Chapter 15: I don't wanna come first!
Slightly edited: 22/06/2021
Toothless' POV
I actually like the name my viking gave me!
Toothless may sound stupid to you dull creatures, but it's the surprise shown when I reveal my teeth that I like. Like "oh he can't be so bad! He's toothless!" Then I'd bring out my teeth and they'd scream. Mwahahahahaha!
And can you believe that my viking made me another tail fin?!
Like whoa! I can fly again! How is he so smart?! It's ingenious.
We practiced with it and I got to roll around in some heavenly grass that my Viking calls 'dragon nip!' Now THAT was fun!
My little Viking is awesome, I've grown quiet attached to him. I mean, the little smarty built me a new tail! A NEW TAIL! And he brings me lots of fish! I think I already know, that I would protect him, with my life. Is that weird? I'm a dragon, he's just a human.
Ooh, speaking of the little viking, here he is now!
"Hey bud! Thought I'd stop in before training. Here's some breakfast!" He says cheerily. He drops a small basket onto the ground and tips it over. Yummy looking fish spill out.
I rub against him and purr in gratitude.
"Thank you!"
I dig in and he chuckles.
Hiccup's POV
I stay with Toothless a little longer before heading to training. I wanted to come early, so I'm not late, and so the others don't swamp me on my walk over.
+++
Astrid and I are the only ones left in this training session thing because the others have all been called "out!" Or "done!" By Gobber already.
Astrid throws her weapon at the Nadder and in result it charges. Astrid runs out of the way while I just stand there.
I drop the mace I was holding and hope for the best. The Nadder stops in front of me and starts to sniff. I cringe back awkwardly.
I here a cry and look to my left, it's Astrid.
Oh no. I can't let her hurt this dragon.
She lets out a battle cry and she runs at the Nadder with her axe raised, so to avoid dragon injury I secretly scratch the Nadder until I find its sweet spot on its left side: conveniently on the side Astrid can't see. It drops down in bliss, a quiet purr escaping it. Astrid is shocked.
Heheheh umm... oops.
+++++
Later at night, I enter the Great Hall through the doors, after a few hours of drawing in the forge. I grab some food from the foods table. I've decided to sit and eat here tonight because I kinda can't be bothered starting the fire at home right now. I go and take a seat at the empty table. Suddenly, the teens (apart from Astrid) all scramble over to sit at the same table, with some nearby Vikings moving closer too.
Um, ok? This is the complete opposite of what usually happens. I mean, I've NEVER had this much positive attention before!
+++
I soon head home and curl up in front of the fire after I light it.
They're all suddenly giving me this attention that I don't want because I'm doing "so well" in training. I don't want to win! I'm just staying alive and preventing injury. Why does my life have to be so complicated? I can't just give up saving the dragons and myself in training or they'll all suspect something is up!
Oh, what a mess.
The next morning, I get up early because I want to go and see Toothless. I grab a fish from the stockpile on my way, knowing he'll be hungry because he is fill hopeless at fishing.
+++
"There ya go, bud!" I say, chucking him the fish. He snatches it in the air and I sit on a rock.
I've brought a hammer here this morning because apparently I need it for training today. Toothless doesn't mind.
I randomly decide to pick it up. It catches the sun and I smile as I adjust it to sit by Toothless out of curiosity –to see what he does. He perks up suddenly and pounces on the light. I move it and he chases after it. I laugh silently at him.
After a while of playing around, I set the hammer down and just hang with Toothless, drawing him and scratching him.
+++
I am walking through town when suddenly I get yanked behind a house by my arm.
This again?!
"Oh, what is it now, Snotlout?! " I groan, turning to face him as I back away from him.
"You are going to tell me what you did yesterday. Or else!" He says, clenching his fist with a scowl on his face.
Why can't he just leave me alone?! I've had enough! He, and everyone else, has done this to me for years and it's high time I put a stop to this!
"Or else what, exactly?" I snap. "Snotlout, isn't it obvious that beating me up isn't going to work?! I've had enough of you! So, maybe use that brain of yours for once to come up with a new plan!" I say and before Snotlout can respond I dissapear back into the open and run home, hoping to relax. That felt good to stand up against him, really really good actually. It probably won't end well, though.
