have a choice. Then I somehow mange to pull myself together, getting back to business, as Toothless hesitantly moves forward once again. Nothing will ever get done if I sit here and dwell on every little thing that went wrong in my life.

We quickly and gracefully catch up with the mass of dragons, and even manage to move to be in the front cluster in a matter of seconds—dodging tails and wings along the way.
"A-Alright guys, charge!" I manage to call, pointing my spear at the island down bellow.

All the dragons advance at once, diving down from the darkness and roaring obscenities and challenges at the island as they approach, despite the stubborn Vikings whom (A/N: I hate that word. It sounds so fucking annoying. whom. Who-m. I just hate it. I hate the m in it. It's just a horrible word. Whom, Ugh. I try to avoid using the word at all costs. Egh) inhabit it won't understand.

Omniscient POV

"Hit them while they're surprised, grab the food, leave a dent, stay alive, and then get out!" Toothless orders, advancing with the dragons by their sides. Toothless has told Hiccup (well to the best that Hiccup can understand) that in raids the Night Fury is the one to lead because it is obviously the most powerful and amazing dragon, but never joins in straight away, lurking in the darkness and waiting for the perfect time to strike. Hiccup has kind of assumed this all his life, but he finds it's good to know that his theory is correct. "Under no circumstance will you grab a Viking! Child or adult." Toothless adds sternly, strongly against Viking abduction. Hiccup is too, actually, despite this being the worst place in the entire archipelago as far as he's concerned. It's part of a new plan—the duo only want animals to be captured (even though Vikings act like animals basically all of the time) because despite how annoying they are—they're still people. Hiccup doesn't want anymore people to die how his mum did. He'd never wish that on anyone.

"You can tell them to have a little fun with the Jorgensens if you want!" Hiccup leans down and whispers this to Toothless, as if to ease the tension, and in response the inky black scaled dragon makes a sound that mimics human chuckling.

The duo pull up swiftly to let the other dragons start, circling high above in the dark sky and looking down on the raid with jittering anxiety.

They watch from the safety of the darkness as a group of ferociously enthusiastic Deadly Nadders set a hut on fire, reach in, and fly off with chickens unscathed. Why there was chickens in the house? We may never know. The runaway pair look on as more and more chaos is emitted onto Hiccup's old island of residence.

What would they think of me doing this? I mean, they know I'm a traitor, but what they wouldn't expect is me attacking my old home. Is this even righ—BLOCK IT OUT! FOCUS, HICCUP! Hiccup is trying to do the right thing in the situation, but clearly his head buzzes with nervous thoughts. Can you blame him?

Suddenly, a horn blows loudly and Vikings flood out into the open from their houses, bearing incredibly sharp and well-made weapons. Funny how they will never know who made them. Who spent hours on end making sure they were perfect. Dedicating their time to these pieces of metal that will just break again anyway. They'd guess Gobber, right?! But, if they were smart and observant, they could look at the bottom of the blade, right by the hilt, you would see a small H carved in with expertise...sucks that Vikings are dumb, tasteless, moronic, and just senselessly stubborn.

A Monstrous Nightmare roars viciously and sets a catapult ablaze, facing off against several Vikings. A Gronkle tears a fence away with his jaw so him and nearby dragons can fly in and grab the bleating sheep. A Zipppleback breaks into a fishing hut and comes out in a fit of self-satisfaction with a net full of fish.

"Nadders! Cover the Gronkles!" Hiccup orders and they obey him, surprisingly. He guesses that it is because he's with Toothless and under his protection.

"Alright bud, I-I gets its almost time for us to make ourselves known!" Hiccup mumbles. "Well, you, anyway..." Hiccup adds as a second thought, and in response Toothless scans with his big green eyes for a target.
His sight catches on two green Nadders as they get netted by a few Vikings in the Night, close to the sheep pens.
"There, bud!" Hiccup adds, patting his side and pointing to the incident, but Toothless has seen it first anyway.

Toothless swoops up high and twists smoothly, before diving down and creating the whistle as his wings slice though the air, eyes narrowed at the target. Hiccup clings tightly to him, keeping low and hidden as he prays to all the gods he's ever heard of that this won't go wrong.

Toothless charges his blast in the back of his throat, and when it gets to the right size he frees the Nadders successfully. "Yeah!" Hiccup cheers in delight, but not loud enough for any Vikings to hear over the chaos (obviously), and his voice is carried off in the wind anyway.

