PREVIEW
The wind from the window blew softly against my bare face and passed through the back door in the hallway. The streets erased of footsteps, and the sky filled with grey clouds was the only presence that night. It was hard to tell if I was cheating the reality of living one, and I didn't care because I was there at Saebyong's, on the verge of our farewell.
"Stay," I turned, signing with a pool of questions running in my head. I watched his lean body shifting into a more comfortable position against the wall. "Stay, Just one night" I knew I could stay not for long, but I had no heart to tell him.
"only if you read me something." I saw his lips breaking into the quietest grin. He looked so handsome that looking at him direct appeared too much. Every part of me wished to hold his hand and stay with him forever, but a wish on time has no degree of relevance with reality.
"let me check what we have," Saebyeog said, pacing towards his wooden shelf that belonged to his late grandma. SaeByeog's owned a remarkably upscale house in Gwangan. You could even see the bay of Busan from the top of the building of his apartment.
Every other piece of furniture was either designed by Teo Yang or brought from foreign. The vintage wooden shelf that belonged to his late grandma didn't match the interior but somehow completed it. He kept his favorite music records in it, unorganized. " It confirms the presence of life in this house. I'll society organize it when I leave." He always said with a fond smile.
"I'll read you the story of two moons" I smiled, taking a seat near the window where SaeByeong was leaning before. I knew the story by heart, and it was one of the few books that he had. he liked to read and preferred borrowing than buying, "My contribution to the green of the world" was his motto.
SaeByeog was a sophomore at Busan University, and my college journey was yet to begin in Seoul. I recalled showing him my acceptance letter from SNU. His eyes studied the letter, "You should take it," he had said calmly.
"How will I go from visiting you every day to not even seeing you once a week?" Saebyeog retained me in a hug, "We'll make it work. We'll face time during weekdays and Try to visit each other on weekends. Oh, and we can write to each other as well. Like old age" I shifted into a more comfortable position holding him tighter, Saebyeong chuckled.
"what if things change?" Saebyeog patted my back, planting a kiss on my head, "Then We'll find a way to fix it." I parted and looked at him. His eyes looked just as pretty but sadder. "Kim Youra, You'll always be my last first kiss and every first after that. You're the one I want to wake up to each morning till my final dawn," he said as if he read my mind. I lifted my feet and planted a kiss on his cheek. He took my hand and entwined our pinkies, "I promise, Nothing will change." I smiled amid tears. "Stop crying." Saebyeog caressed my cheeks before lifting me to kiss.
Saebyeong read one chapter from the second book of the story, and I looked at the moon in wonder if in any verse to have two moons for something earth was capable of, then I remembered how unsettling it was for stargazers. "You can lay down if you want" I nodded.
The moon was reflecting on the glass wall of the kitchen as I lay on the floor. "All my troubles seemed so far away," SaeByeog hummed " You're one man, Listening to the Beatles in today's world, " he chuckled, resting his face on his palm. "Such a shame for you to not have the taste" he laid beside me and saw the only bright thing that lighted up the night. SaeByeog touched my fingertips, humming the song peacefully. I buried my face in his chest and slowly drifted to sleep.
