10) Brothers have the Worst Timing

I flipped the fifth hook once again to reach home. After the dizziness subsided, I found myself back in Dora's room. The first thing I did upon returning was to remove the rope I had tied to the balcony. Thanks to Callan, I don't have to use it again. Then I opened the delivery that Ginny had bought when I wasn't there. It was some new books that Dora had requested a few days back. I organised the books on her shelf and then subtly disturbed some things in the room so that it looked like it was in use the whole day.

Arranging the book in front of me that Dora was supposed to read the whole day, I flipped back the last hook on my belt. For a few minutes, Dora sat in that position when the door burst opened and Ginny came in to call for dinner. At dinner, her mother did comment on Dora's dishevelled appearance but Dora just waved it off saying that she was too busy the whole day to think about it.

She again read a book after dinner and slept at her normal time. That night for the first time while going to bed I was happy with my day. I had found many new things, made a new friend and was actually going to look forward to another day. Tomorrow, Dora might have another normal day but it will be unique to me. Smiling to myself, I jumped to revisit older memories while Dora slept.

The next two days were pretty much the same. Dora was still reading wholeheartedly. She did spend some time with her siblings which was the most fun, I had the whole day. All five of them would tease each other amazingly. As much as I noticed, Edward and Nicholas were closer and so were Beatrice and Lionel. Dora had the same relationship with each of them but she didn't seem to mind. She was happy in her own world.

I made a new hobby. Whenever Dora would start to read a book, I would take control and remove my belt. Callan had taught me how to open the belt. I would follow him to look at the stone. The first time I did that, it kind of triggered a memory. I felt like I had seen the stone somewhere else. These days I would open the belt and gaze at the stone, trying to remember where I had seen it.

Three days passed in a spin and today I was once again studying the belt when I heard footsteps outside my room. Hurriedly, I placed the belt back and flipped the hook just in time for Ginny to enter. "You have a visitor," she announced opening the door.

Dora looked up from her book to see Lawrence entering the room. Her heartbeat suddenly quickened and I could feel her fretting over her appearance. Whenever Lawrence was near, Dora always became an emotional mess, which leads to the dilution of our brain barriers. I could feel her thoughts and I had to work hard to prevent mine from meeting her. Larry came towards her and bent in front of the sofa taking her hand and placing a gentle kiss on it. "Hey, beautiful" he murmured only loud enough for her to hear.

"Hey," she murmured back.

"No compliments for me?" he asked raising an eyebrow. Ginny giggled from behind which earned her a glare from Dora. She immediately apologised and left the room, closing the door behind her. Larry sat beside Dora, taking her hand in his and looking at her. "I was thinking about you. How are you?"

"Great. I missed you," she said slowly rubbing the back of his hand.

"Me too. I was busy. I apologise for not coming earlier." Instead of replying Dora simply leaned on his shoulder. No words were ever needed with Lawrence. The two of them could simply feel each other. She missed his touches. After cancelling their wedding, a rift had been created between them. But today everything was perfect again. The last meeting in the garden bought her world back.

"What are you thinking about?" Lawrence asked to bring her back to reality.

"About how I was a fool to think that you will ever leave me. I pushed you back and now I realise how much I missed you. You being here with me means a lot to me, Larry."

"I love you Dora and I will never leave you," he said with nothing but truth and love in his voice. Their eyes met and Dora could see herself deep in them. Her heart swelled as she realised how much he means those words. They completed each other and no one could ever separate them.

"You know, I should get you an engagement ring for you since you removed the last one," he said looking at their perfectly joined hands.

Dora looked at him in shock. "But we cannot marry Lawrence."

Lawrence looked at her confusingly. "Why not?"

"If I die then..." Dora tried to explain something but Lawrence put his finger on her lips, quietening her

"Do not think about dying sweetheart. First of all, we do not know when it will happen. It might be true that you have a shorter life span than many of us but you cannot live the rest of your life in an unknown danger. Besides what if I die tomorrow in an accident then..."

"Hey, do not say that." Dora interrupted this time.

"Then you do not either," he said immediately. "And even if it were to be true, what do you expect me to do? Stop loving you and marry someone else?" he continued.

Dora's immediate response was to say yes but then even if she thought about it, it was too painful. She loved Lawrence and she couldn't bear to see him with anyone else ever. She might be selfish but it was the truth.

"Hey," he said placing a finger under her chin and turning her face towards him. She however continued to look at her lap. "Look at me," he ordered softly.

Dora willed her eyes to meet his once again. "I promised you I will not leave you and I intend to keep it. I love you too much to leave you so easily, so stop with the excuses already," he said his voice becoming playfully stern till the end.

Dora laughed loudly at his expression. He really loved her and she actually needs to stop with these pathetic reasons. Both of them wanted each other and she was just being stupid. "Alright. I will accept the ring." she said after her laugh ended "But only if it matches the necklace, you gave me last week." she added playfully winking at him.

Lawrence slightly tilted his head blinking and looking unbelievingly at her. Dora again busted into laughter seeing his expression. Her happiness quickly became contagious. Lawrence also broke into a smile and I became really happy along with her. Amidst laughing she gently leaned on his shoulder. Lawrence looked down at her, his eyes full of passion.

Dora's laughter immediately died as she realised their position. Their faces were too close to each other. Larry's smile also died as his gaze shifted from her eyes to her lips. Slowly he started leaning toward her. Dora's insides churned as she became nervous. I on the other hand became really excited. It isn't every day my chosen life story becomes romantic. Both of them were leaning in as if under a spell when suddenly a knock echoed from the door.

Both of them immediately straightened. Dora cursed the intruder with all her senses and I couldn't help but agree. "Come in," Lawrence called aloud as Edward entered.

He looked at both of them. "Sorry if I interrupted something," he said with a smirk, looking at their joined hands.

"You should be," Dora mumbled under her breath. However, Lawrence heard it. He chuckled at her, making Dora blush. Edward cleared his throat making their head snap towards him.

"Actually, mother wanted to ask Lawrence if he would be staying for dinner." When Larry nodded his head, he continued "Great, then see you downstairs in ten minutes." saying this, Edward practically ran out of the room.

Seeing him, the two of them giggled. They looked at each other but the earlier spell had been broken. They simply talked with each other about anything and everything for the next few minutes after which they went for dinner. Edward was eyeing both of them suspiciously the whole time but Dora ignored him.

After dinner, Dora went back to her room to find Ginny cleaning it. Instead of going back, the girls decided to spend some quality time together. Dora told Ginny about Larry's plan to propose again soon. At this Ginny started teasing her. However, Dora was deep inside her happy thoughts of Lawence caring about her. Soon Ginny left and Dora went back to sleep.

The next few days were once again gone in a flash. I did some more research on the stone and now I was sure that I have a lead. While Dora eagerly waited for Larry, I was excited to meet Callan. And out of both, I got my wish fulfilled first.

Curse Edward and his not-so-good timing. If you feel the same, click that jumping star and I will be sure to lock Edward in his room at the time of their next spell.

Are you guys eager to meet Callan or do want to see more of Lawrence?