Hiccup's POV (First POV)
By now the Vikings are fighting with dragons all over. It's getting messy, gruesome and disheartening. I look down to my left and deeply regret it, as I witness a Viking brutally stab a Gronkle right through the skull. My eyes widen "N-NO!" I look away and let out shaky breaths.
No. Gods no. It was exactly what I've been worried about seeing.
"T-Toothless. Do ya think I-It's time to put our p-plan into action?" I ask shakily, trying to recover, but it's so damn hard.

"Yeah!" Toothless grunts, using an explosion in a big farmers hut caused by a Zipppleback as a distraction. We sneakily touch down behind a hut, kicking up some dirt, under the cover, staying out of sight.
"There!" I whisper, seeing a trapped Nadder. I slip of the side of Toothless' back and my feet hit the ground. "We gotta be quick."

Aaaaand I just broke the rules. I returned. Legally they can kill me....IF they catch me. Haha that won't happen if I'm on a Night Fury! Haha. My fathers too stupid to realise anything. Oh gods. Why do I have to be back here?!
I leave my spear with Toothless so the dragon will be more calmer, and look over at the Nadder.
Time to free it.

I peek around both ways, checking for Vikings, but none are nearby.
"I'll cover you!" I hear Toothless quietly coo. I nod, thankful for his unconditional love and loyalty.

I stealthily make my way up to the Nadder.
"Shh. It's okay. Calm down!" I say as the purple dragon struggles a lot more upon seeing my approach. It's fall must have really shaken it up.
It probably thinks I'm gonna take its life. Poor creature. I better move quickly before any Vikings can get to it.

I hold my hand by its nose, its still netted. Then as quick as a flash I pull the net away with my hands, and look at the Nadder dead in the eye. I slowly rise a hand, pleading with my eyes for the Nadder to come to.

The Nadder eyes me suspiciously after getting up, and after a scary second she flattens her tail spines and presses her snout into my hand. Her eyes widen from splits to big friendlier orbs as she pulls back and trills happily.
I did it!

"Yes, I know, the queen i-is horrible. And she will pay, I promise! but please, get out of here, before it's too late!"
I exclaim, stroking her face to calm her down, and the Nadder nods in thanks and backs away. She opens her wings and springs up into the air, and I watch until she's disappeared into the clouds and completely out of view before I let out a breath of relief.

I hurry back behind the house, carrying the net with me because it could be useful. I fold it up and wrap it around my spear handle safely.

I get ontop of Toothless and pat his head. He launches into the sky and I open his tail. We zip, unseen, back into the sky, like a dart, and I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding as soon as we are high in the sky.
Thanks gods.
But not a second later, Toothless takes control and dips down towards a watch tower.

The intimidating whistle sounds again. I hang on with one hand tightly in anticipation, as I hold the spear in the other, clinging to the saddle like there's no tomorrow.

"NIGHT FURY! GET DOWN!" Can be heard bellowing from bellow just before Toothless blasts the tower with a plasma blast. As we swoop by, I turn my head to look back as I witness it partially crumbles.

"Yeah!" I cheer as it falls down. I helped build that a few months ago. Toothless looks back at me, flashing a gummy grin. "Hit it again!" I say goofily.
+-+++++----++++++----++++++----+++++-+
"Quick! Get out of here!" I whisper grunt. The Gronkle flies away.
Thud. Clonk. Thud.
My eyes widen in panic, but luckily Toothless has quicker reflexes, as he drags me behind a house as I hear uneven footsteps. We hold our breaths, being as quiet as humanly (and dragon-ly) possible.

I dare to peek around slightly to see that Gobber has just left the forge. No sounds come from it so I know he hasn't got himself another apprentice yet. And it's also not on fire from the inside.
He needs to move on. He has to get himself an apprentice, he just has to. It's not like I'm coming back, and it's not like I'm dead.

"Toothless, Stay. I'm going to get some leather!" I whisper-grunt, switching between languages. because I'm that talented. Just kidding. I just haven't learnt all the language yet.

He coos in worry but stays hidden. I stealthily make my way into the forge, through the back.

I keep low as I pass the window. I turn to see a pile of leather under a desk, untouched.