I haven't eaten today and I didn't end up eating last night because of the attention. I'm just going to go and eat at the hall...hopefully I won't be bothered this time.
I walk past my home and up to the Great Hall, pushing open the big doors and receiving a few more glances than the usual ones I receive— they're always of disappointment or disgust, but these ones aren't.
Hmm.
I walk up to the food table and quietly grab a plate of yak meat and some fresh bread. On my way back out the door I grab a mug of warm buttermilk. I don't often eat in the hall, because of the words from the villages pointed at me. Its easier to eat at home away from their eyes, or go without. And today all these staring eyes and whispers are making me more uncomfortable then usual. The events of last night are not helping me and I don't want to relive it.
I quickly make my way to training once I am finished, turning up at the same time as everyone else and we all stand around.
"EVERYONE!" Gobber gains our attention. Fishlegs was reciting facts, Astrid was sharpening her axe, the twins were fighting, Snotlout was kissing his arms and grinning at Astrid flirtatiously. Oh, and I was just thinking about Toothless. The usual.
Okay, so I may have been thinking of us running away. If you get past the insanity of the idea, It's not a bad idea. "You'll be fighting a new dragon today!" Gobber tells us, breaking me out of my thoughts again. "Today is about....well, I got nothing." Gobber seems to be out of ideas.
After all, it's not like I would be missed.
"Meet, the Terrible Terror!" Gobber says, before opening the cage by pushing the lever down and the Terrible Terror emerges. It looks up and licks it's eyeball.
The terrible terror, being small, did the complete opposite of intimidating the other teens. In fact, Snotlout laughs.
Tuffnut smirks. "HA! That's like the size of my--" he is cut off by the Terrible Terror screeching and latching onto his face. Us teens back away from the vicious little critter.
"AH! GET IT OFF!" Tuff screams.
I see the sun beaming down at us, and I look down to my shield that I have in hand.
Familiarity hits me, and I smile slightly to myself, adjusting the shield for the sun to hit it right.
As soon as the Terrible Terror sees the light created by the sun on my shield it abandons Tuffnut and chases after the spot.
So my theory is correct! It falls for it just like Toothless did. Hah! These dragons are the same.
"OH, I'M HURT! I AM VERY MUCH HURT!" Tuff wails, running off.
I lead the Terror into the enclosure by having it chase the light, and put my foot in front of the flap to stop it from coming back out. I smile and look back, satisfied.
The dragon didn't get hurt, I didn't get fried, and this session was over quickly. Maybe I can go see Toothless again?
Tuff says, "Wow, he's better than you ever were!" To Astrid. Wow, Tuff. That was a stupid idea. Little do you know, all this is thanks to Toothless, not me.
She scoffs, clearly disagreeing with him, and kicks him so he falls to the ground.
Gobber quickly comes over and pulls the handle up, the log comes down, effectively trapping the dragon.
"Okay, g-good session... learnt lots of...lots of stuff. Good job! Yeah, uh, see ya!" I ramble as I run out.
I don't stop running until I get to the Forge, checking over my shoulder to be sure I don't have unwanted company from people who want to say or do unpalatable things. For example, expose my secret.
I head into the Forge and get started on my new project, getting what I need from my little section of the forge and doing it in the main area because there's more space available.
I just have to hope Gobber doesn't walk in.

3RD P.O.V
"Did he just...." Snotlout trails off.
"Yep." Gobber says, seemingly unaffected.
"A-again?" Fishlegs chimes in.
"Yep." Gobber repeats.
Astrid just glares, staring at her axe...yeah she wants to hunt down and chop up a certain someone. Restrict yourself, she tells herself, murder is illegal.

Thanks for reading :)
How'd it go?
Oh and I just want your opinion on the following.
Me: *at dreamworld on Mainland Tour with teachers and students. Twenty four of us exactly, counting three teachers*
*teacher number 1 looks up and sees the giant drop, well, drop.* teacher number 1: why are none of them screaming?
Me *without looking up, keeps walking.*: it's probably because they're all unconscious.
Teacher (laughing slightly): Sophie!
Do you think this is funny? Cause it cracks me up every time I think of it. It's a true story, btw. Oh and it was my first time going to mainland Australia, I only live in Tasmania.
Bye!
