Chapter 2: Something to shoot at
Pic not mine. Obviously.
Hiccup's P.O.V.
My eyes scan around the night sky, and I narrow my eyes slightly as my sight catches on a shadow, it's visibly blotting out the stars. I hear the whistle growing louder and louder.
Is that what I think it is?
The shadow fires a purple deadly blast, and an explosion illuminates it, showing a silhouette as it swoops by.
It is! It's a Night Fury!
There!
I shoot where it should be and the force pushes me tumbling back and falling to the ground. I sit up in a crouch, breathing heavily, as I hear a snap and a loud cry. I see the shadow plummeting down into a forest.
"Oh, I hit it! YES! I HIT IT! Did anybody see that?"I cheer. Someone would of saw it. Surely.
No one replies.
Suddenly I hear a noise behind me and I turn around, to see a Monstrous Nightmare has showed up and crushed my bolas launcher.
No one....
"Except for you!" I sarcastically remark. I scream, running from the hill and across the outskirts of village as the dragon chases after me, launching and snapping at me.
I dodge a big blast that hits a stone ledge but I keep running, dodging another blast, and in desperation to survive I dart behind a torch pole and hide, just in time.
It becomes hot and I try and be as small as I can as its fire goes both sides of the pole. I cover my face and head with my arms desperately.
I'm scared...
Nervously I look to my right, slowly looking behind the pole it for the dragon.
Suddenly I hear a thwack and I look to see the chief battling the dragon. The dragon roars and the ‘great chief’ stops to adjust his helmet.
The dragon goes to breathe fire on the weaponless chief, but coughs up only a small little bit of flaming liquid instead, having exhausted its shots on me.
It lets out another little drop before looking....defeated.
Stoick is satisfied. "You're all out!"
He stalks towards the beast and lands two punches to the face, followed by a kick to the snout. The dragon turns and flies away, roaring angrily as it flees.
Oh, and there's one more thing you need to know...
Suddenly the pole's, the one I'm standing by, bottom melts away and it drops down as if being shortened, before tipping over and crashing down, almost crushing someone. The top breaks off, still flaming, and roles down the village, causing havoc. I wince.
I wince again, letting out a silent "Ooh!" And finish it off with another wince when I hear another crash.
"Sorry, Dad......" I say guiltily.
I hear a shout and a bunch of Nadders suddenly take off, taking sheep with them. They join other dragons that are leaving, as they carry nets full of fish and animals that they've stolen from us.
Oh Dad is mad.
"Okay, but I hit a Night Fury!" I say quickly, Pointing briefly towards the forest.
And now, he's boiling.
Dad grabs me by the back of my shirt and drags me towards our house. I pick up my feet to avoid being completely dragged as I scamper along next to him (as he still drags me).
"It's not like the last few times, Dad! I mean, I really actually hit it! You guys were busy and I had a very clear shot. It went down, just off Raven Point. Quickly, Let's get a search party out there, before it--"
My dad drops me, and I turn to face him.
Escapes.
"STOP! Just... stop. Every time you step outside, disaster falls. Can you not see that I have bigger problems? Winter is almost here and I have an entire village to feed!" Dad says.
Oh, so he doesn't believe me. And as usual, his village before his son. "THE NEEDS OF THE MANY OUT WAY THE NEEDS OF THE FEW!" He'd say. Typical.
Hmm.
Maybe I can lighten the mood....
"Heh, Between you and me, the village could do with a little less feeding, don't ya think?" I say, trying to cheer him up. I here protests from the village and catch a guy patting his stomach as if to ask if I'm calling him fat.
"This isn't a joke, Hiccup! Why can't you follow the simplest orders?" Dad booms.
The rest of the village seem to think I'm a joke.
"I can't stop myself. I see a dragon and I have to just... kill it, you know? It's who I am, Dad!" I say,
"Oh, you are many things, Hiccup. But a dragon killer is not one of them. Get back to the house!" He says quietly.
Oh, so things like Useless, Runt, Muttonhead, Fishbone, and Disappointment, then.
"Make sure he gets there. I have his mess to clean up!" He adds to Gobber loudly.
Gobber slaps my head lightly to get me moving.
Ruffnut laughs.
Tuffnut interjects with "Quite the performance!"
It's okay I know they love destruction. So that doesn't bother me.
"I've never seen anyone mess up that badly. That helped!" Snotlout joins in.
What so you don't feel as bad for the mess YOU'VE caused? I'm not the only..mess..maker in the village!
"Thank you, thank you. I was trying, so..." I say sarcastically as I trudge past them. I here an "Ow! Ugh." From Snotlout. Ha that's most likely from Gobber... or Astrid.
Fishlegs didn't say anything mean, and that is nice to know.
Astrid doesn't move either, but I can feel that she is angry.
I didn't hurt HER, I didn't NOT believe her, I'M the one who should be angry.
"I really did hit one!" I say to Gobber as we leave the village.
"Sure, Hiccup!" He replies, pushing me to climb the hill. I notice that it's becoming lighter now.
"He never listens!" I exclaim. I hear Gobber say something but don't quite catch it. I recon it was something to do with it running through my bloodline, or something.
"And when he does, it's always with this... disappointed scowl. Like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich!" I add, then imitate my father. I gather my big Viking accent.
"Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms. Extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fish bone!"
"Now, you're thinking about this all wrong. It's not so much what you look like, it's what's inside that he can't stand!" Gobber tries to reassure me.
I sarcastically say, " Thank you for summing that up!" in response in a emotionless voice, to try and hide how hurt I am right now.
Why can't Dad just speak to me? Is it so hard to just believe in your son? I'm only being me!
"Look, the point is, stop trying so hard to be something you're not!" Gobber says.
"I just want to be one of you guys. Why can't I be given a chance?!" I say before going into the house and closing the door. I stare at the fading fire in frustration.
I'm not going to pass up my chance to prove myself just because my Dads being oblivious to it all.
I burst out the back door in search for the dragon, stumbling a bit as I hit the ground.
I bring out my journal and flick through, aiming for the page with the map of Ravens Point.
I made this map ages ago, I sometimes hang around in the forest because of the whole bullying thing. Okay, so I mostly hang around in the forest, like spend most of my day in here. I like to map every new bit that I come across. No one knows the land like I do.
I even have hiding places like a really cool large bush or a cave to hide in listed on every map, so In case I do forget where they are, I always will know the way to them.
As I flick through I pass many maps- of large caves, mountains, hilly lands, cliff faces and forest areas- before stopping on Ravens Point.
I get ready to start searching.

Was my second chapter any good? I mean, OBVIOUSLY I can't include the "those who stay will look after Hiccup" because, like, he wasn't there. So.......tips?