I duck down and pull it out quickly. I grab a few sheets of it– enough to make maybe another saddle, probably another flying harness and some other stuff –but I haven't made any decisions on what to make, just that I might need it.

I duck into my old back room and grab a handful of old shaping tools that Gobber doesn't use anymore, and put them in with the Yak leather. Suddenly I see a glint and I look over to notice a sharp spear head peaking out from underneath a large pile of rusty old metal.
Hmm. It would be useful!

I manage to grab the sort of freshly made sharp spearhead without causing an avalanche, all the while I try to ignore the fact that I'm steeling from the person who was nicest to me on Berk, and sneak back out of the forge.
Gods...I'm a thief. A thief in the night. Ha! Add that to the list of treachery.

I make my way to Toothless quickly and quietly. I smile slightly at him and rub his scaly head in greeting as I climb on him. He purrs happily at me, and I open his tail in order for us shoot up into the sky quicker than you could say 'Night Fury'.

As Toothless flies I unwrap the net and put the leather in it, the spear head in the middle. Then I tie the ends of it together and sling it over my shoulder like a make shift bag, praying that it won't spill out.

++++
"Alright bud, they're dropping off!" I exclaim with relief as I watch the dragons start to fly up.
Thank gods.
Toothless gurgles at me, and then flips over to the left. We dive down swiftly, blast a hut apart, and then see a stray sheep. Toothless quickly changes direction (I'm glad I have a good grip), grabs it and we fly off. He roars loudly and all the dragons (alive) grab their kill and leave.

I look around for Wildlife, and see her fly up to us.
"Wildfire! Why don't you have anything?!" Toothless exclaims, shocked.

"Yeah... this is just not my raid!" She says bluntly with a dragon-y huff, smoke coming out of her nose. Oh no. If she doesn't have anything, the queen WILL kill her.

"Here, take this!" Toothless urges her as he tosses over the sheep. I pat his side, agreeing with his choice.

She dives and quickly grabs it before it can hit the water, before she flies back up. Now she turns to us.
"Hey, thanks! but what will you give?" Wildfire exclaims.
Well the Night Fury doesn't really steal food anyway.
"Don't worry, we don't really have to get food anyway for her!" I reply with a small smile. "It's not like we serve her."
"That's good!" Wildfire answers in a dragon-y smiles. "Really good!"

"Hey bud, are you hungry?" I ask him after a minute and he looks back at me with big eyes that say: YESSSSS!
So I shrug with a grin and gesture to the water. Toothless dives and I detach myself from him.
I hold my breath, before jumping off when we're at a safe distance above the sea. I clutch my make shift bag close to me.

I plunge into the incredibly cold water and so does Toothless a second later.

I push myself to swim down further, squinting against the water, and I see a big Icelandic cod swimming by some coral. I nod to Toothless and point at it. He plasma blasts and it kills the fish. And the coral. Haha Oops.
The fish starts to float towards the surface.

I grab it and swim to Toothless with a little struggle since I'm not the best swimmer. I climb on and we shoot out of the water, both of us shaking droplets off.

"Better?" I ask as I hold the fish. Toothless rumbles happily, something I will take as 'better'.

"Its a good .. , but will .. really .. you?" Wildfire asks.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. But don't worry." I reply, nudging Toothless. He takes that as his cue, and opens his mouth to reveal several other fish.

But, still he dives down towards the water, snapping open his wings so we glide just above the ocean. I shift a little in the saddle, grab my spear from Wildfire gently, and point it at the water.

Wait for it.....
Wait for it!......

There!
I plunge the the spear into the water and stab a fish. "Yes!" I cheer, as I retrieve the now dead fish, and give it to Toothless to hold in his 'collection'.
Turns out the wooden spear isn't good for nothing.
++
"There! That makes  ten..eleven..twelve fish!" I say triumphantly to wildfire, a pile of fish in my lap as I count them. We haven't stopped or hovered, I've just been fishing 'em out as we go, and adding them to Toothless' collection, which as mentioned, now lays in my lap. Toothless will get most of this, but I'm still keeping one so I can have it for myself.

"That's a lot of fish you've got there. Anyway, thank you so .. for giving up your ... for me!" Wildfire says. "I will find a way to .. you."

"It was no problem!" Toothless and I say at the same time as we fly up higher.

