A Leaf Turned.
May gulped as she peered into the room. Kellyn and Keith were resting on a couch while Purple and Dawn were talking off to the side. Was this the group she was with? She gulped softly before she walked in and over to the conversation. Dawn noticed her and smiled.
"Good morning, May. Are you here for a reason or-?" May held up a paper, which changed Dawn's train of thought. Concern washed over the bluette's face as she touched the brunette's head. "Why..."
"Don't... Just..." The door opened as the trio turned to see Paul. He noticed the little exchange and paused. A calm smile crossed his face as he went over to them.
"Dawn, Purple, go get everyone up. We'll have a brief meeting, ok?" The duo nodded slowly as they went to grab the others. Paul took the paper from May as she shuddered. "You good?" She nodded.
"Yeah... I just had a hard time getting here. People worrying, bad weather, almost got lost..." He smiled before helping her sit down as the two boys on the couch started waking up.
"We all get that sometimes. You'll be surprised when you see the full group." She nodded as Kellyn rubbed his eyes. The duo came out of a door as a loud complaint filled the air. The group chuckled as Cessil and Bonnie came in. Qidorr and two others slipped in as someone called out.
"Someone needs to keep Purple away from the bucket!" Purple hissed.
"And someone needs to keep you away from your cards!" Paul chuckled lightly as a brunette came in.
"Knock it off, you two. Sit down. We'll worry about who did what later." He sighed as they settled down. "Now I know some of you have questions." Dawn mumbled something under her breath. "And I'll explain. May's a Turner, yes. But after I talked to her a couple weeks ago, sides weren't a thing."
"Why? Did something happen?" Dawn glanced at May, who had lowered her head. Paul grimaced.
"May'll be joining us so that she can recover from a condition that hit. I'll give you guys the details later. Don't be afraid because she's on the other side. Things might change. Just treat her like a teammate." Purple smiled as she placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Copy that, boss. I'll have no problem with that." The others nodded with a similar smile across their face. Cessil stood up and held out a hand.
"Come on, May. I'll show you to your room for the time being."
She smiled as she took the hand and he led her into the door and to a door with a small sign that had her name on it. Inside was a simple bedroom with several counters and shelves. Seats were near the counters and there was a small covered window next to the door. There was a small area with a door, mostly with a small bathroom area and small kitchen. It had everything that could be needed for recovery. She smiled as she turned to him.
"Thank you." He nodded softly.
"When you're ready, we'll be out in the sitting room."
She nodded and he left. She placed down the small bag that she had brought with her. She hadn't brought a lot, but she made sure to grab a couple changes of clothes just in case. She sighed as she put her stuff away and went to where the others were. It could've been a moment of just blinking and they were colliding. She was in her room for maybe a minute and poor Kellyn was red in the face as he and Keith tried to counter Dawn and Paul. Two cute ships going against each other? Could've been worse. She went over to where the trio she didn't know and Bonnie were watching.
"I leave to settle down and this happens?" Bonnie scoffed.
"Wait until I push them together." And with those words she went over to the miniwar. May sighed as the brunette from before sighed.
"That'll be a deadly cleanup." He turned to her with a smile. "Murph. I'm one of the few communicators in the league and an operator for the rangers." She shook his hand.
"I've been wondering since I saw you with Max. You're also in the Story Chain, right?" Murph smiled.
"I jump around often." He turned to the other two, who were staring at the argument as Bonnie looked for a good entry point. "May, this is Lunick and Ben, two of my closest friends and good coworkers of mine." They smiled as they waved at her. She nodded to them as a yelp escaped the argument. Bonnie had pushed Paul into Dawn, leaving them in sheer shock and red faces. Kellyn had his head buried in Keith's chest as they hugged each other for moral support. She smiled.
"One point for Bonnie!" Paul hissed.
"Wait till I start pushing you into your boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend!"
"That's not what I heard yesterday." Kellyn countered as he pulled his head up. She went red, seeing herself getting cornered.
"Game on you guys!" The others giggled at that. May smiled as she sat down. This would be fun.
~!*!~
Kellyn, May, Lunick and Keith fell silent as Paul talked to Max about something. They were hiding in a tree while the purple haired leader talked to the Story Chain leader. Finally a soft voice called up to them.
"Coast is clear." They went down with a chuckle.
"That wasn't too bad." May said softly as Keith grabbed her arm to support her.
