TONAL PAGE
*WILL NOT BE USED IN FINAL GRADE*
So, this is my first A-Level Art page I ever did. I know this to be fact because I'm still quiet proud of this.
This is the overall page.
The topic for this page is Tones, which means shading done with a pencil.
Backgrounds:::
For backgrounds, I mainly used neutral colours, torn or full pieces of A4 paper.
What is going on in the actual piece?
I used a reference image of a skull, I edited so it could be black and white and I used black paper as a boarder.
This is my drawing. You can see when I first started I couldn't shade, but I got the proportions right. If that's the case, why can't I get proportions right now? That's because there's a trick you're taught in Art.
You get an image, you print it off. On the back of that image you use a piece of graphite (which is in the class room) and you scribble over where that image would be. You flip it over, stuck it down with masking tape, and use a pencil to trace over lines. When you lift up the image, the lines of the image are on the clean sheet, and you shade and fill in the rest.
For most pages you will pick an artist and talk about that artist, you will display an image that artist has done and do your piece that is inspired by the artist.
This artist I used was an artist we all did. Usually when you're in Year 12 you all do the same thing to get used to different techniques.
We studied the artist Martha Alf.
Now I know what you're thinking: How do you get enough information for the artist study? Sometimes you don't and you have to make things up, you have to say things like; 'clearly he/she/they want to show a whimsical feeling', or 'it's clear the artist wanted to display their struggle'. It's a bit of real information with a lot of fake information — just don't let your art teachers/tutors know that.
