Chapter Eight

'I wanted to surprise you but I guess this is how we had to meet. How was your Summer?' she asked me as she began to curl her hair with her finger.

I pulled out a pencil, but not immediately. 'My Summer was horrible, to be honest. While on our layover to Paris I met a guy, Ross, and we kind of hit it off. But I had to go back to our flight. There, I noticed you hadn't gotten on and I was worried so I went back to his apartment where I could stay while I looked for you and then,' - I choked up. I don't know what got into me, it's just I couldn't get my thoughts out into words.

She put her hand on my shoulder and smiled. 'You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. And the reason I didn't make the flight was the tour I was on went over its time limit and I wasn't able to get there and make the flight.'

'I found the guy dead.' I let out.

She raised an eyebrow. 'What the hell, Rachel?'

I grabbed the pencil from her. 'You know what Juliet if it wasn't for you being late to the flight I wouldn't have found him dead.'

'You would have sooner or later!' she fired back.

I put all my belongings together and stood up from my seat. 'Ever since you came into my life, it has been an emotional roadshow. Stay out of it!'

I began walking away from her and up a few rows when she spoke out. 'At least I didn't sleep with my brother!' she said.

I turned around, face red and anger enraged. 'What did you just say?'

Juliet stood up at this point, with her bag on her back and her phone in her left hand, which had a henna tattoo. 'You heard me,' she paused, 'You all heard me! Rachel slept with her brother!'

'I did not!' I yelled back at her. A single tear found an exit out of my eyes and I tried my best to hold my emotions in. 'What ever possessed you to do that, is beyond me. But I'll have everyone know that I did not sleep with my brother. How could I when he has been dead for ten years?'

I exited the room. Did I just lie about that? Yes, she was speaking the truth. How she knew that is not the best thing to know at this point.

My plan was working. I'm inches away from breaking her, I just know it. Next thing on y list will end her life.

"Where is she going?' Profesor Robbins asked as she pulled up a power point from her MacBook.

A girl in the black blue colored hair stood up. 'That was Rachel Mendez!' she called out. 'And what ever the girl in the front said was not the truth, just to let everyone know.'

I turned around and looked at her. She looked dead at me and sat back down to where she was sitting. She was trying to ruin my plan.

After class, I waited for her at the door, and when she realized this she began to pace faster. I followed her down the honor's hall before she finally stopped.

'What the hell do you want?' she asked me as she looked me up and down, gave me a look, and proceeded to walk away from me.

I followed her out to the parking lot where the sun had engulfed the whole Earth in heat that was so unbearable I began to sweat on the spot. 'What's the deal with what you said in class?' I asked, wiping my forehead.

She turned around, and she didn't look happy. 'How could you be so low like that?' she asked. The breeze didn't move any of her blue hair since it was so short. 'I don't know the girl, but I've been through her situation. Whatever you're trying to do is not going to help in the long run. Maybe you should rethink your life.'

She walked away from me for the third time, but this time I never budged. I let her do her thing, and I would just talk to her the next day of class.

I entered the building where my dorm is, and the air conditioning seemed to be on full blast because it felt like December in here. The young woman at the front counter grabbed my ID, scanned it, and handed it back to me in a matter of seconds.

Not just Rachel, but that blue haired freak will pay.

Gia went to her closet to find a dress for the party we were going to tonight. The first one she picked was Teal and was a bit on the more extreme side. 'What do you think?' she asked me as she switched between the Teal dress and a zebra print one, which I thought was hideous.

'That zebra one will be the death of you!'

'I have another dress,' she added as she went back to the closet and pulled out a black Wednesday Adams style dress. 'What about this one?'

I nod my head. 'I love it!'

Now I never wanted to go to this stupid party Gia had gotten invited to, but she persuaded me too and told me that if I ever needed anything that she would be there for me. It was now my turn to find out what I was wearing to the party.

'What do you have?' she asked as she began to change into her black dress. 'If you need something I got you!'

I went to my closet and I opened it up to find that my mother did bring all my dresses. I had the same exact dress as Gia, so I couldn't choose that one. I had a mint green one, but that was too long for the summer heat. I finally chose the brown one which matched my heels.

'Perfect!' Gia squealed.

It took me almost thirty minutes for me to get into my dress, apply my simple makeup, and fix up my hair. Gia was done like that.

'I only had to do some reapplication of some of my makeup, and my hair was already done in this ponytail and I didn't want to change it. I'm sure we won't be too late.' She told me as we made our way down the crowded streets of the University.

'What is this party for again?' I asked in a more timid tone. There was a slight breeze outside, enough to make me hold my dress down from time to time.

'I don't know. Some girl invited me and said to bring a guest. I think it's for this sorority or something.'

Sorority? That was strange because the street we were going down was nothing but house rented out by five or six college students.

'Who invited you?' I asked.

We made it to a house with red steps and a blue front door. 'I think her name is Juliet! She said to go to her friend's house, and this is it.'

I stood there paralyzed and staring at the door.

'What's up, Rachel? You're not leaving me hanging here now are you?'

I couldn't move. I was not about to go to a party with Juliet, the one who some how miraculously knew my secret. The one who made me find Ross dead. The one who was such a-

'Rachel, how nice to see you here!' Juliet's voice said as she opened the blue door. 'I didn't expect to see you here, at least with someone like Gia!'

Gia smiled. 'She's my roomie, and I had no one else to with!'

Gia entered the house as I still stood there, scared of what could happen next. Juliet put her arm around my shoulder and led me into the house. 'You'll be fine!' she told me, 'I have a surprise for you!'
