#RealityCheck

It was august and the leaves were falling slowly, but surely. It was calm and nice like the typical autumn weather of perfect moderation.

I stared at the screen as the female lead walked through the pathway created by a frame of perfectly aligned trees, as if they were carefully curated just to create the picture perfect moment that was now playing out,

As the male lead, with a unwavering intent of confessing his feelings appeared behind his love interest who was now leaning against one of
the trees and seemingly staring into the abyss contemplating her supposed unrequited love...

or thinking about the mouth watering lunch that would soon be at her fingertips once she finished filming this scene.

Either way, I watched in awe and slight envy as the plot unfolded, which had been scripted purposefully to cater to all the hopeless romantics and ardent kdrama fans who want anything but reality.

Because surely where and when would this ever happen in real life. Because if this is real , oh boy am I in the wrong place and the wrong time.

Or the more plausible truth,
This isn't real and this doesn't happen to me because I am a real person.

So I get it. I get the hype. Even though most of the kdramas are the cliché-est things ever, you keep watching them.

Why?

Because they provide you with that momentary escape from reality that you desperately seek, as you lie on your couch scrunched up into the most unhealthy yet comfortable position ever, muching on some cheetos and swooning over a 31 year old man playing a highschooler or an unbelievably attractive CEO that does nothing except for show up to random meetings every now and then.

You live vicariously through them , partaking in every emotion portrayed;

happiness,

sorrow,

betrayal,

fear...

...love.

I slowly closed my laptop screen shut and shifted my gaze to the sight outside my window. There wasn't a single tree in sight let alone an autumn breeze and an aesthetic leaf shedding.

Just boring old buildings with cracked windows and around a 100 safety hazards.

I sighed as I was once again pulled back into reality.

Jeez. What a rude awakening.