---------____-----------a few hours later------------____---------
I lean on Toothless' side casually as we sit on a cliff face, surrounded by peacefulness. I happily sketch the scenery we see. Hundreds of feet bellow is a never ending forest, with leaves that are green, and orange, and even pink. The sunrise is the most prettiest thing, as it lights up the place and brings watch as well as a new day. Of course I can't capture the sunrise, but that doesn't mean that everything else can't be captured.

"Hiccup?" Toothless asks me.
"Yeah?" I grunt, a little distracted by the strokes I place on the paper, almost finishing the illustration now.
"Do you ever..." He pauses. "...miss Berk?"
I look up with wide eyes, and turn to face Toothless who looks at me with sad and curious eyes.

"W-What makes you say that?!" I ask, shocked.
"Well, it's just...I feel that I've taken you away from your life. And it's just... well I feel that if I wasn't in your life It would be .. better for you. Who .. if this didn't happen..by now you could be with Astrid, you could be doing your father proud, and you..you could be happier."

"Toothless!" I scold. "Don't say that. I mean, come on, it would be horrible if I was back on Berk. I know Astrid would never notice me, I would still be shunned, my dad would still be the worst father in history..and worst of all...I'd never be with you. Toothless you are my best friend. And anyway, imagine If I went back? You wouldn't be able to fly. Because I shot you down that day. I crippled you for life! I took away the one thing you cherish! I took the flight away from a creature that needs it so badly! I ruined you life, Toothless! Why don't you hate me?!" I exclaim, almost crying and shouting at the end, switching between the languages to get my point across.

"I don't hate you ... you saved me. You saved me. Saved me from the Queen's .., from the .. that I could of done, saved me from myself. I could never hate you Hiccup. I don't .. that I can't fly any .. on my ..., I love flying with you! I love sharing the .. with you that .. when in the sky, I love just .. time with you. But if you ever want to go to Berk, to your .., I won't stop you. I won't hold you back."

"Berk ISN'T my home, Toothless!" I roar a little. I take a breath and calm down. "Sorry for screaming. But Berk, isn't my home. It never was. And neither is this island. My home is with you. Toothless, home is where the heart is, and where your family is. Bud you are my family. Sure, sometimes I miss Gobber, or somehow in the slightest way my lousy excuse of a father, or sometimes Astrid. But I will never go back there. Not as long as I can help it. Seeing it today was terrible, setting foot on it was even worse, and seeing all them innocent dragons...I-it was horrific. Leaving Berk with you was the best feeling in the world. I will never go back. Never."

Toothless purrs in response and nudges me. I rub my hands on his head soothingly as he lays it in my lap, and we watch the view together as we try not to fall asleep.

Astrid's POV (It's now just after sunrise.)
"You know. Maybe we should head back to Berk. A raid will of happened." I exclaim to Randi and the others as the boat slowly and peacefully rocks from side to side. "Who knows the damage we took!"
Yep. We've been out here for like half a month, just hanging about. Because we can. We haven't yet came across any land. We've just been sailing around the open water. Tuff was getting paranoid that 'the land has disappeared' but really we have just been doing giant circles. We suck at sailing.

"Yeah. Good idea, they might need our help. All in favor say Aye!" Randi exclaims.
"Aye!" Ruff, Tuff, Fishlegs, Snotlout and I say.

"Alright! Snotlout, Fishlegs pull up the nets. Let's go home!" I exclaim and look towards the horizon.

Hope you're okay mum, Hope you're okay Dad.

Thanks for reading. Not a lot is happening yet but I have something small planned for the near future. The queen will live for a little longer yet. Oh, and their will be a small time skip next chapter.

My sister: I wonder what the swans at Bridgewater are doing right now?
Me: *shoots her a weirded out look* I don't know..being SWANS?!

A) yes actual swans.
B) yes Bridgewater is the actual name of the place. Creative, am I right😂 Tasmanian places are not that creative. It's obvious when we have the place Bridgewater. It's literally water. And a Bridge. And the bridge itself is called Bridgewater Bridge😂😂😂😂 though I've got to admit the name of the bridge does have a certain ring to it. But that might just be cause I live here lol.

C) Yep my sister is an idiot 😂 (WHO STILL HASN'T RETURNED HTTYD 2 *huffs* I know it was her😡 tbh I think she forgot where she hid it...)

Lol

And once again, I'm sorry it's been so long!
Bye!
