Chapter One:

Alpha Nicholas' POV

Flashback:

"Mommy mommy!" I cried.

"Yes darling, it's time to sleep okay? Night night." Mom replies as she slowly walks towards the door

"Please tell me about the story of mates! PLEASE, MOMMY, PLEASE!"

My mom smiles as she walks towards me

"Okay fine, this is the last one okay?"

I nod my head, satisfied with my bargaining skills

"Okay... Once upon a time... The Sun god fell in love with the Moon goddess, but they could not ever get together because the Sky and the Stars would forbid them to. But once in every while, the Sky and the Stars would have business meetings and during these times, the Sun and the Moon would meet each other, creating an eclipse. During those eclipses, both the Sun and the Moon would appear to be more powerful, because of their love, they release such huge amounts of energy they can make or break anything. The first pair of werewolves were made during an eclipse.

The Moon goddess and the Sun god wanted to bestow this type of love, this strong urge, this pull and the type of feeling on the werewolves so they would be able to feel the happiness and joy when they would meet, touch and spend an eternity with their mate. Now during those eclipses, mate bonds would be released or they could be broken. The mate bonds are so strong, no werewolf can resist them unless you reject your given mate.

My dear son, never reject your mate. Your mate is the most special gift you will ever receive and you must love them no matter what. You must do anything to get your mate back if she ever rejects you, because, under most normal circumstances, the moon goddess only provides you with one mate, however if you're like Uncle Bob, whose mate had cheated on him even though they had marked and mated one another, the moon goddess will try and provide ways to make your life better. Anyways, once the first werewolves had a mate bond, they carried down the gene to the other werewolves and every werewolf has the mate gene in them.

During every eclipse, during this special day, mate bonds will be made, every unmated werewolf of age will be mated or mate bonds are allowed to be broken. We celebrate this special day in order to thank the Moon goddess and the Sun god for bestowing their great power of love on all of us werewolves. Without their special powers, I wouldn't be here and you would definitely not be here."

Suddenly a scream pierced my ears. A gunshot was heard.

My mother told me to hide behind the secret door in my bookshelf. I stupidly asked her "Will you be coming with me?" My mother thought for a second and she quickly nodded. We hurried to the door, carefully not making any sound as footsteps were heard coming nearer and nearer towards my bedroom in the pack house. My mom shifted into her wolf, shredding off her clothes, turning into a magnificent gray wolf with amber eyes. I shifted to the corner of our hiding spot.

My mom told me to stay quiet and try to link in with the pack. I concentrated really hard and drops of sweat were sliding down my cheeks as I was trying to mind link with the pack. I finally got in and all I could hear was shouting and screaming. I winced and tried to shut the mind link off but the sounds just grew louder and louder. I heard my mother's wolf's soft but firm voice, "hush child... shhh, don't try to fight the sounds, just let them be... Everything is going to be alright"

I suddenly heard my father's ragged voice "Son? Wife? Are you guys alright? Are you in the DALAS (Are you in the hiding spot [A codeword where my father, my mother and I had made so that our enemies wouldn't know where we were if they ever broke into the pack's mind link]) Both my mother and I said "Yes." My father replied "Good, stay SALAD (where you are until I give you the signal) and do not PARACHUTE (Move or go anywhere). Some rogues broke in and they stole some sofas from our store-room, the scream was from one of the rogues when they were found. A gun was accidentally fired but luckily nobody was hurt."

My father soon cut off our pack link, my mother and I, stood in the cold shelter, shuddering, shivering as I was only wearing my pants and a thin t-shirt. My mother rubbed her warm fur against my cold bare skin, her warmth passing towards me. She engulfed me and wrapped her warm and furry body against me, protecting me, loving me and giving me the warmth and support I needed.

My mother then signaled me to tune into the pack link again. This time, linking into the pack link wasn't as hard as the first time, but it still took a lot of my energy as I concentrated, trying to mind link into the pack link. My father, the Alpha said "Okay Nicholas MONKEY (this was the signal for my mom and me to slowly crawl out of our hiding spot)" We slowly reached the entrance and we were about to exit.

Suddenly... My father shouted and said "NICHOLAS, GET OUT OF HERE, THIS IS AN AMBUSH! NICHOLAS PROTECT YOUR MOTHER! EMMA, SHIFT INTO YOUR WOLF AND PROTECT NICHOLAS! GET OUT OF DALAS, I REPEAT, GET THE HELL OUT OF DALAS!" My father's screams were bursting in my ears. My mom, nudging me to go on her back. I struggled to straddle onto her big frame.

Once I got onto her back I looped her long fur onto my fingers, creating a sort of rein to hold on while my mom scouted and sniffed the air for rogue scent and my father's scent. She ran towards the window, leaping out and landing softly. She told me to relax, as she ran towards the overwhelming Alpha scent from my father. While my mother was running towards my father's scent trail, I noticed a rogue. THE rogue. Her pupils dilated and I saw a lovely shimmer of brown to blue. I got off my mom's back and I was slowly walking towards HER. MY MATE. My bones were cracking. I was slowly shifting. I tried not to shift and the pain was unbearable. My mother noticed me shifting and she looked at the girl. She growled and snarled at my mate. I whispered weakly to tell her not to snarl at my mate. My mate, as she was trying to control her wolf, shifted as well. Screams of her angelic voice pierced my ears. My wolf and I, trying to help our mate to shift as her bones were breaking, cracking. She changed into a magnificent sandy-furred wolf, her lovely blue eyes contrasting to my dark green eyes. Her soft and floral scented fur, my gray and dark fur. Her eyes then changed back to brown.

What I saw was not lust or desire, it was full of hatred and anger. She snarled, showing her sharp canines. I whimpered, slowly nudging her. Her eyes then changed back to blue as she nudged her snout towards my shoulder. Tingles went down my spine. The mate bonds were uncontrollable. I yipped happily and tried to mark her, but then her eyes changed to brown again and she growled menacingly. Her eyes kept flicking back and forth from dazzling blue to dark brown.

Just as I was about to make my move, her eyes switched back to brown. She howled loudly and turned around, dashing away.

My wolf was saddened by our mate's rejection... He whimpered and urged me to follow her, but I knew I couldn't.