"You guys did great. Nice job." They giggled as they continued. May, with only a few days with the shadiest chain of the league, was already doing really well. She had regained some stability and confidence. Not only that, but she was sure that this was the side she needed to be on. They kept going as they arrived at a small building. Ash and Serena were waiting for them. A smile crossed the champion's face as he spotted them.
"You guys didn't get caught by Max did you?" Paul smiled.
"My group is better than that, Ash. He didn't suspect a thing." The other three smiled as Ash looked at them. Serena smiled at May.
"Ah... May... you look great from the last time I saw you." May smiled as Ash took a steady breath.
"This is the group that had to make the biggest recovery... and you guys are really gaining. I just have a few questions." He glanced at Kellyn, who immediately froze. The group laughed at that. "Kellyn... how are you as to be independent?" Kellyn gulped.
"I'm doing a lot better. I think my only problem is just some normal problems like remembering to do certain things or getting myself together, but I've been getting better at that." Ash nodded as he glanced at Lunick.
"I'm not going to like the answer I get, but are you getting better with supporting yourself?" The group shook their heads as Lunick rubbed his head sheepishly.
"I've been trying, but my mind keeps slipping." Ash nodded as he glanced at Keith.
"How about you? How's the stability?" He paused.
"On and off. I've been trying, but it doesn't always work..." Ash smiled at him before glancing at May.
"I almost don't need to ask because you look like you're doing better." She scoffed.
"And you look like your girlfriend slapped you." The group chuckled as Ash shook his head.
"I'm not even going to try. Come sit down you guys before Max comes by." They went inside and sat down.
"Avoid Max Day. I can't wait to see his reaction." Serena said softly as they giggled.
"Speaking of which..." May glanced at Ash. "Have you made up your mind?" She nodded.
"When I'm done recovering, I'm with you guys. It feels like the better choice." Serena nodded.
"Once you're ready, we'll catch you up." She nodded.
~!*!~
She smiled as she and Paul looked at the results. She won. After a couple weeks of recovery, she had won.
"I did it..." Paul smiled at her as she held the paper close. "My family is going to be so happy..." He gripped her shoulder.
"If you want, one of us can fly you home so you can tell them. I'll tell Ash the results and we can go from there." She nodded as he headed for the door. She sat down on her bed. Her stuff was in its bag. She wasn't sure what she would see, but expectation became reality as the results showed her goal. She put the paper gently into her bag as Cessil poked his head in the door.
"Ready? My friend and I are going to take you home." She nodded as she grabbed her stuff and followed him. A small boy with a horse-like pokemon near the water. He smiled as he helped them on.
"Next stop, Petalburg City!"
~!*!~
She gulped as she knocked on the door. She wasn't sure if Max was home or not. Hopefully not. Her dad opened and a smile came.
"Hey May." She nodded as he let her in. She went in and to the living room. Her mom saw her and gave her a hug. She smiled as she spotted Max and Drew talking in another room. A soft noise escaped her as she called out.
"I get a better greeting from the adults than my boyfriend? Wow..." Drew glanced over slightly and practically teleported beside her, pulling her into a hug. She giggled at his action as Max walked over she pulled away as she faced her brother. It had been a while since they met face to face. He gulped.
"May."
"Max."
The two siblings hugged briefly before the group sat down. She sighed as she glanced at Max. He wouldn't glance at her, but she could tell he had been worrying. He was really bad at hiding it. Her parents kept looking back and forth between the duo while Drew glanced over May. She pulled the paper out and sighed.
"Alright... someone needs to stop the silence. I can't take it."
"You're the one that disappeared." Max whispered. She paused with a soft smile before looking at the paper.
"I have some good news. And I think you all should know it." She gave the paper to her mom before going into the kitchen. She heard a gasp escape her mother as she looked at it. May smiled as she grabbed a glass of water and went back in. Norman smiled at her while Max looked lost.
"That is some very good news, May. I'm glad..." May glanced at her brother.
"Sorry I didn't tell you, Max. I didn't want you to worry." She sighed as she looked at the ground. Max paused before pulling her into a hug. The duo held for a moment before Max spoke.
"At least you're ok..." She smiled as they pulled away.
"I have even more good news for you. But you can either get it from me or your teammates." Max paused for a moment as his mind clicked.
"Wait..." She smiled at Drew, who nodded as they slipped out. Max seemed to freeze up before noticing their disappearance. "H-hey!" He ran after them as the parents giggled.
"Have fun kids!" May smiled as the trio took off towards Alola, with now a common goal. There was a bond to reform.
