Chapter 1
Eleanor Navarro, sat with her back lent up against a post, which currently helped support the entire structure of small wooden shelter she had been given by the military to sleep in. Eleanor had joined Mistic Anino's army when she was just fourteen years old and hadn't looked back since. She was born to be serve her planet; well that is what her father had said to her when she was young. She had still believed him when she turned fourteen and signed up. When he had found out he was so proud of her and everything Eleanor did in the army she did it for him.
She was sat with her notebook in her lap; she had been drawing in it for the past hour waiting for the sunrise. When the sun did rise it bathed her, and the rest of the compound in a hue of orange and red light. It was really quite beautiful. However,to see it you would have to wake up exceptionally early. Eleanor did every morning, she would wake up at two every morning and sit and wait for the sun to rise over the horizon; the reason she waited was because it simply reminded her of home.
Eleanor was a Drei Occhi, meaning she had three eyes and came from the forest of Ibarra. Ibarra had been the home of the indigenous group Drei Occhi since Mistic Anino had been formed, making them the original inhabitants of the planet. The people tend to live high in the treetops in what you would call tree houses. As mentioned before this particular race of people have three eyes and are known by this particular body trait. It is said in that a Drei Occhis' eyes are able to see into the future. Unfortunately Eleanor had not yet come across a Drei with such power, so to her it was just another fairy tale children are told before they go to bed.
''Well someone seems to be deep in thought,'' The voice startled Eleanor causing her to leap up in fright. She calmed when she noticed who it was.
''Don't you dare sneak up on me like that again Salvador,'' Said man just chuckled.
He had a cigarette in his mouth, which was probably stolen from one of the other soldier's rooms. His short brown hair was hidden underneath an army regulation hat that you had to wear if you were off duty and because he was in a vest Eleanor could clearly see the birthmark on his left shoulder.
However, Eleanor didn't care about any of those things because something else had caught her attention concerning Salvador; it was that he was holding something behind his back. She tried to reach behind, but unfortunately he noticed what she was doing and took a step back moving away from her.
''You won't want to look at that El,'' Eleanor scrunched her nose at what Salvador had just called her, she hated it when he called her El, or if anyone did for that matter.
''And why won't I want to?'' She asked coughing as he purposely blew smoke in her face.
''Because it's not good news El and well it's to do with you,'' Eleanor didn't know what to think, so many thoughts were going around her head at once. Were her parents in danger? Was she herself in danger?
Salvador noticed the confused and slightly scared look on her face. He wanted desperately to say it was ok that neither she nor her family was in danger, but he'd be lying if he did. Salvador was a solider like Eleanor, the only difference between them was that he was born from and long history of warriors and he didn't have three eyes. He originated from the Batalanto a newer race of people who had only been around two thousand years, whereas the Drei Occhi had been around for almost two billion.
The Batalanto had a newer more modern approach to living, instead of living in forests and in amongst the tress. They lived in houses which lined the mountains towards the east of the planet. Batalanto people were very peaceful and friendly to outsiders; however, if you had defiled them in any way you won't live long enough to die happily from old age, (many people believe that this trait is why the Batalanto make such good warriors and solider). Fortunately, this has only ever happened once in their history and wasn't likely to happen again anytime soon.
Eleanor huffed as Salvador continued to not tell her what was going on. She felt as if she had a right to know, considering it involved her in some way.
''Come on Sal you have to tell me,'' She said smiling, she had used the nickname she knew he hated. 'If he has a nickname for me that I don't like might as well give him one too' she thought.
When he didn't reply she stepped closer to him and with a wave of her hand a black Shadow crept out from her little hut and grabbed the thing the Salvador had been hiding behind his back.
Since his eyes had been on her the whole tine, Salvador instantly became confused at what had just happened, but when he noticed Eleanor's smirking face he realized what had just happened. He felt stupid, how could he have forgotten the Eleanor had inherited the ability to control Shadows and dark matter from her mother.
Salvador watched as the Shadow dropped the object, which turned out to be that day's newspaper, into Eleanor's outstretched hand. She looked at it quizzically wondering why on earth he had tried to hide a newspaper from her. It all became so very clear when folded it over to look at the front page. I big clear letters the headline read:
Charlene Navarro escapes from the most secured prison on the planet.
Eleanor's heart sunk, her sister had escaped and she knew she was the first one on the hit list. Charlene wasn't going to stop until she had her little sister taken care of.
''Told you, you wouldn't want to look at that,'' Salvador said taking the newspaper out of Eleanor's shaking hands.
''I was going to find out eventually,'' She muttered turning away from the solider to go inside her hut, slamming the door behind her.
Salvador walked off back to his own wooden hut, knowing that Eleanor needed some time alone.
