10. Bloodshed and Bullet Wounds
Carl's pov:
Richard brings Carl all the way to the roof of the compound.
"Move it," Richard says and pushes Carl to the very edge of the roof.
Great. He didn't shoot me so he can kill me now in front of my dad.
Carl looks down below him and sees his dad, pure terror on his face, along with the rest of the group.
Rick reaches into his belt to grab his gun, but then Richard says
"Nope. Not so fast." And he presses his pistol into the back of Carl's head.
All Carl wants to do is call out to his dad and tell him he's sorry for running off.
He should have never followed Nell.
He can't speak at all though, because his mouth is stuffed with cloth.
So instead, his eyebrows crinkle up in fear.
"We can work something out," Rick says, bringing his hand up to show his peace. "You just bring the boy down here and we can figure this out."
"The boy ain't going nowhere. Not until you tell me the location of your base. It must be nice if you all are so tidy and clean."
Why does he need the farm if he has a huge compound?
"Okay, okay. You just bring Carl down here and we will tell you the location." Rick says in a calm tone.
"You tell me first. Or I'll kill him." Richard says, pressing the gun harder into Carl's head.
Carl winces in pain as the barrel of the gun digs farther into his skull.
That's gonna leave a bruise.
Rick looks at Shane, his best friend since before the apocalypse. They both don't know what to do.
Risk his son getting shot? Or risk all of their lives and tell him the location?
Rick looks around, hoping to find some sort of weakness. There isn't just one man on the roof with Carl, but dozens are surrounding Rick and his group too.
These people are armed, their guns pointed and ready to shoot.
Any attempt to attack would end up in all of them getting killed, including Carl.
Rick's thoughts were interrupted by a gunshot.
It was Richard's.
He shot towards the sky in an attempt to show Rick that he would kill Carl, no problem.
"You think I'm joking?!" Richard shouts, placing the gun back up to Carl's head. "I will shoot him!! I will!"
"One last chance..." Richard says, slightly calming down. "Give me. The location. Of. Your. Base."
"Alright, alright! You win.." Rick says. "We live in a farmhouse, not too far from here. Continue in that direction..." Rick points into the trees. "And you can't miss it."
"Now..." Rick adds. "Bring the boy down."
Shane shoots Rick a surprised look. Why would he tell them the location of the farm?
Richard smirks at the new information, goes back into the building, and appears again at ground level, bringing Carl with him.
"He's a smart one. Would have been a shame if I shot him." Richard takes the cloth out of Carl's mouth and pushes him towards his father.
Rick hugs Carl tightly with one hand and looks around to see all the people still pointing their guns at them.
"You may lower your weapons, Rick has been very cooperative," Richard says, reaching into the holster on his belt. "But sadly, Carl knows too much. We can't have him spoiling all the fun!"
Richard reaches into his holster to grab a hold of his gun.
Yet, before he could even begin to draw his weapon, Rick whips out his pistol, aiming with quick precision, and shoots him in the head, in one swift motion. Rick didn't want it to happen this way, but he had no choice.
Richard was a goner from the moment he threatened Carl, even though he had to die anyway because he knew the location of the farm.
Richard immediately collapses, smashing his head against the hard concrete floor. A pool of blood gushes from the bullet hole on his forehead. Dead.
Rick grabs Carl and pulls him close to him.
The silence ends when the people who surround them start firing their guns. The gunshots echo through the woods, followed by sparks of light and clanks of metal.
"RUN!!" Rick yells at his group. He sees Carol, Andrea and Glenn sprint off toward the forest, disappearing in the thick trees.
Lori grabs Carl and runs to hide behind a huge chunk of metal hanging from the compound.
Rick and Shane stand their ground, dodging bullets and firing their guns at the same time.
There are a lot of them, at least ten, so Rick and Shane take cover behind what looks like a military vehicle.
The harsh series of gunshots fly through the sky as the smell of gunpowder fills the air. Bullets whizz by, striking the car and the compound, some are even shooting at the trees looking for Carol, Andrea, and Glenn.
The two former police officers pop up from behind the car, returning the fire at the six men who remain standing.
"Rick, we've gotta hold them off!" Shane shouts over the chaos, his eyes focused on the men making their way toward where Lori and Carl are hiding.
Rick clenches his jaw and carefully aims his gun. In one shot, one man is down. With the second, another man collapses.
Before they know it, the parade of bullets stops flying towards them and all of the men are dead on the floor, puddles of blood covering the ground.
Rick sighs and wipes the sweat from his forehead.
He feels relief for about five seconds before Lori yells in fear.
"Rick! Come quick! Carl's been shot!" Lori's voice breaks at the end of her sentence.
Rick's heart drops when he hears Lori yell that. He runs over to where they are taking cover. Lori lies on the ground, Carl in her lap with blood seeping through his shirt.
He was shot in the abdomen. He needs to get back to Hershel, fast.
Author's note:
Sooo, I changed things up a bit and changed the way Carl got shot. Everything that is different in this story would be due to Nell. Like if Nell and Carl never met, then he would have gotten shot by Otis.
Even though some things are gonna be different, many things will stay the same as the show. Hope you're enjoying it!
❤️❤️❤️
