Chains Part 1

There I stood,

Deathly pale,

The band wrapped around my finger,

Burning through my skin.

Numb,

Every cell of my being felt numb,

the once light bags under my eyes,

now appeared to be dark patches.

But I carried on through the crowd,

Dragging my feet slowly,

A heavy weight on my chest and shoulders,

Slowing me down.

I looked around me,

The swarm of bodies moving alongside me,

All looking as though they were my reincarnations,

My replicas; look-alikes, twins.

But as I dragged on,

Going everywhere and nowhere all at once,

There was no scenery,

Just a blacked-out blur.

I slowly realized,

As I looked down at myself,

My eyes lingering on my wrists,

Bony and lifeless.

Allowing my sight to focus,

I could faintly see,

The phantom chains,

As they held me.
